++ The Forgotten Fyu ++
Here go a fyu photos we didn’t get a chance to post on Tumblr (although they were on our other social media) from previous photo shoots we did. The overwhelming majority of them are from Christmas since we did an ugly xmas sweater shoot for the holiday season. The last photo is of Iya, a student who battled lupus and cancer while in college. Her tattoos tell a story of her struggles and perseverance.

“Fyuer generalizations of women”
Hey guys, it’s been awhile but here’s a brand new discussion for us to get back into the swing of things. Question: why do people generalize, stereotype, etc.?
No one on God’s green Earth wants to be put into a box. We all know that humans are multi-faceted beings and no two people are exactly alike. This simple understanding opposes the idea of generalizations, especially about women. Women are incredibly dynamic and generalizations are a lazy way of restricting them.

++ Photojournalism Cuba • Vol.4: People ++
In our last installment of this series we'd like to highlight & give a HUGE thanks to all the Cubans who showed us love during our trip. From Barbara and her amazing hospitality, to Rosa at Hotel Sevillá & her wealth of information, to the young boys Alex & his central park squad [they gave us a millennial view of Cuba/history/and culture -- and why they believe racism is like a drop of water there compared to the ocean of it here in the US], to José & his help getting us to Varadero, and everyone else who made an impact.
Special shout-out to Laitan & Temi for setting up the plays. 🌍🛫 If you're a black globetrotter looking to visit a spanish-speaking country, make sure you put Cuba on your list, the people there will show you sooo much #love, you won't believe it. Shout-out to everyone who repped #TheFyu... [⚠️p.s. funny story about the couple kissing in the photo. If anyone's interested to know, just feel free to ask & we'll share 😅] ...."theres no commUNITY without unity"

Photojournalism Cuba • Vol.3: Artwork
There's a healthy population of visual artists centered in Havana. Some are award-winning legends such as Clemente Segrera [pictured 1st], while others are up-and-coming prodigies quickly making a name for themselves. One common thread among much of the art we saw was a social awareness and commentary, primarily about the global black struggle and lack of representation. White and Afro-Cubans both celebrate melanin in very outspoken and visual ways.
Lastly, the Cuban gov't, through statues and sculptures, consistently recognizes their revolutionary leaders such as José Martí and distinguished gentlemen such as author Enrique Varona [as well as more obvious contemporary figures: Fidel Castro & Che Guevara]. Plus various statues as gifts from other nations also populate public spaces in Cuba, as you can see from the samurai statue [courtesy of Japan] at a popular park near Pena Pobre St.

++ Photojournalism Cuba • Vol.2.2: Buildings ++
Check out the world famous Floridita if you're ever in beautiful sunny Cuba. Another interesting thing we noticed is how there's a Chinatown EVERYWHERE in the world, lol.
Lastly, tourism is obviously a huge staple in the Cuban economy, so many Cubans take pride in their hotels & the aesthetics. However, there's a growing number of Cubans in Havana (some of whom we met) who absolutely appreciate the fact that tourists would rather stay at an AIRBNB because that benefits the people directly instead of a hotel (which the govt owns and profits from).

++ Photojournalism Cuba • Vol.2: Buildings ++
When we 1st touched down in Cuba we felt a distinctively European vibe when it came to the architecture. Later we learned that Cubans were colonized by Spain which obviously influenced Cuba in many ways, especially architecturally & aesthetically.

++ Photojournalism Cuba • Vol.1: Vehicles ++
• Many people asked us if Cuba's really stuck in the past due to all the classic cars typically seen in travel photos. Our answer: NO.
Cuba deliberately chooses to maintain older vehicles and re-create the parts instead of importing newer cars en masse, although there are newer imported vehicles driven in #Cuba as well (mainly Asian).
