In his defense, my mother had/has a serious hoarding problem and it could be literally anything from the dark room (as in photography but also creepy as hell and forever dark)/present room in the basement. I also never understood the whole go look for Christmas presents thing in sitcoms, it's like, no, that room is terrifying and also a manifestation of parental neuroses galore, I try very hard to pretend it doesn't exist. Christmas, yeah sure great lovely, I'm just trying to avoid the wrath of the thing that unlives in that room (there might have been a minor gas leak that vented through a cracked window, just enough carbon monoxide to cause slight horror and fear, not enough to kill anyone). No I'm not going to Go In There and Shake A Box At Random. Also, even odds it was silverware my mom inherited from someone (9 full sets of silver when they finally moved out).
