hi evyl darling I'm back with a new fic rec, though not a femdreil one this time sadly.

I was gazing in awe at your bullseye / rabbit imagery recent andreil work and realized that the tags did not include anything along the lines of "red rabbits." i looked because the imagery there fits the themes and imagery of that fic SO well that i thought it might be intentional.

it's decently well known n popular in the fandom so you may have already heard of it or tried it. but if not! its a really impressive immersive project and digs into some of that haunting, hunted prey imagery/theme.

i didn’t tag it bc this wasn’t intended as fanart for that fic specifically, even though I can absolutely see why it made you think of it. the parallels are definitely there!!

when i was drawing this, i had a different story in mind. in my head it was more canon-compliant, set after the first three books when andrew and neil are finally starting to build a life together after everything. then one day neil just… disappears.

and andrew had no idea what happened. did neil leave because of old habits, paranoia or fear? was he taken? is he even alive? he has absolutely nothing to go on which is why he’s surrounded by darkness. he’s completely in the dark, emotionally and literally. there’s this quiet, settled despair because everything was finally okay and then suddenly it wasn’t.

meanwhile neil is in actual danger. the rabbit imagery was meant to show him as hunted prey, trapped behind something man-made, caught in a situation he can’t escape.

so that was my thought process while drawing it, but i really like that people can bring their own interpretations to it. i think that’s one of the coolest parts of making art. and honestly your connection to Red Rabbits makes perfect sense to me, even if it wasn’t the original inspiration.

the sudden wave of aftg art made with AI that makes all of the characters look shallow and conventionally identical, as if this fandom isn’t filled with talented and amazing artists that pour emotion and soul into these characters ( @hamrikaa @agathah @evyltalks @feluart @piripya @phyiro @patitojus … AND SO MUCH MOREE)

like, guys, come on, let’s not use this slop that’s harmful towards people and the environment and support these wonderful people that do so much for the fandom, either by sharing their art WITH CREDITS, commissioning them, or js not using the machine that steals from them just because you want a prettier kevin day

idk about other artists but i’m pretty sure a lot of us feel incredibly thankful for the people actively speaking up against the rise of ai “art” slop and the use of our work in those generators

and also if you ever see my art being used in ai stuff or reposted without credit, please tell me if you can (i won’t talk for other artists so maybe asked them first). it’s always upsetting seeing your work denatured like that but id still rather know than have it circulate without me ever finding out. most of the times i found out my work had been fed into ai or reposted weirdly, it was bc someone cared enough to take the time to dm me about it or leave a comment so i could know what was happening and i genuinely think that’s incredibly thoughtful

it means a lot knowing there are people who still care about artists as actual human beings behind the work instead of just seeing images to consume endlessly and rapidly

supporting artists matters more than ppl think. liking, commenting, sharing with credits, commissioning artists, talking to us about our work, that human connection is literally why i love creating in the first place. i really hope we can keep sharing art this way without constantly fearing for our work to be stolen, stripped of its meaning and fed to machines

my dash offered me some ask/answer referencing your femdreil and I simply had to see it. #slut for the sapphication of my favorite trashgremlin murderjock homos. and holy weeping Mary despicable fuckoff Christ was I NOT disappointed wowowoww. trembling. choking on my spit. so awed by the characterization and implications conveyed by the details wow every line of that is so sexy. also re: your posts about femdreil fic, one of my All Time Favorites is a femslash grad-school au by wishbonetea on ao3. it's not smutty and violent and Eventful in the way lots of aftg fic is but the prose is filthy batshit delicious and I LOVE the way the feminized experience subtley colors her characterization of The Gals. I'm like 80% sure the title is "me you and the multiverse" but I cannot check rn unfortunately.

¡also! that fifteen minutes spent trawling your dash enlightened me that the recent HockeyGa(y)te x Andreil art I've adored is by the same person responsible for those STUNNING portraits of eyebrow-piercing-HauntedHazelOrbs-NonWoobified-stockyjock Andrew and College-hoodie-AUBURN≠GINGER-prettyboyjock-bandana Neil ???? hi so I love you. your brain and hands and iPad skills are disgustingly sexy. my first aftg read was five? years ago so I've seen a gorgeous wealth of truly stunning fanart but fick if your Andrew doesn't perfectly embody the way his persona has always felt in my head. i find it ill-fitting when he's illustrated as slender and Pretty and Fine-Boned in that Elvish Anglican Delicate way. like YES he has haunting empty cold but objectively beautiful hazel eyes YES he is athletic but STOCKY and DENSE, I ADORE the hard-jaw square profile OBVIOUS TENSION ugh he's so hot and tragic and sharp and vicious it's so perfect. I could go on and on but moral of the story is you're so cool and I've been unknowingly loving your art for probably actual fucking years atp. <333333 layf

