Don’t you just want to dance?
In a french mood, found this song...delightful
Obviously the Tyrells know how to dance.
Not sure why I suddenly had the urge to watch this movie again but I was well reminded after finishing why it's one of my favorite movies. It's one of those movies where you wouldn't necessary jump to say it's your favorite (not that you're embarrassed or anything, just that you don't remember) but it's definitely a goodie and must watch. An English film that stars James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Rebecca Hall. Go read the synopsis if you wish but I think you should just watch it!!! And if the cast isn't enough to convince you, just take a look at James' smooth moves. (This part always cracks me up for some reason)
My Eurotrip Pt 1
Wow, can I just say I'm so proud of myself for finally doing this.
Okay back to the post. I went on a trip for a little over 2 weeks to London, Amsterdam and Paris and just got back 2 days ago. Taking a trip abroad has been on my agenda for at least 2 years since I graduated and I kept pushing it off first for monetary reasons and then because I couldn't find anyone who wanted to, had the time or money to go. But a few months ago after realizing that the only person holding back was myself, I decided to take the plunge. After watching a bunch of encouraging videos on YouTube about solo traveling, I told my parents and my boss and bought a round-trip ticket to London.
I knew I wanted to pick London as my first experience because of the language factor. It's probably the most similar to the states compared to the other European countries. Paris of course was going to be the main part of my trip, don't even get my started on how long I've been dreaming to go. And then came the hard decision of choosing what other countries I wanted to visit. It was between Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Czech Republic. After much deliberation, I decided I needed to visit the Netherlands...working for a Dutch company and all you know. After that, I thought it was pretty logical to add Belgium in the mix since it would be on my way to Paris. And BOOM, I had my "hypothetical" itinerary set.
So the fun part was over and next came the boring part of finding the best travel methods and places to stay. I focused on finding places to stay first and immediately I decided to try out Couchsurfing because hey, who doesn't want free accommodations? This process took a lot of my time, sending out requests to potential hosts and anxiously waiting to hear back from them. I would say 90% of the time I was rejected...not really sure if they were actually busy or just didn't want to host me since I had no experience and references yet. I managed to find 2 hosts, 1 in London and 1 in Paris for a few days. The remaining days of the trip, I decided to book some places on Airbnb. When I got to actually booking transportation, I really looked into traveling by plane because after reading up and comparing prices, it was actually very cheap to travel by plane between different European countries, not to mention the time it would save. At this point, I figured that having 4 countries to visit would not be to my benefit...that is paying for one extra "trip" and cramming things in, so I decided to take Belgium out of the mix.
My final trip came out like this:
Fly to London from NY.
Fly to Amsterdam from London.
Take the train from Amsterdam to Paris.
Fly to London from Paris.
Fly to NY from London.
Next came the semi fun part, researching and choosing what to visit during my trip! I read a bunch of articles, blogs and watched a bunch of videos and compiled a list of places I wanted to visit while I was in each country. Then I used Google Maps to plot out each place so I could have a visual of where each sight was at. I decided it would be best to group the sights per day based on their locations. This part probably took me the longest time but trust me, when you get there, it's wonderful to wander around but it's still nice to have a sense of direction. And really...DO YOUR RESEARCH! You should really get a sense of the place you are going and learn a bit about the culture so you don't seem like a complete ignoramus.
The final bit of preparing was buying stuff for my travel: luggage, travel accessories, camera, clothes, etc. Let me just say, I spent a shit ton on this and I will go on to say that half of it was probably not necessary but I got a little carried away.
Then came the day for my travel. My dad drove me to the airport, I had already said goodbye to my mom and sister (since they were away/working). I hugged goodbye to my dad and slung my over-packed backpack and little carry-on luggage and strolled my way into JFK. And an hour later, I was ready to board my 6 hr flight to London!
To be continued...
