Boo!
Lia flinched at the sudden scare. In spite of the overt reaction, she smoothed over it. They've been in eachothers orbit for... What, a year or two? Yet she has not gotten any closer to detecting his sneaking.
"So you have chosen... Trick."
Turning slowly to face him, she uttered an ominous sentence.
One second she was regarding him, the next she was 'getting revenge' by hauling Xavier up over the shoulder like a potato sack and twirling the wise guy while he was up there.
"Plead for mercy!"
She cackled.
infold told me to die, pay 3 dollars for this outfit but I dont want to so I drew my MC in it
"I'm dying to know what Mephs inside parts look like. Can I dismantle him? I'll put him back together again all nicely, promise!"
“Sweetie,” he said, voice smooth and teasing, “you can dismantle him… if you can catch him first.”
He let the words hang, an agitated caw behind him as Mephisto fluttered away from both of them. “And,” he added with a wry tilt of his head, “if you can’t quite put him back together again… don’t worry. I’ll take over."
“Think you’re up for it, my dear fox?”
"Phenomenal."
Lia mimicked his satin tone, with a cheesed grin that was not at all Sylus like. She was already sitting up, crouched as if to get in position to pounce.
Dark brown eyes honed on the in motion target broke to glance at him.
"No you don't have to take over, teach me so we can do it together."
She interjected in confidence that she would be a quick study. Then to the bird, she beckoned with,
"Pspsps, here Mephy boy! I just want to see if you're arranged pretty on the inside as you are on the outside!"
Sylus leaned back in his chair, one brow lifting as he watched her. The amused curve of his lips deepened when Mephisto, perched safely on a high shelf, tilted his head and gave a soft, smug caw.
“Sweetie,” he drawled, voice dipped in lazy amusement, “you’d have to do a lot more than pspsps to get him down here.” He gestured slightly toward the bird, who blinked his crimson optics in clear agreement. “He’s a crow, not a cat.”
She replied indignantly, a slight puff in her speckled cheeks.
"I know that— I'm not that blind, I was just trying it out."
What could a creature who has no needs possibly desire? She could find out by peeking at his coding but that required her to have Mephisto in her clutches, which she was still in progress of doing.
Lia removed the necklace hidden under her layers and dangled the metallic pendant, a gleam on its smooth surface to attract the crow.
"Mephisto~ You want this? Want to play fetch?"
Now she was treating him like a dog. If he didn't take the bait, she would have to grab him by aggressive means. Peace no more once she has exhausted the easy options.
Maybe she could trap him at his usual perching spots...

The air hung thick and humid, smelling faintly of sulfur and wet earth. You had followed the narrow, overgrown deer path, expecting only the solitude of the late afternoon, but as you rounded the cluster of dripping moss-covered boulders, the scene that opened before you practically stole the breath right out of your lungs.
The hot spring, a shallow, steaming bowl carved naturally into the granite, was utterly silent save for the low gurgle of water bubbling up from the earth. And there, submerged to his waist, was Caleb.
He hadn't heard you. His head was tipped back against the slick stone edge, eyes closed, a picture of profound, unguarded peace. The twilight filtered through the canopy above, dappling his skin with shifting, watery light—a light that seemed to enhance the sculpted planes of his chest and the stark, wet definition of his shoulders. Water beaded and slicked across the taut skin of his abdomen, catching the dim light as it traced the shallow valley leading down into the steaming water.
You were there, an unwelcome voyeur. Every detail was magnified: the dark, wet strands of hair plastered to his temples; the slight tremor in his Adam's apple as he swallowed; the way the steam clung to him, a sheer, shimmering veil that somehow made his nudity more immediate, more shocking. He was utterly exposed, vulnerable in a way you had never seen, and the sudden, overwhelming intimacy of the moment felt like a physical blow. It was the body of a man you had known for so long, now laid bare and magnificent, a landscape of muscle and heat, utterly unfamiliar and devastatingly vivid.
