adam's love for food and how it connects to his love for other people (or his direction as a character)
ok so we all know that adam loves food (fun fact: he loves cake in the same way dean loves pie!!!) it's also noticeable how in each episode he's in food is always shown, especially when it's shown to put emphasis on certain specific plot points or to show the relationship between characters.
4x19: his character introduction is set in a diner, wherein (ghoul)adam eats a fairly decent meal using utensils; meat and (presumably) mashed potatoes, his usual. we also see that dean is ready to kill adam (clearly showcasing dean's inability to accept or conceptualize that john would treat one of his sons the way he did with adam) and it's like.., not even adam.... it's a ghoul taking control of his body. it's later revealed that the adam they know is Totally Dead and whatnot, and the reason why it's called jump the shark is because jumping the shark means when a media gets too far ahead of it's original premise or core (the 2 brothers suddenly having a Secret Third Half-Brother) and like,, the whole episode practically meant to shock the viewer while adding more depth between the 2 winchester brothers. that was it for adam
and then in 5x18 when they need a michael vessel adam once again appears, this time having more context to him than just Secret Third Half-brother. after he talks to the winchesters about being family and whatnot and is basically forced to stay in there he's seen eating a sandwich (well they made him 2 sandwiches. wow they're so thoughtful) (presumably ham and cheese...?) and it's like, way different than the first thing he ate. he looks inside the sandwich and doesn't even finish at least one of them! he tries to get out and is stopped by sam (the brother who interacted with him the most in 4x19)
this time it's something he eats with his hands, finally having control of his own body and the first instance wherein we see him (try and) make decisions on his own (and it's also revealed that he had to make his own food due to living circumstances,) until he's like. deceived into being bait!!!
and that happens while/after eating a burger. (with beers displayed!) and it's like, wow it's almost as if another brother has the exact same taste in food. it's meant to represent how being connected to the winchesters caused his pain and how it eventually became the basis for his possession as michael (also he was sooo ready to become michael's vessel. wow) he's alone, and while it may seem the winchesters do have his back it's not actually felt and seen that way
and THEN in the next episode where he comes back he's at a diner again!!! with michael this time!!! (it's a date!!!) and he's seen eating a lot of unhealthy food (burgers like last time, fries, pizza,. to which michael says "you know that stuff will kill you, right?" ) and this is right after he gets out of the cage!! he's never been so free and he decides to spend that freedom eating whatever he wants and loves!!! and michael just. easily takes a french fry from his plate and it's like adam shares his love towards michael and that they are both so comfortable within each other's presence :) (and i think what makes this even better is how it's made clear that adam doesn't need to eat, he just wants to! because it tastes good!!! he wants to be with michael because he just loves him and not solely for any sort of functional benefit he may gain!!!!!! and him saying that is what makes michael say "you'll be my guide!" meaning he's taken an interest in it and wants adam to help him explore!!! a being who can't/doesn't need to eat!!!!)
also a mutual of mine pointed this out but he also salts the pizza here 😭😭😭. and it's like, woah he can do wahtever he wants because michael's there with him like literally!! he wants ot have the most he can even if it seems too much!!! and it's very different than the first time because this time not only is it all the food he likes but also it's once again food that he eats with his hands!!! he is very much in control of him choosing to love michael. also i'm also gonna note that he decided to go on a date with michael with the few money he had left. okay. being with michael is so so important to him and this whole scene alone shows it
and when it cuts back to michael and adam again there's cake! his favorite!! and then lilith shows up in order to converse with michael (she even gets a taste of the cake!) and then he pushes it away and it's like.. transitioning from the perspective of adam to their relationship to the perspective of michael to their relationship, wherein the hint of uncertainty is there because she's talked to him about his father once again!!
im going to talk about the 2 diners in a future post but here is it for now.
or maybe it's just food i don't know
