This was it, as the expression of her face changed straight into fear he knew he had got her. All he had to do was leave her now, in whatever state he wanted. He was finished with her.

Then she just had to go and let out her voice with one last plea. Almost like a slap in the face, Miles froze in place and stared into her eyes. He felt a painfully slow tug at his heart and he stood up straight. Let out a small huff and retreated to tool table. Setting down the flamethrower he cursed quietly under his breath. This was a test for himself, to take someone he genuinely cared for like family from his past- remove emotional ties, make them suffer, and end them.

And he failed.

“You’re right.. I’m just insane.” He scowled and walked back to where she was. “Crazy enough to do this.” Miles then unlocked her cuffs so she was free and took a few steps back from her. His shoulders immediately tensed up, as if preparing to now be killed.

The entire upper half of Alicia’s body collapsed when she was finally freed. Her arms slackened, resting upon the floor. She looked up, clearly shaken, but her tone was casual. “Y-you gave me a good scare.” Alicia began to stand back up, rubbing her wrists. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder why Miles had let her go. He was close to killing her, and maybe he could have gotten the throne. But he didn’t.

She gave him a side glance, an eyebrow raised. Her arms fell back to her sides, her voice regaining its cold composure. “Why did you do all of this?”

“To kill you.” He replied quietly. “I think I would of let you believe you would live but.. My intention was to kill you.” Admitting that, he felt a growing panic of dread boiling in his chest. “But I couldn’t do it.. That’s that.” He murmured quickly, trying to brush past the weakness. He continued on right away “ So.. If you’re going to hurt me or kill me you’d better do it now because I assure you I won’t give you the chance again.” He spoke quickly and ended with his eyes squeezed shut and his body tensed like a kid getting hollered at by a teacher.

His childish laughter only continued as he went back to the table, grabbing something else as he spoke back to her in a sing-song voice “Then Alicia I want your help getting me there~” He turned around and walked back towards her with his hands behind his back “But I can’t trust you right now not to kill me the moment I take the cuffs off you.”

His expression slowly fell an he stared at the other with an almost pity look. “Alicia, how I used to admire and fawn over you. This is not a look for the mighty queen that your are.” His eyes softened briefly as the nostalgia washed over him, then he brought forwards what looked like a small flamethrower. “But! I’ll be kind… I’ll take those embarrassing chains off you as soon as I burn the bottoms of your feet.” An odd statement at first, but with her feet in such incredible pain at any source of friction- how would she walk? Let alone, fight back with enough agility to catch Miles off guard.

She glared at his back, staggering back to her feet. But her expression quickly changed as soon as she saw the tiny flamethrower. Panic was clear as day as she began to back away, trashing and tugging on the chains.

“Miles, you’re fuckin’ insane!” The composure that was usually in her voice was completely gone. It was the tone of a scared, trapped animal. What did he want with her? She had nothing to offer! “Just leave me alone.” A whimper accidentally slipped out between quivering lips.

“What? Running out of words now? Threats? Insults? Ahh I couldn’t care less if you go utterly silent at this point my dear. As long as you understand you’re utterly trapped.”

Miles stepped closer and knocked a finger against the metal holding her arms up “My metal will not break, no matter how you tug or try to wear it down. You hands will go no where near anything important. Your feet being free is only a sense of false hope I give you, get that?”

He twirled the crowbar in his other hand and without warning swung it hard into her stomach with a childish laugh, like he was a bully poking fun at her name. “So give in and relax Alicia. I need you alive, so that when I am king. You will be an example to anyone thinking to dethrone me.”

Even with Miles’ taunts, she still tugged against the metal shackles, swaying forward and then back. She was at a lost for words, but even if she had something to say, it wouldn’t come out; her throat felt tight and dry. She leaned forward, closing her eyes, only being held up by her restraints.

Then she heard the sound of metal scraping along the floor. Alicia looked up in just in time to see a glint fly towards her in the dark. The bar made a wet slap sound as it connected with her gut. She let out a loud gasp and doubled, chains rattling as her knees buckled and fell,arms still being bounded up.

More rust colored saliva was spat out Alicia’s glaring, icy eyes stared at the fox cub, growling.

“You sadistic little fuck…There ain’t gonna be a throne for you to rule over.”

