Times when Ji Eun Tak blew out the fire (Ep1-16)
kimshln. // so the goblin does have a heart.
perhaps this is a chance for him to let down some of his front, show her that he is not as cold-hearted as it seems, confuse her a bit more. he believed in doing it for her sake, to maintain the image that he is a mighty goblin, but likes to trickle in some doubt in her. the goblin takes her hands off of her scarf and instead moves behind her, taking the scarf and wrapping it slowly around her neck.Â
once he finishes, kim shin returns to stand in front of eun-tak once more, looking at her now partially covered face.
â    i did. i know how cold youâd get if you forgot to put it on. i would rather you stay warm instead of freeze completely before you make it to your job. â he does not mention its importance and connection to her mother â- that would be too much of a turn for eun-tak to believe.
she pulls the thick fabric down to her neck, if only for her words to remain clear and unhindered on their way to him. all of a sudden, the cold that nipped at the tips of her toes, at her fingers, at her nose ââ it is as though it dissipates, leaving behind a warmth in her cheeks previously unheard of in her short, trying life. she canât look him in the eye just yet, but heaven knows sheâll try to bluff her way out of this conversation now so she can still her hummingbird heartbeat out of earshot, in peace.Â
â i ... â alright, perhaps not a good start to that plan. try again, eun tak. â you should go home. donât want you catching a cold because of me. â jamming her hands into her pockets, she starts walking away again, quicker this time. seeing his face makes it hard to continue to be mad, and already she can feel the annoyance fade with every passing second in his presence.
kimshln. // is this an apology ?
the goblin hears the door shut as he looks over behind him, her red scarf still hanging on the coat rack next to it. sheâd not remembered to take it, sheâll be cold, sheâll lose connection with her mother. he lets out a sigh as he leaves the meat in his pan ââ the reaper can tend to it. he knows how they like it anyways. he walks over to the doorway and takes the scarf, but he figures that thereâs a better way to give it to her. he waits for a little while ââ and walks through the door, ending up outside on the street, a little bit ahead of eun-tak.Â
he stands for a moment, his hand reaching out with the scarf for her to take.
â    you forgot this. i would put it on. it seems quite chilly. â
she sees his tall frame on the road ahead and her step falters just the slightest, eyelashes fluttering against the tops of her cheeks as she takes him in. the young bride has half the mind to ignore him ââ and she wouldâve, had he not in his hands her most prized possession. her pace picks up immediately, sneakers hitting against pavement, only to come to a stop in front of him, tentative hands reaching for the thick fabric.
her ahjussi might have the social skills of a recluse, but when it matters, he does not fail to warm her heart with thoughtful deeds.Â
â ah. thank you. mustâve slipped my mind ... you didnât have to go after me for it, though. â
you cheesy goblin
âWeâre all wandering the earth,
alone,
longing to be longed for.â
kimshln // secrets donât keep us safe.
â    thatâs what i plan on doing. no one likes someone who snoops around. â he gives a satisfied expression to his bride, turning around to tend to his meat, moving it around in the pan for a little while, making sure every inch of it gets cooked and tended to. he wanted it to be pure and whole, especially if he was sharing it with a certain reaper. â i thought you said you had work to go to. â
â i wasnât snooping. i was asking you directly. â her hands are shoved into her coat pockets, and she sees that for what it is ââ dismissal. conversation over. itâs annoying how he does it, but there is only so much pushing she can do before he shuts her down yet again. perhaps her attempts are best saved for another day. eun-tak turns to leave, a huff almost escaping from her throat. if he wants to be left alone, then fine ââ see if she cares. â iâll be home late. donât wait up, i guess. âÂ
in her haste to extract herself from his presence, sheâs forgotten to grab her red scarf.Â
kimshln // canât ever joke with you, can i ?Â
â    itâs not burning, â the goblin replies, not moving his gaze over to it. â iâm just letting it sizzle in the pan a little more. marinate. make it taste better. and youâve diverted the conversation away. â he is firm, and cold â but it must stay that way. how could he cave now ? over 900 years and so close to breaking free of this life â he could fake a little more before it was necessary.
â aish âââ i thought it would work. â it is muttered under her breath, pout forming on pretty pink lips. for however much she tries, he is steadfast in his refusal to let her inside his walls, and yet she is supposed to be his bride. how can she, when he is like this ? are they not to share with each other what plagues their hearts and remain by each other ? is that not what marriage should be ? â fine. keep your secrets. i wasnât that interested, anyway. â
kimshln // liar broomstick.
â    chump change? this money was all earned fair and square, just like youâre doing now ! it is my money that i earned myself ! this isnât chump change at all ! â the goblin looks over his bride, expression completely bewildered. â you can earn your five million won fairly by actually earning it. â
â oh yeah ? what did you do, then, considering you donât even have a job now ? for all i know, itâs chairman yu whoâs doing all the work and youâre just leeching off of himââ â she wrinkles her nose, unwilling to back down but knowing sheâs lost, and she points to his steak, sizzling in the frying pan: â ah. your expensive meat is burning. â
@kimshlnâ // aka cheapskate.
â   yes. that was a temporary offer⊠and you have a part time job anyway, right ? â
â if youâve ever worked part time, youâd know how hard it really is to earn that much ... and, see, itâs not like giving me five million won will make you dirt poor ââ you own extremely successful international businesses ! itâll just be chump change to you ! â
