I really hate to be doing this, but after much thought, I’ve decided to drop Juliet. A few of you might’ve heard me talking about it for a while, since the muse hasn’t been quite stable for the past couple of weeks. On top of that, I had already written a character map coming into this rp, so it was as if I had already finished her story before I got the chance to write it on the dash. That being said, you can find me on Jasung if you’d like to plot and write together.

The days started to blend in with one another, as if she could not think of anything to do in this house full of cameras and wandering maids and bodyguards. Instead, Juliet was wandering around her own home with loose clothing, hair in complete disarray and her expression was far from lively. With a mug of coffee, she sat down in the study with her computer open, like there was something important to do. Particularly referring to the USB of footage. The object danced between her fingers as she thought for a moment. The person that saw it was doing pretty well enough to bypass Hwang Tech’s firewalls, so it made Juliet curious enough to set the USB down and start typing. Maybe she could trace the IP address of that person and find out what they were doing in the surveillance.

“Miss Juliet?” one of the maids came to the door, calling her name gently. “Is there anything you might need?”

She briefly glanced up then looked around her. Did she need anything? She seemed to just be at a loss of what she needed lately, always calling one of her baomu for something that they had decided to come in to see if she needed anything every once in a while. A check of her mug. “I think I need another mug of coffee, but stronger. Make it black please.” She took a sip of her mug and set it down with a nod. “Maybe put a shot of espresso in it.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Finding a specific IP address was not a simple task to do when someone had managed to get into the surveillance like that. It was likely that they were piggybacking another computer network and using their IP address, or scrambling their own so it would not be so easy to trace. She worked away for what seemed to be minutes, like a cat chasing its own tail to realize that the mouse was elsewhere to be caught. The only thing she could do was to send a message of sorts, hoping the person would not jump elsewhere to avoid contact with her or anything.

Of course, Juliet. What kind of message was a simple ‘hello’? It was dumb and she knew it, but she wanted to just catch their attention. After all, a riddle could be meaningless, no matter how much she loved them.

HWANG CONGLOMERATE

The Hwang Conglomerate consists of seven companies, which Hwang Myung Yool has been building up for several decades. All of these have contributed to the family wealth in some way, though he had already been setting up locations in both China and South Korea over 12 years ago. At this time, Juliet was new to South Korea and the businesses he had were gaining enough profit to make the move to South Korea an easygoing one. However, that meant that the Beijing locations he had shut down. 

Under the conglomerate are the following businesses:

Scientific research lab

Importing/Exporting trade company

Cybersecurity/weapons factory* - Previously the weapons factory had been a private location up until 2010, before it was moved to another factory located in Yeoksam, Gangnam-gu. It was registered as a legal gunsmith factory, but the public was skeptical about it. In 2012, the cybersecurity division was built up on the same lot, thus creating a front to cut back on suspicion of illegal activity.

There’s been a number of changes in Juliet’s life, so I’ll be writing out this agenda as a reference:

i. Masquerade Ball: February 1st

Juliet’s father dies at the hand of the sniper, after bleeding out to death.

ii. Following the ball: February 2nd - onward

A wake has been set up at the Hwang Residence in Yeoksam, Gangnam-gu. All business partners, friends, relatives and those who are close with the Hwang family have received an obituary notice, read out loud at the gates since it’s bad luck to bring these notices in the house, so they’ll be hung on the outside of the outhouse. Funeral rites will be according to Korean style instead of Chinese, since there’s a chance that not too many people will be as understanding of the Chinese rites for a Korean man.

Visiting hours are every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. All visitors will be subject to walk through a metal detector, so all weapons must be left at home. After all, it’s a funeral. Visitors will then be personally escorted by one of the bodyguards to the visitation. A large room next door to the shrine room to pay your respects to Hwang Myung Yool will be where beef and pork head meat and alcohol will be served. Juliet will dressed in a black sangbok. Outside of visiting hours, Juliet will not be accepting any visitors unless it’s deliveries (though a certain someone has persisted on staying longer than intended).

iii. Alone again: February 8th

It was the Lunar New Year on the 8th, and that also meant a three-day holiday, even though Juliet is already currently on mourning leave. On this day, Woobin came to see her to comfort her but the topic turned sour and the two broke up.

iv. The Last Will: February 22nd

With the conglomerate having a vacant seat for the Chairman, Juliet has attended a meeting with Yuri ( @yurixmi ) regarding her father’s Last Will. This included the vice-chairman and the caretakers of each of his businesses, in which the rules state that Juliet has 10 days to determine if she wishes to take over her father’s role as the successor, or pass it on to someone else.

v. The return: February 26th

Juliet is back to work for the weekend, this time working night shifts instead of day shifts. But due to the amount of stress on her mind that has also reflected in her performance at work during that shift, her supervisor has informed her that she must stay home a bit longer or seek counselling services in order to cope with her father’s death. Her supervisor is still not aware of her real identity. She went home the next morning after her shift, taking a nap prior to preparing herself for the next round of visitations.

vi. Burying the dead: February 29th

Ahead of Korea’s Independence Movement Day on the 1st, the funeral burial will take place on this day. Myung Yool will be cremated and his urn will be placed in his coffin then buried. He has requested of this in his will.

vii. Packing up: March 2nd

She has less than 24 hours to make her decision, so she will try to return to work one last time. Unfortunately, her mother had come for the funeral and the Last Will meeting, and now wants Juliet dead to take on the spot.

