More detail on this as I finish up with Sokka's Interlude: Aang is so tired. All of these kids are, of course, but man he is so tired. This is a combination of the war ending and the Avatar State stuff he has going on. I fear this is not something that just a simple nap is going to be able to fix.

Anyway! These are all so cute! I love the use of color on the first one, it really makes Ghost feel extra isolated even with so many people around them, which is exactly how they're feeling in TSVR! Also 'how to untrauma your kids' i see you pk and i fear it may be too late

Plus the Ghost and Dryya interaction and Ghost looking through a fence at the training nails? Someone give the child a knife, they're not even gonna use it (within view of you).

I just started reading fractures two days ago and finished what's out today so im new here. i kind of thought that it might have been abandoned since it hasn't been updated in a year but then i looked here and saw mentions of a rewrite? i figured you must have talk about what you're doing w/ fractures earlier but like i said im new here and was wondering if you could clear some things up, please. i also want to say that im a huge fan of your work and i made a account just to ask you about this

Okay, so for anyone who doesn't know, here is the deal with Fractures:

I have issues with the first work. This is primarily in the order of events, some characterization, and the writing style just in general. It comes from me not having a plan for the story when I started, not fully having a grasp on the characters, and being 14 when I began writing it. Things have changed.

Now, I am currently in the process of rewriting all of the Prologue/Book 1 of Fractures. The first chapter is the rewritten version, already published, with the original first one still being accessible to read in the Fractures Archive work under the series on Ao3. Because going forward in Book 2, I plan to use the rewritten characterization, I do not want to continue with Book 2 until the rewrite is done.

However, it looks as though I am not really doing anything. This is not true, I promise. The problem is that the rewrite is being published over the original work rather than as a separate work altogether, with the original chapters being ported over into the Archive. This is because the original work is always going to have more kudos, hits, comments, etc., and I want it to therefore be the best (rewritten) version of itself. As a result, I cannot publish any of the rewrite until it is fully completed, because events are being moved around (i.e. Tora and Azami are introduced in Chapter 2 rather than Chapter 20-something). It would be too confusing.

So instead, I have to finish rewriting all 285k words worth of fic before I can publish any more of the rewrite. I have so much written at this point, but it doesn't look like it to you guys because I can't publish it yet.

But I swear, I am working on it, and once it is done, I will also feel comfortable continuing on with Book 2, after offering up over 250k-worth of new stuff to read anyway lol. I hope that'll make up for the 'hiatus.'

"Zuko is obviously very complicated and I love him for it. His dad really did not give a shit about him and having to see him come to terms with that sorta-forced is very cool. We see him go from his one focus catching the Avatar so he can be returned to the glory he had before as the Fire Lord's son to now not being able to do that because he basically just has to survive.

"Now he is forced to come to terms with never returning to his dad and being accepted because he's a fugitive and lowkey a failure in his dad's eyes.

"Also, even more than that, he has to come to terms with all of the things that his family and country have been doing to the world. He keeps meeting all of these people that were hurt by the war, and it's like maybe the glory isn't as much there as he thought before. It's really interesting and a super cool conflict to see, and I hope that he is able to figure stuff out by the end of this season."

"Honestly the journey to Ba Sing Se like post-Zuko Alone has been banger after banger. Or I guess was, cause we are there now. But yeah, basically Zuko Alone and onward is probably my favorite but particularly the journey to Ba Sing Se.

"But that might be recency bias.

"Also I really mean before the last episode that we watched [Appa's Lost Days] because that was too upsetting. I'm still in recovery."

I don't have exact up-to-date answers, but I do have her ranking of the characters at the end of season 1 with her explanation for each! She was ranking Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Iroh (tho she exclusively calls him Uncle Iroh).

4th and 5th place: Uncle Iroh and Sokka

"Like I feel like they will do more with Uncle Iroh and Sokka as the seasons progress for sure, it's just that they haven't done much yet (comparatively)"

3rd place: Katara

"Katara is obviously great, but her struggles with not being as good as Aang were kinda silly. Girl, he's the Avatar and already a master airbender, it's ok. However like just as a character she is very strong and understandable."

2nd place: Zuko

"Zuko is such a crazy character like being cast out and his life depending on catching the Avatar is so good. It also foils really well with Aang since both of them have such high expectations to live up to. Like on one hand I don't want him succeeding and capturing the Avatar but on the other hand this kid really needs like one win. Also the whole being burned by his father is crazy and like makes me want to know more."

1st place: Aang

"Aang is just so cool, cause it's like how are you gonna put all this pressure on this little kid. Also, no one can really understand him. He's like the last surviving member of an entire race and culture and history that was destroyed. Like Aang is very alone and I think the show portrays that very well. He's also such a fun character to watch and see on my screen."

I have asked for her updated rankings with where we are now, and now including Azula and Toph. However, it is late and she works early, so this will likely come later. I am looking forward to seeing where she is at with Zuko especially now.

Also, 'Appa's Lost Days' made her cry her eyes out. The only time I've ever seen her cry harder was the finale for The Good Place (iykyk). Whenever they did a quick flash back to when he was a baby, she would let out this heaving sob (understandable). When he went to the Eastern Air Temple she literally said through tears, "He didn't know where to go so he just went somewhere he felt safe." Oof that episode is a hard one

hey out of curiosity is your burst of motivation for the fractures rewrite directly correlated with the new ATLA movie releasing next week ? if you watched it already due to the unfortunate leak please no spoilers

That's actually a happy accident! No, the burst of motivation actually comes from me finding out a couple of weeks ago that one of my best friends has never seen any of ATLA. We hang out every week and make our way through shows that she hasn't seen (just finished Steven Universe and planned on doing Gravity Falls next until I learned about this) but I had just presumed she'd seen ATLA, because "well of course she has, she's my friend"

I learned that she hadn't however (literally didn't even know anything about it either. I'm still shocked) and was over-the-moon at the prospect of being able to introduce this show to her. When we last hung out yesterday, we ended after watching 'Appa's Lost Days' (which oof there is a reason I don't rewatch that episode often).

It'll be at least another two weeks for us to finish ATLA, and then we'll also be watching LoK, as well as the movie (which I am going to save because I did not watch the leaks and I want to experience a new ATLA thing with her 'cause this is a kinda rare chance). But yeah, it was that that gave me the actual motivation lol. Not that I'm complaining.

I mean, in my opinion the rewrite is going to be drastically better lol. Especially the earlier stuff in Fractures is not indicative of my writing quality now because it's literally like almost seven years old.

On the other hand, I don't know how long the Fractures Rewrite is going to take. I mean, I'm really hitting a stride with it at the moment, but who knows if that will last you know? The original version of Fractures will still be readable once the Rewrite is done though.

Fully your choice lol. In an ideal world, I continue on my pace of about a chapter worth of work per day and it's done within a month. I have long thought this world to not be ideal, though.
