My beloved Lu Ten, I will see you again.
Just realizing that Uncle Iroh in ‘Tales of Ba Sing Se’ is at the same tree he has flashbacks to in ‘Bitter Work’.

Zuko kneels for forgiveness three times. Ozai sucks, and tbh Katara responds in an appropriate manner. But that makes Uncle Iroh’s acceptance all the more poignant.
“In the second book, I wanted to explicitly link [dust stepping] to Suki’s head-running technique that she does in the Boiling Rock during the prisoner riot by saying that [it] evolved into...the equivalent for non benders. And I was going to have a scene where Kyoshi’s like “OK well I’m not going to use earth. I’m going to actually just try to run across this crowd of people’s heads because if I can do it with earth I should be able to do it for this." And it was going to humorously end because she’s obviously very big and it just doesn’t work because everybody keeps collapsing under her weight. So she’s like OK that was a failure.
“That entire scene got cut in drafting, so there was not context to actually introduce that. So that’ll never hit a page, but if anyone cares about creator head-canon. Yes, Suki’s head running technique in the Boiling Rock is an evolution of Kyoshi’s running on earth columns.”
F.C. Yee on the relation between dust stepping and Suki’s head-running technique
“Suki possessed considerable physical strength, able to swim easily in full Kyoshi Warrior armor and toss aside a full grown man with ease. She also seemed to have an affinity for operating vehicles, piloting a Fire Nation airship and a tundra tank without any prior experience.”

The fact that Suki didn’t even win this fight with Azula. She really could’ve used Appa’s help, but instead she sacrificed herself so Appa wouldn’t be in danger.
Suki deserves so much credit for swimming in what seems to be incredibly heavy gear. Girl is a strong, strong fish.
Miyuki is an insurrectionist. Her story must be told.
sokka’s character development is underrated
My headcanon is that Katara and Zuko are really close friends. They both have a strong sense of purpose and drive that makes them a productive team and dangerous duo. If anything, they really understand where they’re coming from.
this is one of katara’s most standout scenes - “you and I both know you've struggled with doing the right thing in the past.”
have y’all ever noticed that Iroh uses an earthbending move when he catches General Zhou trying to smack Zuko after the fight ends (second episode of book 1)? he provides a firm and immovable end to a fight in which both zuko and zhou were driven by anger and passion. in contrast to these two reckless firebenders, iroh waits and listens for the right time to defend zuko; he counterattacks zhou by throwing his off his balance. truly a wise man who always knew the right style and stance to use.
tell me these don’t have the same energy
Ty Lee, Azula and Mai visualized
this is perfect

Cause art theft is not cool. They also made the legend of korra team!
can we talk about everything aang has done against toxic masculinity? dude was crying, wearing flower crowns, talking about feelings, and tryna be friends with hormonal zuko and still saving the world
It’s small animation details like this in ATLA that make it such a top tier show. Like Toph randomly destroyed a house and we see the real life consequences of that. They didn’t have to animate that, but they did.
And it’s even in moments like this we’re reminded that these are powerful kids making an impact on the world; whether they’re saving it or costing Ba Sing Se thousands in building repairs lol
Ty Lee is pouring Azula - and only Azula - a cup of tea. It’s moments like this that reveal Azula’s friendship with these two girls is based on power and fear.
There are no other tea cups for the Ty Lee and Mai. There is no tea for Ty Lee and Mai. There are no Earth Kingdom outfits for Ty Lee and Mai; they have to be disguised in Kyoshi warrior uniform.
And not to mention, they only have nice things to say to Azula after her recent speech. On my first watch, I thought they were all just friends, but these details are so revealing.
