       “ you’re embarrassing me! i’m not a tactician yet! . . .one day though! ” he huffed some, trying to straighten his hair from where robin had ruffled it. “ i haven’t done anythng today, honestly. i was gonna do some reading and maybe. . .er. . . nevermind! just some reading! ” he had to go shopping for robin today ; best not spill that surprise.

     “Prince Marc!” 

   There he is! Irene had begun to fear the worst when they lost sight of the younger royal in the ambush– It had not been the Risen to raid their little camp for once, but bandits desperate for supplies in this rapidly deteriorating world. The children had escaped with their lives and the majority of what little they possessed, but…

   When they found a new safehouse, Marc had been missing. Cursing herself for having missed such an obvious issue – Father never would have – Irene had volunteered to find him herself. It was only fair, seeing as it’s her duty to keep Lucina and Marc safe… And, well… He hadn’t been sitting in the abandoned barn when they did a head count. That failure rests solely on her shoulders. Willing Faith to slow to a stop, the girl dismounts and jogs to catch up with the boy. 

     “I’m s-so sorry, are you alright?!” She pauses, giving him a closer once-over. He didn’t seem injured, but… “I was so worried– I can’t believe I let you out of my sight for even an instant…! Come on, let’s get you to safety.”

     ashamedly enough, he’d been asleep when the ambush had happened. half asleep and clutching the few things the prince had snatched from ylissitol, he’d barely had time to get his bearings. it had been hard to break away from the group to grab the one thing he truly couldn’t bear to leave behind in the camp.

     he stood in front of irene in bare feet, hair sticking up in sharp tufts as he clutched his treasure closer to his narrow, heaving chest. the treasure itself appeared to be. . .a battered and patched book, pages dogeared and bookmarks sticking out every which way.

        “ i’m okay! i’m okay, you don’t have to worry. ” he clutched the book tighter, almost as if he feared the cavalier would take it away from him. 

         “ no one saw me. i couldn’t leave this behind, though. . . ”

    The green haired woman jumped slightly at her child   suddenly beside her, but she relaxed after a moment,   hand to her heart.     “Oh- Eirlys, you scared me!..And..uhh..” Shiori trailed   off a bit, unsure how to tell the mechanistic in training   that she had encountered one of his new-fangled    ‘puppets’ and had punted it all the way to Nohr when   she saw it patrolling the hallway last night.

    She gave a sheepish glance off, trying not to look her   child in the eyes. “I’m fine! I just had a bad night is all!   Aha..ha..”

      they tilted their head at how she jumped and the way she glanced away, tilting their head some before shrugging and deciding not to question it. they had noticed the damaged puppet when they had woken, but it hadn’t been enough for them to worry -- it looked like the puppet had simply fallen and damaged itself on the floor.

     they did reach out to pat her cheek, giving a little smile. their mother was so strange and funny to be around -- leaving their deeprealm and being around her was so wonderful.

       “ well, that’s not good! do you need something to help you sleep? i could probably mix something up, i definitely know i’ve read something about sleeping tonics before. . . ”