wow genuinely thank you so much🥹 reading this was actually insane in the best possible way. the amount of detail you noticed like SO many tiny things about how i draw and characterize them and it genuinely means a lot to me bc those are exactly the kinds of details i obsess over while drawing 😭

also the way you described andrew made me want to scream bc YES exactly. i’ve always imagined him as compact and dense and sharp in a way that feels dangerous even when he’s standing still so hearing that my version matched how he’s always somehow existed in your head is genuinely one of the nicest compliments i could get <333

and thank you for mentioning the femdreil stuff too omg… i’m absolutely adding that fic to my tbr bc “filthy batshit delicious prose” is possibly the strongest recommendation imaginable

also this ask genuinely made me realize maybe i should maybe start putting my username bigger on my art 😭 bc a lot of people apparently don’t realize some of those drawings are all by the same person (me lol) i do sign everything but the username is tiny under the signature bc i treated it more like a stylistic thing than branding HDKDJDK

i get what you mean but if i tried to apply my moral code with complete purity id probably have to leave twitter, instagram, youtube and probably half the internet. there’s no perfectly ethical social media platform and there probably never will be under capitalism.

im on bluesky too (which is a equivalent for twt) but most of the people i know and interact with regularly are still on twitter. at the end of the day iman artist trying to share my work, reach people, make somehow a living from commissions and that happens through visibility online. basically im trying to exist online without making myself miserable.

we all end up navigating contradictions and compromises online whether we want to or not. this is just how i personally handle it

CHUBBY BABY ANDREWWW i lowk always imagined him skinny and scrawny as a kid but ive said this b4 whatever u draw just becomes canon like yes chubby tiny baby with a shirt that has a cat tag. of course. makes perfect sense

PLEASE 😭 i love the idea of chubby baby andrew so much like let him have his little round cheeks and silly cat shirt for at least five minutes before life starts hitting him with a steel chair

i think drawing him softer as a kid is my way of holding onto the idea that he was still just a tiny little person once. like before everything happened to him he deserved to be cute and warm and carried around and given snacks and tucked into bed properly :(

love your artwork but I have a bit of an odd question as somebody who spends hours doomscrolling anything to do with Lily and defending her against snape fans (you know the ones).

Why, in fanart, is she always the plussized partner and never James? I've come to hate this trope with headcanon and fanart in general where the female or fem aligned character is made to be fat but the male or masc aligned partner gets to stay skinny/fit. And you can't say it's because James is in a sport because then what are you saying? He can't be chubby and be sporty? Isn't that a pretty hurtful stereotype for most people?

I'm sure it says something about how this fandom treats women, it feels like putting down a canonically beautiful female character, to the point where she's held as the most beautiful person in the story, to make her male counterpart look "hotter", especially when SHES the only plussized person in the artwork/fanfic.

And I'm not talking about post pregnancy Lily, weight gain is normal during pregnancy, i love when artists change a characters body after they've had a baby, that attention to detail is *muah* chefs kiss, amazing.

What I'm trying to say is stop being scared to make James a little big, you cowards, body positivity in art isn't limited to women!!!

i think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding here between what you’re trying to address and who you’re addressing it to. i’m not in this fandom anymore so this whole conversation feels kind of pointless for me (if we’re strictly talking about Lily and james). i’m not contributing to current trends and i’m not going to be drawing these characters again

the way i drew them before was just my interpretation and that’s not going to change. lily is plus-size in my work because that’s how i see her, and that’s it. i’ve always drawn what felt right to me in the moment (and rn it’s nothing related to hp/the marauders)

also saying that making her plus-size is “putting women down” is weird. that logic leans way too close to beautiful = thin which i don’t agree with. i draw her that way because i think she’s hot.

for james: yes, body diversity can (and should be) applied to men too. and ppl do draw him bigger. if you want to see more of that, support those artists, commission them or (even better) draw it yourself

but this isn’t something i’m going to take on, especially not through an anonymous ask when i’m not even in the fandom anymore

so yeah, this is really a conversation to have within your own fandom spaces. not my circus, not my monkeys

probably twitter. i think i’m more of a twitter person. i’ve been on it for so long it just feels natural at this point. i see the appeal of tumblr and i like the vibe, but i never really got into it during its big era. back then i was mostly on we heart it and twitter so i missed a lot of the tumblr culture. i think that’s why twitter still feels like home to me
