Hi! If you're from Twitter, welcome to the hellsite! I've managed to compile a fairly comprehensive guidebook on the in and outs of Tumblr and its etiquette written by myself and some long-time Tumblr veterans.
When I say "Tumblr veterans", I mean that we've been on this site in some capacity for around 10 years each now, if not more (I myself have been here on and off since around 2011). We're happy to see new people discover the unique nature of what is effectively our digital hometown.
That being said, this unique nature is chalked up to the way that Tumblr has been something of a haven from the corporate and influence-based culture that has seemingly enveloped the rest of the internet. While we're happy to welcome you here, we also wish you respect the fact that this has been a safe haven from corporatisation and influencer culture, and we ask that you help us keep it that way. You can find an explanation on the etiquette and taboos of Tumblr in the guide linked above.
For a summary guide, keep reading...
This place is great if you are an artist, or member of a fandom, or enjoy fanworks or fanart of all kinds, or all of the above. If you identify as any/all of the above, welcome! I do hope you enjoy your stay here.
We, however, are very protective of its "indie" feel and has strived to keep advertisers, "influencer culture", and capitalist interests away.
In a sense, Tumblr takes the well-worn advice of "be your authentic self" and turns it into a moral imperative that is expected of newcomers as well lest you'll be shunned; we don't want the relative safe haven nature of Tumblr, away from corporatisation and influencer culture, to be ruined. Hence, there are a lot of cultural mores, taboos, and expectations that are treated not as polite but as a moral responsibility to ensure the "sanctity" of Tumblr as a space away from said culture of advertisers and influencers.
In short:
Reblog stuff liberally. Don't just focus on posting your own stuff/freeloading, that's just being an arse. You'll also look like a bot. Don't look like a bot.
Don't try to be an influencer, and don't try to peddle. This isn't to say you can't promote your comms or store if you're an indie artist; just again don't be a freeloader or seek attention for its own sake. Help your fellow artists and community members out.
Seriously, reblog stuff, that's the crux of this site's interaction.
Understand the ways in which people comment including commenting in the tags, there's a whole section in the guide dedicated to this.
Don't engage in drama or dunking, leave that shit behind on Twitter, I don't want to see it here.
Absolutely do not engage with brand accounts, not even ironically or to dunk on them or whatever.
Tumblr is otherwise a very cosy and creative space that is at once expansive and rich but also nuanced, social, cooperative, friendly, and intimate. Follow the etiquette and help us protect this space from the onslaught of advertiser interests and infleuncer culture and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time on our happy little hellsite.
And, yes, please read the guide!

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
I am greatly entertained by the President Pro Tempore of Virginia’s state Senate, an elderly woman who constantly talks about her goal of countering GOP gerrymandering by rigging Virginia’s districts 10-1 in favor of the Democratic Party. She’s a rare breed for Democrats: completely ruthless, totally apathetic to criticism, only here to win. Here she is calling Sen. Tim Kaine a cuck for disagreeing
One of the effect of elementary watson being a woman on sherlock is that hes always making caveats about murder suspects like a man caved his skull in. Or a woman. women can also cave skulls in 👍 he set the building on fire. Or she. I would never imply women cant set building on fire
It really is interesting to me that when he needs or wants smth Maul can get along with a variety of people even if he is using them.
You wouldn't think it possible after the whole Lotho Minor and his early insanity/rage in TCW but he's suprisingly good at alliances when he needs them (Palpatine could never)
Everybody's excited about the possibility of a Maul vs Vader matchup and they are wrong to be so
The real fight is going to be Devon vs Vader
For one thing, both of them are "the new model" so to speak, the new apprentices on the scene, they both have something to prove to their masters and to themselves
But more importantly, Vader is symbolically and literally the thing that ruined Devon's life, he destroyed the Jedi, he betrayed and murdered them, this is all his fault
Which also makes for another brilliant foil for Devon with Reva
Vader destroyed everything both of them had, took away their futures
The difference being the Masters they found, Reva found Obi-Wan, who helped her escape the darkness and let go of her hate
And Devon found Maul, who is trying to drag her into darkness and get her to embrace hate
there’s something almost sinister about how Shadow Lord handles Maul… and I don’t mean in-universe. I mean what it does to us as the audience.
because tell me why I caught myself multiple times leaning forward like, "oh… this might actually work." "oh, i would like to see what happens," like I was considering it. like I was ready to watch Devon fall and go, "yeah, okay, I get it, I support it."
and that’s the trap.
this whole time, we knew who Maul is. manipulator, survivor, (at one point) a victim, walking vendetta wrapped in charisma, Sam Witwer voice, and cool tattoos. him technically not being a Sith anymore doesn’t cleanse anything. it just makes him more unpredictable. he’s not serving Sidious anymore, he’s serving himself.
and still… the show makes you feel for him.
that last episode especially felt like emotional whiplash in the best, most unsettling way. one moment you’re watching him inch closer to getting what he wants; Devon as an apprentice, and there’s this creeping tension where you think, "is it really gonna happen?" and then the next moment he’s practically delivering Master Daki to Vader like a calculated sacrifice.
and it snaps back into place.
oh. right. he’s awful.
but it doesn’t stick, does it? because then Daki dies, Devon is angry and shattering the way Maul wants.
and Maul... Maul has that moment. that barely-contained smile. that flicker of satisfaction he tries to hide while feeding her anger, sharpening it. "we will have our revenge." and suddenly you realize something deeply uncomfortable:
he’s not just manipulating her.
he’s been manipulating us the entire time.
because why are we feeling anything close to hope when he speaks? why does his pain feel compelling enough to blur the lines? why did I, even for a second, forget that wanting Devon to follow him is wanting her destruction?
it’s not just character writing at that point. it’s narrative sleight of hand.
and honestly? I have to give it to the writers. because making Maul likable isn’t new. making him tragic isn’t new. but making the audience complicit in his manipulation? making us feel the pull of the dark side alongside the characters?
that’s something else entirely.
it’s unsettling. and it works a little too well for my liking.
he's apparently left handed- he wears his lightsaber on the right side of his belt and usually fights left handed when using his saberstaff mode
but when fighting with a single blade he uses his right hand
(dual wielding is not really clear because he only seems to dual wield when facing an average of 2 blades per opponent, and there's too many red blades in there to tell which hand he's leading with)
early on in shadow lord, before daki kicks his knee, he opens with the typical left-handed double-bladed stance
but after (re)injuring his right leg he's apparently switched to fighting right handed, presumably to put less weight/movement on his injured leg!
hey did ya'll know that ed sheeran is working on a series of 6 albums named after media player buttons and the first one released last year and the last one is to be released posthumously on the day that he dies