The large officer who had been watching over Miles shifted his weigh and turned away heading for the door. “ he’s all yours… “ He said to a far smaller individual. The slender Zone officer walked past the taller cop, and glanced up at him and nodded his head. Being a cadet he had to learn the fine art of interrogation, and questing and he had studied the finer points of the art himself. Combined with his own deductive reasoning skills he was already equipped for the task. Still he had to brace himself for dealing with someone every bit as intelligent and cunning as himself. In many ways far more experienced in this line of work then himself.

He stopped next to the table where Miles was strapped down and crossed his arms over his chest as he stared at his counterpart. Was earie almost like looking into a mirror really. He slowly reached up and tapped the side of his helmet, causing the metal to slide away and the visor to slowly slide away into the metal piece on the side of his head. He faced his counterpart with that stern, gaze he may have been a Tails, but was no childishness in those eyes, they were cold,dead and serious.

He paused a moment before speaking slowly and confidently “ Noted, though i will warn you that i am authorized to use any means necessary to find Scourges Location… and considering my position and Rank i have everything to prove, and nothing to lose… “ He paused as he set up a small table to his left, and eyed the various high tech toosl. “ so you could make this easy for both of us… answer my questions and we both go home, early can have a nice cup of tea… and that would be that. “ He slowly placed his hands behind his back as he stared Miles in the eyes “ Or… you could be difficult and i get to try all 9,728 techniques at my disposal to loosen your tongue… i’d rather not, i’m not violent by nature. But i think you know… as a Prower yourself, what i am capable of… So please, lets not test my resolve shall we? “ He stated in a very calm methodical way. He was no Tails, that much was made clear.

When he just stared at the other with a smirk in response to his question, he was already bracing for the impact of the device now struck to his temple. Unfortunately despite being prepared, the pain was still unexpectedly unbearable. His body jolted back against the chair and he stared at his arm as whimpers and grunts escaped his clenched jaw as he watched his hand melt before him. He wouldn’t scream. He wouldn’t yell.

Holding back the noise wanting to erupt inside him made his eyes swell up with tears when suddenly- Just like that. It was gone. The boy let out gasps to catch his breath that he didn’t even realize he was holding in as well. The stinging in his arm made his hands begin to shake and he turned his eyes away. These were all illusions, if the pain was going to continue he couldn’t watch what it was doing to his body or else he would lose it.

He wasn’t even listening to a word the other was trying to tell him, Ziles voice was almost muffed and sounded far away in the distance. Until it was suddenly right in his ear with a whispered. He jumped in his seat and his head flinched away from Ziles. “Look. Kid. You’re new, right? Yeah.. I shows.” He finally dragged up the courage to turn his head and glare straight into the others eyes

Ziles walked away from his counter part pressing keys on his wrist device and glanced over his shoulder at Miles. “ New? depends on how you look at it. Do i lack field experience? sure… but i’ve spent the better part of my life preparing for this position… “ He turned to face miles again with his tails swaying back and forth behind him. “ you look brave, but let me tell you something… the mind is a lovely thing. What we perceive is our reality… and now i control your reality… “ He stated pressing a button on his wrist come. He triggered the pain receptors in Miles brain that were linked to Miles femor in his head he heard the snapping of the bone, as it jutted out of his leg. It was real as real could be because it was accessing the pain nervous system in his head. “ did you know the femur is the most painful bone to break? they say its agonizing… how does that feel? “ He said with a slight tilt of his head toward Miles, and then slid his finger across the holopad causing miles other femur to snap slowly and break, least in Miles own mind, everything was as real as if it had happened to him physically.

“ do stop pretending Miles, this isn’t fake, or some magicians trick in your head… i’m triggering parts of your brain that control pain and perception. I control your reality… and i’m only just calibrating the device. How long do you think you can keep this facade up. We both know, i can do far worse then break a few bones or, melt a limb…so do you REALLY want to test me? just tell us what you know and i’ll stop… and we can both go home… “

He had really thought he would last longer, and was disappointing that wasn’t the case when the first bone broke and a loud scream escaped his throat. His eyes squeezed shut and he cursed and yelled profanities at the other fox. Then, the other bone began to crack “No! NO! Not the other-”

The second scream was far louder, and almost broke his voice right on the spot. He began to struggle in his seat and cry out in pain- Then again it was gone.

His eyes opened wide and he stared down at his perfectly a-okay limbs. While the pain slowly died down he began to tremble again and the tears streamed down his cheeks “I don’t know anything, I swear! The last I had even seen him was weeks before you showed up! He’d be long gone by now!” He sounded sincere, but was blabbering out lies through his tears in hopes to convince the kid enough.

