Honestly, the fact that F. C. Yee looked at the avatar whose in best-known show took a peninsula and turned it into an island, and said, "I think you have dysphoria, social anxiety, freckles, you're a criminal, the biggest simp ever, and also, a diplomatic disaster" was so iconic.
A Year in (Book) Review: My 2024 Reading Journey 📚
#6 - The Legacy of Yangchen by F. C. Yee
Fantasy / Chronicles of the Avatar #4 / 336 pages / published 2023 / Finished Jan. 11
One Sentence Review: Even better than its predecessor, Legacy enriches the world and history of the Avatar world even further, ties up all loose ends, mends the rifts that were so distressing to me in the first book, expands the political complexities of the world, and gives all characters a satisfying ending.

"There was only one spoon."
The Avatar Yang Chen book just keeps getting better and better.
I've recently started reading The Rise of Kyoshi, by FC Yee, and while I'm not finished yet, I'm absolutely loving it! Of course, part of that is that Kyoshi is a great character, but what really stands out to me is the bending in the book. Yee conveys the same awe-inspiring magic, grace, power, and coolness that the various bending forms have in the animated shows with nothing but words!
Everything in the book is so rich and compelling. I feel transported to the world, and I imagine that I would love this book even if I hadn't seen Avatar, just because it's a good book. I'll definitely be starting the second one as soon as I finish the first.
If she couldn’t be a creature of grace, then she’d be a battering ram.
Avatar: The Rise of Kyoshi (The Kyoshi Novels, #1) by F.C. Yee
“Master Jianzhu, I apologize for making a counterargument,” Hui said. “But as you know, it’s my duty to Master Beifong to make sure both sides are considered in any important decision.”
“Both sides” was a rhetorical weapon used by hypocrites and the ignorant.
