Raira was grateful to Shugo being a partial shield to her. She started curling in on herself. Why would Shugo admit that? She was going to be in so much trouble.  “O-oh uhm…Well…”Raira started,”The truth can be a bit hard to believe, hun…I got possessed by Yveltal – he does that sometimes, possess me – and decided to take advantage of what was going on in Kalos to do some damage of his own… “She looked like she was about to cry,”A-apparently Kalos badges will help, according to Shugo and the priests in Johto…So I-I want to get them quickly.” She actually was crying now, and wind started picking up around her. “I should’ve gotten them sooner…Or fought against him harder or something, I know… I don’t want to hurt people like this…I don’t…”

Shugo smiled inwardly at Raira’s courage. It was a start… Now it was up to Kane. Things could either end positively or negatively, and the way it turned out would certainly influence Raira’s willingness to be honest with the rest of the town.

“There wasn’t anything that Raira could do with her current badge count. That’s why it’s important that we get the rest of them quickly, so that this will never happen again. We’d appreciate you’re cooperation.”

Kane wrote down everything the two were telling him. Weirdly enough not even batting an eyelash when Raira told him about Yveltal. He merely nodded and wrote away at his little notepad. And once Shugo asked him for Kane’s own cooperation, the retired ranger closed his notepad shut and looked at his watch.

“The gym should still be open at this hour. You are... another one of those ‘cursed children’, correct? You have been honest with me. I appreciate your cooperation. And of course, I will help you out, miss. Both of you. I will aid in your company until you get all the badges necessary to help contain Yveltal. Is that acceptable?

“Raira had started to calm down at the hand on her shoulder. Until Kane asked his question. She tensed back up at this. “I’m I’m sure lots of things happen in Cyllage, hun!”She squeaked quickly,”I-I’d love to help you, and maybe after I get my badge I can. But I should really get it today, and the gym closes soon. Probably.”

Feeling her tense, Shugo patted her shoulder and lifted his gaze to meet Kane’s. Well, this was it… He had to take the chance. If this went poorly then he’d probably never be able to convince Raira to come clean… But if it went well, maybe it’d give her some confidence. It was testing the waters, so to speak.

“We know what happened.” He stepped in front of Raira now, to offer her a partial shield. Ya know, as much as a nerd can offer. “What do you want to know?”

Kane blinked once, keeping his stare a neutral one. Wouldn’t you know that he looked slightly intimidating like that. Nobody’s ever told him otherwise he would have worked to change it. He was oblivious to it.

“The gym will not close yet. My questions will be quick, no need to hurry.”

That was mostly said so they wouldn’t leave as fast. But apparently the other man seemed to step forward voluntarily.

‘The girl tensed when I spoke up about Cyllage. I am positive they have something to do with this. The man stepped forward, in front of the girl. Attention to focus on him, leaving the girl to feel less nervous. Admirable actions. He cares for her?

“Ah.” Kane definitely shifted his attention to Shugo once he said they did know what happened. And to tell him on their own. Good. Kane took out a small pen and notepad then cleared his throat. “Tell me what happened. In detail. And do not lie.”

“No I don’t, hun,”Raira protested, but didn’t run off,”I am totally inconspicuous….Do you think the hat will be enough?” She froze for a second, before whipping around, looking very much like a deerling in the headlights. “Pfft. who’s suspicious, hun? We’re not suspicious! We’re just heading to get a badge! Not suspicious at all, hun.”

Shugo actually jumped when Kane called them out. He had been pretty confident up until that moment that no, they weren’t actually suspicious.  No, they wouldn’t attract attention… At least he wouldn’t, and yet… Apparently, he actually did.

“Suspicious? Us?” He puased… Yeah, okay. He didn’t pursue that accusation much further, instead putting a hand ‘comfortingly’ on Raira’s shoulder. “Okay. Shoot. What questions?”

Kane’s unyielding eyes focused on Raira once she started to speak, then at Shugo once he started to speak. Kane noticed the act of Shugo touching Raira’s shoulder.

‘Repeated the word suspicious. Seems anxious. Nervous? She is indeed suspicious. The other, startled at my presence. Placed a hand on her shoulder. Trying to help her calm? A sign of discomfort towards the situation at hand? Possibly. Must investigate further.’

“I seek to find out what happened in Cyllage. I am hoping one of you could provide a possible answer to this.”

Raira was darting between rocks as they got closer to Cyllage. Her hair was hidden in an old blue cap. She nervously looked around, and then up at Shugo. “I-is the coast clear?”She whispered. She readied herself to run to the shadow of the nearest building.

“Yes, the coast is clear…” Shugo sighed. Before Raira could take off, he reached for her cap and prepared to yank it off if she ran. “You know, when you act this shady you probably attract even more attention.”

“HALT.”

Called out a rather loud voice, which seemed to be chasing after them. In reality, it was just this random ranger powerwalking his way towards them. Strangely enough, this ranger had only the hat of one. The rest of his uniform absent. He was on casual. or what he would call casual as he looked like he was about to go hiking through the woods. With boots, strong material pants and a long sleeved, black shirt.

“The two of you seem to be acting suspicious. I require of you answers to my questions.”

