First off. BET Is a White Owned Company. Reality Check that We still Don’t Own Anything if you decided to lie to yourself or had others lie to you. And stop supporting BET.
BET got that Debra Coon Lee (Who’s some type of Rachel I swear) CEO up there, but I promise you that’s just to, again, make black people THINK they own anything AT ALL. What they won’t tell you, is that BET is company that was acquired by Viacom. In other words, BET, is a sidebitch company. a child company. They literally put a black person up there after buying it, so when ya research ya think “oh thank god”. No. No nigga, that’s not how the world works. To know who owns the company, know who owns the parent network. The current CEO is an employee. If Philippe Dauman wanted to fire this lady tomorrow, he could do it. She don’t own nothin’, just like your black ass. Your BET is owned by the same people who own VH1 & MTV. That Channel you’re watching is a business Acquisition. If they bought a Latino company today they’d put a Latino person up there having you think it’s Latino owned. – I was never going to say anything, mostly because I don’t watch that poor excuse of a channel that wraps your minds and slowly destroys our Black communities in ways you don’t know, But I decided to say something when I heard from someone (cause I ain’t about to watch no bullshit ass award), that
A White Man Won An Award On BET? It’s about Time. I assumed white people been winning awards on there for the longest.
BET, IS NOT FOR BLACK PEOPLE. BET WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED TO ACTUALLY MOVE BLACK PEOPLE UP, AND EDUCATE BLACK PEOPLE, AND SAVE THE YOUTH FROM THE EFFECTS OF DESTRUCTION BLACK PEOPLE WENT THROUGH IN THE PAST. NOW THAT IT’S ACQUIRED, PLEASE NOTICE THE CHANGE. NOTICE HOW THEY CONTROL YOUR PEOPLE THROUGH WHAT YOU DON’T OWN.
The Co-Founder of the company, who sold the company said this in a past interview:
In an interview, Sheila Johnson said she herself is “ashamed” of what the BET has become. “I don’t watch it. I suggest to my kids that they don’t watch it,“ she said. “When we started BET, it was going to be the Ebony magazine on television. We had public affairs programming. We had news… I had a show called Teen Summit, we had a large variety of programming, but the problem is that then the video revolution started up… And then something started happening, and I didn’t like it at all. And I remember during those days we would sit up and watch these videos and decide which ones were going on and which ones were not. We got a lot of backlash from recording artists…and we had to start showing them. I didn’t like the way women were being portrayed in these videos.” – Stop watching or supporting BET. (Lol you’ll still watch though. Cause what revolution? They got some great shows :D Right?)
Black people, we still don’t own anything, at all. In any way.
It’s time Black people started making their own Channels, and Shows. even if it’s not on TV, a network online, something we can personally support. I’ll be starting a project like that myself. gathering imaginative people, or funding anyone who has created their own black owned thing, and trying to gather them on one network.
I’m tired of people constantly cosigning BET’s fuckery because of solidarity, because honestly we deserve better
We don’t have to take it. We do deserve better. And we can GET Better OURSELVES, by Ourselves, and have it owned BY Us. We been talking for too long, it’s time for action.