❝𝙿𝚒𝚙𝚜𝚚𝚞𝚎𝚊𝚔? 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚐𝚘𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎?❞
His voice rung out, that playful warmth in his voice that he always carried around with him, his eyes suddenly on you in their totality.
Outdoors in mother nature’s bare earth wasn’t somewhere she frequented unless prompted by a mission, or call from others. A dark room lit only by monitors, electricity buzzing through the wires was her territory. Being out of reach from signals and constant connection would have her perturbed but this once, it was a nice change of pace. Albeit slow, she wasn’t counting the minutes.
At dark she had the idea of dropping by the spring she crossed earlier. Too perfect not to– the biting brisk complemented the balmy waters. Evening ambiance was the cherry to top it off.
Arriving before the thermal spa, she halted upon noticing Caleb. At first, she was tickled that they had the same idea, in sync. Then her eyes fell to his body. That unintentionally lurid display had her stupefied, seizing her tongue from announcing her presence first. As if the gods have taken a page out of her book of fantasies and played it as a sick joke.
Sure, they had been exposed to each other before but that was long ago when they were young. The optics were different now. His boyish youth Lia had known was gone, replaced with a picturesque individual. A trap. Her gaze was condemned to follow the lines of his anatomy. Guilt shook her chain of thought as it bordered amorous for her childhood friend, chastising her in the private sanctity of her own mind.
“No– yeah, I’m coming–”

Hugs her and runs away.
"Well, hello to you too—"
She remarked with a ghost of a laugh when suddenly enveloped in arms. As the perpetrator skiddaddled away, Lia clasped her hands over her heart. With dramatic gasps and stumbles, she wheezed,
"Ack, I've been hit..."
Lia stood with an awfully rigid posture, hands tucked behind her back. Eyes darted to any motion in her immediate surroundings for the individual she had summoned. The burgeoning anticipation was torturous. Once catching sight of Xavier, she had scampered up to meet him early.
"You're here, hi."
She started, though try as she might to sport a casual guise, a nervous energy radiated off her in waves. Since her mouth was uncooperative, she shoved an object into his hands first.
"Igotthisforyou, for your birthday."
More accurately, she made it for him but that sounded so... Personal to admit. And it was.
What he would behold was a uniquely shaped jar of iridescent and glow in the dark origami stars, counting 520 of them. An equally elaborate card that had a pull mechanism to open the contents was afixed to the neck of the glass with a silk ribbon. Inside, there was a curated collection of moments and milestones stuck in picture form of the two together. She was never a girl that could convey mushy feelings eloquently. Instead, she put that into the gifts.
"Uuh, thats not all. That's just the beginning so... Don't thank me yet!"
Her tone shifted to a stilted cheerfulness. Slightly cut hands that folded his present found a home in her pockets. Lia gave a lopsided smile to say,
"I'm gonna spoil you— we're gonna eat out, hit that trendy restaurant that could only be booked in advance. You can eat as much as you want, its on me."
She was prepared to shell the big bucks for this occasion, wanted to really, because he deserved nice things. An arm looped around his shoulder.
"Happy birthday. I should thank your parents for making you, I dunno if I can imagine a better Wanderer vanquishing buddy by my side."
"Buddy?" Xavier blinked but amusement shown through while he cradled the object in his arm, and with his free hand reached to catch her waist and without giving her a second to protest, laid a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Is this something only buddies do? Do you have other buddies you pull out all the stops on birthdays for? Then... we should do even more than that. And I'm booking you in advance for next year too. Oh, and..."
As he trailed off, he admired the shimmering bottle of stars that looked as intricate as they did delicious, although he'd never admit it. While holding it up, he pulled out his phone and pulled her closer to snap a photo of them both. As if wishing on the stars in the jar, he finally continued,
"My first wish of today already came true. Let's make so many memories that they won't fit in a jar or card next year."
I can finally wear my heels without sticking out so much, dust bunnies been making a home outta them