I’m sorry I haven’t really been here. I’ve been tired in trying to catch up on dashes, and readjust my sleeping schedule. I don’t know who else is still around in terms of threads I owe, but even if we have a thread going on or don’t have one, please like this if you want to plot? I need some new stuff and a schedule post will be going up when I’m not tired and I have time to sit here.

It was outside of funeral visiting hours at this point. Even though her boyfriend came over during this time, he wasn’t exempted from the rule. She didn’t look like she was in the right state to expect anyone, to let anyone see her like this. The red qipao was ready to be tossed off for the sake of the sangbok for the funeral services, but here he was, coming over with a bouquet of red roses. On any other occasion, flowers would cheer her up. But this was a funeral. Her father was gone. 

She wasn’t ready to talk to him. Not now, not ever.

It was a quiet exchange on her end, letting one of the baomu to take the bouquet instead of herself, because she didn’t want to touch it. She didn’t want to accept it. Even when she thought that he was sincere to come over and check up on her, through a matter of time, Hyun Joong - no, Woobin’s true intentions were unveiled.

He wanted to know if she was working with her father against the Black Lotus gang. He wanted to clear up the rumours that had been floating around.

Her cheeks were red with anger, stomping over to the baomu to grab the bouquet and throw it back in his face. “How dare you! How dare you come over here and think you can just ask me something like that, you fucking asshole!” She didn’t bother to stop herself from crying in front of him, to let him know that what he was saying and doing hurt her. “My father died because of your gang’s stupid nonsense! All of these gang wars and our fucking Prime Minister is dead thanks to you! Do you honestly think I could’ve done that to you, after I fought with my father so many times just for him to accept that we were dating? And you have the balls to come in here and try to cheer me up when you’re really going to ask me if I was dumb enough to go behind your back and do that to you? Fuck you, Kim Hyun Joong,” she growled out. 

Her shouts were loud enough to draw security to come, but after hearing what she had to say, they faltered and kept at a fair distance. It was a lover’s spat, but he was a gang member and that was more than enough reason to stay close by.

“I tried for you. I tried every single thing to make us happy, even if I did find you calling me your Cherry a little weird at first. But I’m not happy!” she pointed at herself, “Does it look like I’ve been able to be happy knowing that we’re buying protection from my boyfriend’s gang and in the end, everyone still got fucked over? My father is dead. If I had to decide between you and him over who was going to die, I’d pick you.” She was tired. Exhausted from these past couple of days. Being all alone in a house full of maids and security guards, while her father’s lawyer waited for her to be able to read his final Will.

“My father was right. No matter what any of us do to ask for protection, none of you will ever do anything to help us. The country has always belonged to the people, but you gangs ruin it all!” Even when he talk to her more nicely about it, she shoved him off. “We’re through! Now get the fuck out of my house!” She didn’t look back, walking away and letting security ensure that he was out of her house and outside the gates. But she didn’t care anymore. Her heart lost all sense of feeling for him.

She had a funeral to attend to.

💐A Grand Affair

       He gave a polite bow to the man when he took his leave, that practiced small smile and gentle features accompanied by a relaxed demeanor. Never to give away any real sentiments when facing men such as his girl friend’s father.

The soft click of heels and her voice brought a more genuine look on his face and he moved forth towards her with that bouquet held up to her “ I Would say yes you kept me waiting but now that I look at you I know it was worth it. As gorgeous as ever my Cherry. For you” he presented her the bouquet and offered her his hand. Tonight was going to be unlike any other

He could feel it.

Upon reaching the venue and stepping into the large hall he let his eyes drift over the array out outfits and flowing gowns, faces distorted my masks- in a pleasant sense. He had his own half- mask on already and turned to give Juliet a smile “ It’s up to you to not let me have more than two glasses tonight. Now shall we dance?”

She smiled at him and took the bouquet gratefully with an acceptance of his hand. Even after the seven months that they’ve been dating, she sometimes didn’t understand the concept of him calling her his Cherry, but she took it without complaints. With a goodbye to her father and a brief glance to see what each of them were wearing - just in the event that they did run into each other - she and Hyun Joong were off to the ball. It wasn’t a Cinderella story at all, stepping into the venue after a security check and heads didn’t turn like any girl would’ve expected out of a fairytale. Instead, there was all this glamour for the sake of the SPD who had worked out to do ‘well’ for the Lotte World bombing. Still, she ignored it all, because she was just here to have fun and with her date, no less. 

