An idol is anyone or anything we choose to worship - dedicating our time, effort and other resources like our hearts. When we fall attached to an idol, our first thoughts include,Ā āThis could work well for me!āĀ āFinally, something good!ā But as time goes, resources spent, and the heart still empty, we painfully realize idols were never there to our advantage.
As the Word of God shares in Psalms 106 (and many more passages in Scripture), idols are a snare to us. Any idol that we choose entangles us to a deeper pit of loss, confusion, and pain - products of our sins.
Satan prepares all sorts of idols to trap us. Back then, in the middle of slavery and wars, Satan uses different cultures and race to distract Godās people from obeying Him to disregard His protection. People fell to believe theĀ āfaithā of others and served the idols that only brought misery. In 2019, with a lot of beliefs already out there, Satan still uses idols only this time he has the internet, activism, and ignorance to get us trapped with a number of idols. We become more involved inĀ Ā āgood causesā but we are eventually angry, aggressive, self-centered, and walking in ways the LORD Jesus didnāt and wouldnāt take. Trapped. Tired. What kind of idols are distracting you today? Is it a person - yourself or someone else? Is it a cause or movement? Is it an object?
Beloved, what takes much of our thoughts, emotions, and actions declare our affection for someone or something. I hope and pray that we worship God the way He deserves: with our thoughts, emotions, and actions! After all - after every bit of history then and now - it is God who loves us best. He is faithful even when we are not. Turn to the LORD Jesus.