That does not sound very safe... I do so encourage that you exercise extreme caution to whatever it is you are attempting to do, Satou. I do still remember you going too far and ending up with me carrying you to a hospital. I do not wish a reason to repeat that.

  Faye nodded, she found it strange too but she shouldn't be one to say such a thing. “I can sorta see where she’s coming from though. I’ve had bad experiences with certain pokemon myself, and I just..” she stopped, searching for the right word and ended up just shrugging, “Its hard to explain. I know that not all pokemon of that species behave the same exact way, but it’s basically an unconscious reaction at that point.”

"Hmm.. the chicken sounds-" her face lit up at the mention of the fish stew, "Oooooh! I love seafood, I’m getting that then! But I don’t think I can even pronounce that to be honest." The brunette laughed.

"You don’t have to compliment me for anything." Cinnie’s ears flicked back as she looked him over, what were this one’s intentions now? The fox made a gesture, similar to shrugging, “I just don’t enjoy strangers constantly telling me that I’m beautiful.”

Kane's face light up ever so lightly. The doom and gloom up in this room, was broken instantly. By this magic little fish stew that would grant her feasting wish. CAUSE IN REALITY THEY'RE OOODD PARENTS FAIRLY ODD PARENTS.

And you could see how Kane's mood lit up the sorrowful establishment. It was like a small candle in a dark room. Speaking about food made him happy. It was one of those little things that he could always enjoy and would never let him down. Even if he didn't like the food.

"You will enjoy the bouillabaisse, then. The ingredients the cooks here use are always fresh. I have asked before. And they have even allowed me to see how they make some of the dishes."

And that is how Kane learned how to do simple cooking dishes.

Vanos, on the other hand made no move whatsoever. "Well, ma jolie. My name is Vanos." And there he stood on his hind legs, then slowly bowed his head low. "And I would be honored if you would grace me with your name."

This Isn't My Idea of Fun [Cherise & Karril ]

A pinkish, strangely calming wave hit the area. It was something people who used support pokemon would recognize instantly. A Heal Pulse. A Gardevoir walked in shortly after, a low shrill accompanying it, signalling others of her position. A couple of seconds passed and a Vaporeon stood beside her, softly dousing the remaining flames after the Greninja worked them.

And not long after that, a familiar face arrived on the scene. “Karril? Is that you?” The ranger stepped in from behind a few bushes himself. “Did you start this fire?” His boots snapped the twigs from under him, trying to go through nature. This was the bad thing about going off the road; getting back on it.

Karril’s arms were crossed as he watched his Greninja begin to douse the fire quickly spreading through the trees. The water tossed bits of lights as droplets froze in midair, the cold mountain climate turning the liquid into ice within seconds, and the rainbow of color flashed a faint purple as the Gardevoir neared. Karril’s hands dropped to his side as he turned to watch the pokemon, followed by a Vaporeon, helped Greninja with the last of the flames. He heard Kane’s voice come, muffled, from a group of bushes, and he wondered if it was okay to smack the guy with a snowball. He was just bending over, fingers turn red from cold as he gathered up the snow with the Ranger pushed his way through the branches.

The large frog nodded a thanks to the smaller water type before looking up at Karril, the same, unsurprised look still on its face. Karril shot them all a look. “Why do you just all assume it’s me? I’m not stupid all the time, you know? It was that girl, Cherise! Or, well, whatever she found. But not me!” Greninja gave a mocking snort and Karril tossed the snowball in his direction.

As the Water types doused the flames, the cause of the fire quickly scurried as far away from them as possible… which led straight to where Cherise was now standing. The fox hid behing her legs, except that her bright colored fur made her stick out like a sore thumb.

Cherise stepped back, crouching down in front of the small kit and attempted to take off the knot around her neck when she heard her name being called. Her head shot up with a scoff, “M-Me?! How is it my faullt? Is that what you do? Blame and accuse people of things they didn’t do?”

The Vulpix shrunk itself down to the snow, her tail wagging slowly as she patiently waited for the girl to finish taking off the rope around her neck. She didn’t fully understand what the humans were talking about, but at least these ones seemed nicer than the ones she had been with before.

"Both of you settle down. Whatever happened is now finished. The fire is out. That is all that matters." Trying to keep the arguments to a minimum, super ranger Kane stepped closer to Karril and Cherise. First up was Karril though.

"Excuse me, Karril. But did you just call yourself stupid? I would not say you are. Incredibly clumsy, yes. Possibly. Maybe more so than your average person. But not stupid... Not particularly adept at using common sense either. But that does not fall under the category of being stupid. Yet. So you are not. Stupid. Not stupid. Yes."

Well that was a whole lot of wasted time to just try to tell Karril he wasn't stupid. Next was Cherise. Cherise? That name sounded oddly familiar now that he thought about it. Turning to the girl in question, he glanced down at the ... what was that?

Kane closed his eyes and formed a 'book' in his mind. Shifting through it's pages, he eventually reached the one he was looking for.

"Ah. A Vulpix." But... wait a second. Those colors... they weren't- OH. Of course. "That is a very... special Vulpix you have there, Cherise. It would be wise to treasure it. You do not see one of them everyday, after all." A smile reached the ranger's face. The only other pokemon that fell into that one's special category was his Lopunny's.

... Today is a good day.
