[ID: A series of tweets by Jason Hickel (verified) that read as follows "It is impossible to separate the history of capitalism from colonialnd the European slave trade. They are co-extensive. Colonialism was the mechanism by which most of the world was roped into the Europe-centered capitalist economy. We need to face up to this fact. We like to think that capitalism is about 'markets'. But markets existed for thousands of years before capitalism. The history of capitalism is defined not by markets but by appropriation. This can be difficult for peopl in the global North to grasp. But for most of the global South, for the better part of 550 years, the encounter with capitalism was experienced as invasion, genocide, enslavement and dispossession. End ID]
About to fuck around and become unknowable!
the social norm of āits your ethical responsibility to be constantly aware of, and angry about, every bad thing happening in the world at all times, even if you canāt possibly do anything about itā is possibly the best way I can imagine to create burnout and cynicism and depression in a population, so good job guys
This improves the scene immeasurably by shifting it from an everyday occurrence in a world where spontaneous musical numbers are a normal, expected thing, to a bunch of guys being totally and unapologetically Like That.

The best way to gauge how much a white person is actually working on their racism is to see how they treat a black person who makes them mad or uncomfortable or that they think isnāt being respectable. Even the most āanti racistā seeming white people will let that facade slip once they come across a black person they think isnāt respectable or that makes them mad.
When white people come across a black person that wonāt coddle their feelings in the way society has taught white people to expect, thatās when their true colors come out. Thatās how you learn the most about where a white person is at in the process of unlearning racism and checking themselves for unconscious bias.