“Heh heh, weeeeeell, not exactly.” He answered sheepishly. Wiping his hands once again, the fox walked over to the nearest soldier and, in a few jumps, waved his hand in front of its cold, emotionless, killer eyes. Nothing. Not a blink, no reaction.

“Their bodies are organic, but their brain… Their brains are computers. They are incapable of feeling emotion or pain, and cannot make decisions for themselves.”

“Jäger, what is your favourite colour?” The fox asked one of the soldiers, who froze up suddenly as his small computer brain futilely tried all its might to spew out an answer, to no avail.

Miles took a step to the side and watched the other show the extent of their mental actions. He tilted his head and watched the one try to think of it’s favorite color. “Interesting..” Miles mumbled, but then turned to the other and asked “But why make them flesh? If they are to be soldiers isn’t it more practical to give them metal build? What’s the point of a flesh being like them if there’s nothing more than that?” He hoped there was more to these soldiers than what he was just shown. “I could see if you used biological aspect to create a creative kind of being. Transforming or stretching properties normal metals cannot do. Or if these are just works towards a full living thinking creature- but what’s their point now?”

“It was mainly an experiment to, for one, attempt outer-utero growth, and for two, find a symbiosis of computer and natural bodies. The advantage of a natural body is that, it is a lot more versatile. You cannot train a robot or machine to accept varying amounts of input, such as food and water or sleep; fleshy bodies are significantly more naturally agile and mobile; and most importantly, they heal wounds, which is something a full robot cannot do.”

The other fox gave a nod of understanding with a small ‘ahh’. He again turned his attention to the soldiers. “I get it now.. Good point.” He wanted to really inspect them, but seemed almost afraid to even touch the things. Instead he turned back to the kitchen counter and returned to the food.

Miles stared as the other officer entered. He knew already who it was, without even the need to take the helmet off or even see the boys tails. He could spot an alternate in the dark if he had to. At first a low growl escaped his throat. A weak pathetic Tails or ‘Zails’ trying to break him was just a huge waste of his damn time.

But, he was surprised to see the other stare back at him with such cold eyes. Well well.. This was interesting. The threats barely phased him, in fact, he was suddenly far more fascinated with this alternate. “You just want to know where he is huh?” He smirked “I may hate the guy, but I hate you zone cops all the more.. So, Zails is it? What do you got kiddo? You really think I’ll talk?” A dangerous chuckle he tried to keep back broke out “You better prove yourself to ME before you even think of impressing anyone here whose even a centimeter taller than you!”

“Well, you either get food, which I assume you eat, or a slurry of artificial vitamins and proteins that I stockpile at the lab so / don’t have to eat.” Miles retorted, as he, with his back turned to the alternate, began selecting a small selection of garnishes on a spice rack, before walking over to one of the freezers to get some poultry.

“You know, I like efficiency and all.. But even your food? You sure those nanobots didn’t mess with your head too much?” He teased as he peered over the alternates shoulder to see what he was planning to make.

He felt a small tug of hunger again, but was able to better repress it. While he had little to eat during his absence, he wasn’t able to stick to much ‘healthy’ eating. He wasn’t even sure if he’d be able to keep the food down, but it looked good. “So what’s happened since you’ve been back to the world of living.”

“Do you want food or not? You seem quite content salvaging around for scraps like the rodent you are.” Miles shot back, and couldn’t help but crack a smirk, out of the other’s view.

“I’ve been on vitamins and hormones before I died, so it’s nothing really new. But, it was a real eye opener for me, I must admit. Realizing how short life can be, and the sheer luck that I had to be given a second chance, I didn’t squander it. I’ve been working nonstop, and, by some ironic chance… I have created life. And no, I didn’t get knocked up.”

The fox continued to methodically and with a skillful quickness minced the garnishes into tiny, uniform cubes, before sliding them into a bowl. Grabbing some olive oil, he dabbed a few drops into the bowl and mixed it around, then opened a drawer to retrieve a pan. All in close proximity, how handy.

“Hmph… Not a rodent” He murmured quietly under his breath just quiet enough for the other to barely make it out. Miles looked around and got up on a cleared counter and sat there watching him prepare the food and explain his latest scientific works. “I’d be very concerned, but not surprised, if you had.” He fired back, the little bickering war he wasn’t going to let go. “Alright.. So what sort of ‘life’ have you created?” As huge news as this would be to anyone else, he didn’t seem entirely enthusiastic, the thought of creating life never appealed to him. In any sort of the meaning.