Love, Rosie
One of the things you tend to miss when you no longer watch shows on a physical TV is, you're really behind on ...news. In this case, I'm talking about movie trailers. So lately I was very bored so I decided to surf Youtube for trailers and binge watched a bunch. One that caught my eye was Love, Rosie. Yes I am a sucker for romantic comedies, what woman isn't. Deal with it! It's starring Lily Collins (dem eyebrows!) and Sam Claflin (sexy Finnick) as the two main characters named Rosie and Alex who are best friends and you guessed it, secretly in love with each other. Right up my alley.
First let me just go over the trailer. Lily Collins does a great English accent, I won't say I'm surprised since she is half English and was born in England but still, very rarely does an American actor not butcher the accent. The premise is pretty simple like I mentioned, a guy and a girl friend; is it possible to be just friends? It's a story that follows the two friends throughout their lives through all good and bad and how they're always there for each other even after Alex moves across the world to Boston. Oh did I mention, the story starts off in London (?). I question this because the book is actually set in Dublin but seeing has they have English accents, I'm guessing they moved the setting to London or somewhere in England. Another thing that drew me to the trailer was the music. Music is always a big part of getting me interested because if the music is good, I will keep listening to it and form an association with the movie which will make my brain like it more.
The 1975- Chocolate
Kodaline- High Hopes
Go listen while you read the rest now.
Now, onto the book. Be warned, there will be spoilers. I will write spoilers in the sections but just warning you now. Ready?
Okay moving onto the actual book. I didn't actually know it was based on a book until I read some comments on Youtube saying it that was and that people should read it first. Now people normally say this anyway for any book to movie adaptation but I wasn't feeling lazy and was in a mood for some mushy gushy read so I decided to pick it up. I finished the book in 3 days, could have finished faster but work man. The format of the book is written through letters, emails and chats. I found this very interesting and very enjoyable. I thought it was easy to follow and made it more realistic in a way.
In the book, Rosie and Alex have known each other since they were 5. They get into all types of shenanigans at school; invite, un-invite then invite each other to their birthday parties; complain over their teacher and classmates, skip school (I won't go into what happened that day but there's a pretty big revelation in the end- was that considered a spoiler?) and lots more! Things get complicated when Alex's dad gets a job offer to move to Boston. But, luckily, Rosie gets accepted to Boston University to study hotel management while Alex will be in Harvard. YAY! Reunited already? NOT! Rosie's plans get thwarted when she has sex with one of her annoying classmates, Brian and gets pregnant. It wasn't as simple as I explained this but something happens with Alex that led to this event so I think this was one of the first "close calls/missed opportunities" in this story, which is something that this book has a lot of.
While Alex is off at medical school, dating his "college sweetheart"; Rosie is still in Dublin, raising a daughter as a teenage mother. There are a lot of downs in her life and nothing seems to go right for her but the one constant in her life is still Alex. They continue communicating through mail, email, messages but it's still hard when everyone is moving on with their lives and you're just stuck. This goes on for a longgggg time, at times, too long. They were so close to getting together like a hundred times but something always gets in the way. Everytime I thought, this was it, they are finally going to admit they love each, I realized there was still half a book left to read. When I was 2/3 of the way done, I gave up and realized that they were probably only going to get together in the last pages (which, SPOILERS, I was right).
The story was bittersweet, yes it ended with them finally getting together but it only took till they were 50!!! Not as much time left together if you were to think, they could have gotten together if Alex had done something when Rosie kissed him when she visited him in college, or if Greg hadn't gotten that letter before Rosie, or if Brian hadn't shown up or if Bethany hadn't gotten pregnant, OR if Alex had just told Rosie about their first kiss (this is what I was referring to earlier when I said something happened when they skipped school that day). Yes, I'm aware I just word vomited all the spoilers but you see what I mean? So many close calls/missed opportunities. But that is the nature of the story and as much as I felt gutted about that, I was delighted with their separate journeys of life.
I am so excited to see the movie now but looking back at the trailer, I see that they've changed quite some stuff around so not sure how that will turn out. But I will still be seeing it, although I don't see a US release date yet so I might just have to stream it which sucks.
