justin was maybe ten feet from the coffee shop, a small sigh of relief escaping him. he was sure nothing would happen between the few steps he had to take across the street to reach his destination. he was wrong though, as a passerby walked out of a nearby alleyway, startling him enough for him to slip on the wet pavement, nearly stumbling over. luckily, he had good balance. he quickly jogged across the street, running a hand through his hair, his cheeks flushed a bright red. “— you didn’t see that, right ? heh…”

“Sounds like you’re pretty smart to me.” Justin says with a small smile, contemplating whether or not to leave his hand on top of the others, but ultimately he pulls away returning them to his lap. “I don’t think I’m quite cut out for Wall Street, you really think I’m good enough to work at some fancy bank?” He teases before chuckling, “It was Justin.”

“Justin… Justin… Justin Daniels. Currently the only Justin on my brother’s roster. I graded your first exam and spoiler alert, you didn’t do terrible, but I feel like I could definitely help you study for the next one. It only gets harder from here.” Peyton returns to his food, breaking off a piece of the cookie and eating it. “And no, before you ask I won’t give you the answer keys to any of the tests. Cheating is bad.”

“That’s good?” Justin said in a questioning tone before letting out a laugh when the male spoke again, “Oh great one please tell me how to pass accounting even though I aced the first test. Unless you cheated for me because you liked me already.” Justin teases knowing he’d never do such a thing, “If I really wanted to cheat, don’t you think I’d ask anyone else but my professor’s brother? Especially when I haven’t made him fall madly in love with me yet.”

Justin gave another grin before placing his hand on top of Peyton’s, “Don’t worry you didn’t offend me.” He said between giggles, before sliding his cookie back over to him, “Keep it, you dork.” Justin nods, “That’s really cool, you must pretty smart then Peyton,” He lets the others name slip out so effortlessly Peyton he repeated in his mind, “Well I can hope, I kinda want to stay here in town but I’m not really sure where my career choice might take me.”

“Um… I’m not that smart… numbers just kind of make sense to me. They always look really nice and pretty in my head.. like a puzzle.” He looks like Justin’s hand on top of his. It felt comfortable, and surprisingly not awkward. “You could do a lot.. like even go to WallStreet or something. Or work for a really fancy bank…” A small smile forms on his lips as he trails off. “Oh um.. what was your name again?”

Justin spots the boys blush from the corner of his eye but doesn’t say anything, just smiles and winks playfully. Wondering what effect a simple wink could possibly have. “And suddenly you’ve crushed my dreams of wanting to be an accountant.” Justin says with a fake pout before bursting into a grin, “But to answer you’re question I have, I actually want to into Cost Accounting and Economics.”

“N-no.. Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to offend you.” He panics for a moment before sliding the cookie that was meant to be his dessert across the table to Justin. As if the cookie would solve his social awkwardness. “I um… I sometimes help Pat grade his exams and assignments when he’s too busy. It all looks really fancy and cool, but nothing too complicated… I know uh.. with that kind of brain you’ll get a really good job.”

“I couldn’t imagine how someone like you could be eating alone, you’re adorable.” Justin was almost surprised by the flirty tone of his voice as he mentally shrugged it off and sat done across from the stranger. He listened to the other boys questions before chuckling, “Yeah, is it that obvious? I actually go to Beachwood.” When the boy utters the next sentence Justin is taken by surprise wondering if he should retract his compliment or not, “Oh that’s cool, you’re Professor Parker’s little brother.”

Peyton almost chokes on his sandwich as Justin compliments him. His face felt hot and he hoped he didn’t look too silly in front of a cute guy. “Y-yeah… Have you had class with him then? He teaches account.. Which is like super boring. I’ve read through all the text books he uses..” He looks back up at him. “U-unless you think accounting is cool.. then yeah, accounting is super cool.” He laughs nervously.

Peyton Parker. My oldest brother is a professor at Beachwood.”

Peyton had been watching him from across the street, eating his lunch, tomato soup and a grilled cheese, as he watched him nearly fall on his face. He tried not to laugh, as he always found laughing at other people’s pain to be sinful in some way. As Justin got closer, Peyton kept his head down, hoping the stranger hadn’t noticed him watching. He keeps quiet until Justin speaks up. “Um… I’ve seen worse things happen on that street.”