Wiping his hands off on an adjacent cloth, Miles cleared his throat. Bring his wrist computer up to his mouth, her ordered, “Weidmann, to the kitchen.”

He calmly went back to cooking, but it was soon apparent; heavy, uniform footsteps had begun marching to their location. It sounded way to loud to be Mobian.

When the stomping was at its peak, the kitchen doors flew open and a dozen, massive, fully armed soldiers entered the kitchen and stood at ease in two staggered rows. Standing at six feet tall, they were twice as tall as the boys.

“Weidmann!” Miles called to them, which made them stand perfectly synchronized to attention, with a stomp of twelve boots.

“Weidmann Heil!” He called at them, a broad grin on his face

“HEIL!” They thundered, their voices reverberating around the kitchen and could probably have been heard several rooms away.

The fox glanced around slowly as they were suddenly in the presence of row of soldiers. His ears pinned back and he let out an irritated hiss in pain at the sudden booming of their voices. “Okay.. You’ve made soldiers.” He jumped off the counter and paced around to the line of men. Looking at their armor and weapons “Who are you going to war with? Or- rather.. Just what do you plan to do with them?”

“‘Unimpressive’, says he who looked at them with jealousy as we returned home.” Miles quipped, implying that these were the guards that he had seen earlier.

“One part paranoia, another part because I wanted to explore around biology. This took… A lot of attempts.” One memory of his first failed attempt made him shudder and throw up in his own mouth a little.

He felt his cheeks burn red and he huffed “Whatever, I was just trying to be nice.” Which wasn’t entirely true. He wouldn’t show it now, but he was still impressed with them. He usually stuck away from biology, for good reason.

It was interesting seeing what his alternate could to with it. “Well.. Congratulations then. You’ve done the powers of a God.”

When the stomping was at its peak, the kitchen doors flew open and a dozen, massive, fully armed soldiers entered the kitchen and stood at ease in two staggered rows. Standing at six feet tall, they were twice as tall as the boys.

“Weidmann!” Miles called to them, which made them stand perfectly synchronized to attention, with a stomp of twelve boots.

“Weidmann Heil!” He called at them, a broad grin on his face

“HEIL!” They thundered, their voices reverberating around the kitchen and could probably have been heard several rooms away.

The fox glanced around slowly as they were suddenly in the presence of row of soldiers. His ears pinned back and he let out an irritated hiss in pain at the sudden booming of their voices. “Okay.. You’ve made soldiers.” He jumped off the counter and paced around to the line of men. Looking at their armor and weapons “Who are you going to war with? Or- rather.. Just what do you plan to do with them?”

Miles stepped closer and knocked a finger against the metal holding her arms up “My metal will not break, no matter how you tug or try to wear it down. You hands will go no where near anything important. Your feet being free is only a sense of false hope I give you, get that?”

He twirled the crowbar in his other hand and without warning swung it hard into her stomach with a childish laugh, like he was a bully poking fun at her name. “So give in and relax Alicia. I need you alive, so that when I am king. You will be an example to anyone thinking to dethrone me.”

“Well, you either get food, which I assume you eat, or a slurry of artificial vitamins and proteins that I stockpile at the lab so / don’t have to eat.” Miles retorted, as he, with his back turned to the alternate, began selecting a small selection of garnishes on a spice rack, before walking over to one of the freezers to get some poultry.

“You know, I like efficiency and all.. But even your food? You sure those nanobots didn’t mess with your head too much?” He teased as he peered over the alternates shoulder to see what he was planning to make.

He felt a small tug of hunger again, but was able to better repress it. While he had little to eat during his absence, he wasn’t able to stick to much ‘healthy’ eating. He wasn’t even sure if he’d be able to keep the food down, but it looked good. “So what’s happened since you’ve been back to the world of living.”

“Do you want food or not? You seem quite content salvaging around for scraps like the rodent you are.” Miles shot back, and couldn’t help but crack a smirk, out of the other’s view.

“I’ve been on vitamins and hormones before I died, so it’s nothing really new. But, it was a real eye opener for me, I must admit. Realizing how short life can be, and the sheer luck that I had to be given a second chance, I didn’t squander it. I’ve been working nonstop, and, by some ironic chance… I have created life. And no, I didn’t get knocked up.”

The fox continued to methodically and with a skillful quickness minced the garnishes into tiny, uniform cubes, before sliding them into a bowl. Grabbing some olive oil, he dabbed a few drops into the bowl and mixed it around, then opened a drawer to retrieve a pan. All in close proximity, how handy.