So as a conclusion? Read the book. Read the book. Read the book. I hope I haven't ruined it for you now but you were warned beforehand. Toodles!
So addicted to this song right now! Just makes you want to dance, exactly what Adele does in the movie.
Did I mention, this movie was great as well. I won't say too much but it's a much watch if you're not too skirmish about nudity or refuse to watch foreign movies. Beautifully directed, I loved the two lead actresses- amazing, it's no wonder they won the Palme d'Or. Definitely watch it when you have the time though, it's a three hour long film.
Favorite scene has to be the one at the end in the café. Completely heartbreaking. (╥﹏╥)
Yeah so two recommendations in one post, YEAH! Now go watch. Toodles.
Her voice makes me feel like I'm floating on clouds. Nice song to fall asleep to or as some nice Sunday morning music.
The Fault in our Stars Review and Stupid Girls
I've begun this trend lately where I've been going to movies on the premiere dates just cause it's warmer and lighter now...so I decided to go watch TFIOS today. What a big mistake!!! Now I don't mean the movie. The movie itself was great. It felt like I was reading the book really, there were happy moments and sad moments. But sometimes, I feel like when I'm reading, the words flow more freely to me and when I recognize a line the actors say from the book, sometimes I just get the feeling they are just reciting the line (which they technically are) it just doesn't feel like the actual character. I don't mean to say that Shailene and Ansel's acting was bad, but that's just my natural opinion of most book to movie translations.
I didn't actually cry when reading the book although I came close but I did in the movies. Not as hard as everyone was making it out to be but I did let a few tears fly...particularly when Hazel was reading her eulogy for Augustus and when she had that talk with her parents where her mom wasn't going to be a mom anymore.
And can I just say, Amsterdam is gorgeous! I totally want to visit it (more) now. Which is a totally different story about my plan to do a Eurotrip this Fall (hint hint, if anyone's interested in joining me) but yeah, beautiful! Boom clap totally got me into the mood when they landed. And the perfect ending song All of the Stars.
Ok, now back to the big mistake part. The big mistake was watching this movie on the premiere day where obviously, the largest demographic would be tween girls. I mean holy fuck, the whole ordeal was laughable until the point where it wasn't and I was just annoyed that I couldn't enjoy the movie that I paid to see. Throughout the whole film these stupid girls in the front of the theater just wouldn't shut up. It was like the awwww and the OMGs and the quoting of the lines out loud for EVERY SINGLE FUCKING THING! And towards the end of the movie, I think this guy just had it with them and just scream, "you better leave before the movie ends because someones going to beat the shit out of you." Everyone started clapping at that point and it was kind of hilarious because the girl actually ran out of the theater. LOL
I thought it was like a joke that she ran out and when she ran back like a few minutes later, I was like okay, definitely a joke. But then she ran back out again and this time, she came back with 2 security guards. I swear the whole theater was like WTF is she serious? There was like 5 minutes left in the movie and they asked the guy to leave. He came back like 2 minutes later. Not sure what went down but damn, serious shit. But like he did go a little overboard because even after the initial yelling he kept saying things like stupid dumb bitches, etc...mind you he was like a 40-50 yr old man. Of course after he kept saying shit other people started saying stfu and so on and then it really became childish with the "no you shut up" which went back and forth as least three times. Seriously?!? Ugh anyways, it totally killed the mood for me towards the end. I was just soooo annoyed but a bit entertained I suppose.
Anyway, let this be a lesson to all of you who actually want to watch a movie without any stupid tweens and angry old fucks, just go watch the movie a week later. And let me not forget to mention the part where there were girls in the bathroom who actually said, "wait, let me take a selfie." I was trying realllllll hard not to laugh. Please dear god, never let my child utter these words. That is all. Toodles!
"Simon." It was barely a whisper, but Simon propped himself up on his elbow and looked down at Isabelle. She turned onto her back and gazed up at him. Her eyes were very huge and dark, her cheeks flushed. His chest tightened with anxiety.
"Are you all right?" He said. "Are you feverish?"