“I think the best thing to do is keep you to one drink tonight, and you keep me at no more than five,” she teased. After all, he was the one driving, and depending on the alcohol he got, it could do more damage than just having one. “Let’s.” She tugged lightly to have him towards the dance floor, curtsying lightly then positioning her arms on him, ready for him to guide their dance.

Food for the Soul

Juliet is a lover of food and it’s no surprise by the amount of times she’s goes out for food. While many people of her status might seem the type to go for expensive restaurants, she doesn’t mind have much limitations. She enjoys it with a cup of coffee, a glass of wine or with a milkshake from her favourite café.

i. JUNK FOOD OR NO JUNK 

Juliet loves junk food in moderation. The perfect date junk food would be burgers and a beer, or even going out for a simple meal at a Korean restaurant run by an ahjumma. Just wrapping up your meat in a leaf and stuff it, though she doesn’t eat a lot of beef despite how much she’s able to pay for it. In other words, there’s no real limitations on junk food.

ii. SWEET TOOTH

Juliet has a really big sweet tooth. On top of a cup of coffee and a croissant, she loves marbled cheesecake and oreo ice cream cake that she gets from Artemis’ café ( @mi-artemis ). Sometimes, if she’s feeling like it, she’ll get an oreo sundae. It doesn’t matter what time of the year she is, but she will eat any of these sweets. Korean sweets aren’t exempted, however. The one thing that she’s never allowed to run out of - and the maids even check - is Oreo O’s cereal. She likes trying out recipes that use oreos, but hot treats or treats that cut out the taste of oreos are an absolute no for her.

iii. INTERNATIONAL FOODS

She’s open to eating international foods, though the most common ones that she eats are Korean and Chinese food, especially those most native to Beijing. The maids typically ask Juliet and her father just what they feel like eating for dinner and will do their best to cook that dish for them. She’s not picky towards having one or the other, but would be willing to try the other dish that’s been made out of her dad’s preferences. But give her something gross like beondaegi and she’ll be grossed out.

iv. COOKING OR BE SERVED

Juliet isn’t completely helpless when it comes to food. Though her maids do cook the meals, sometimes she does cook with the maids to learn about how to make dishes. She thinks it’d be helpful for the day that she’d have trouble with finances - she figures it more of a ‘just in case’ situation - and she won’t be worrying about how to fend for herself. Usually, she does get served food.

the real fun was in not knowing who the other was until they were dead. everyone had masks on their entire life – or, at least, jin did, and so did a bunch of other psychopaths he knew and loved, like family almost. hell, even his ‘family’ had their own fair share of facades and charades, like a goddamn political circus. and he loved the irony in it, too, so much so that he didn’t much mind sharing a few dances or two that weren’t with his usual partner. besides, he wanted qian to rest (though he hoped no one else would hold her hand). 

“it would be my pleasure,” he answered, taking her hand, and this time leading her instead to the dance floor. at least the songs were slow; her dress seemed to heavy. he gave himself three guesses to try and figure out who this was, and who was foolish enough to go to a masquerade ball chock-full of assholes in high society. the dance was initiated easily, though, and jin found it in him to give a small, nervous (and practiced!) smile. he even mimicked the tone of piss-poor pussies when they tried to reason with him when they knew full well he was going to kick their balls in. “i – uh…have you been dancing long? your dress looks…uhm…h-heavy. it looks great, though! you look great.” and a small laugh, to make it more convincing: “sorry, i…i’m nervous. about this whole thing, y’know?”

The male accepted her offer and in classic fashion, she was led to the dance floor and dancing once more with yet another stranger. Maybe she should find her father to dance with next, if she can find him in this crowd, no matter how distinguishable his clothing were or not. She didn’t pay attention, however, to that smile that he was giving, mostly out of exasperation and exhaustion to just leave the party, were they not held at gunpoint to stay in the parameters of the building. He sounded like a nervous wreck, to be quite honest. “The dress is hardly the problem. I’d rather throw off these shoes, if this dress wasn’t so long to deal with.” It was too beautiful to just hem according to her height and flats didn’t do so well in making the best shoes to dance in for a ball, given that they had zero support for her feet. She was going to need to burn everything when she got home after this. 

“I’m not nervous at all,” she admitted. “I’m more tired of this. We’re only here because the Black Lotus gang are the targets here. As long as you’re not one of the gang members or someone siding with them, then there’s nothing to worry about. There’s food and water, so we don’t have to worry about starving to death here.” She was at the potential of losing her boyfriend at this rate, but in all honesty, being in a gang was all too much of a problem. She liked her boyfriend, but didn’t love him enough... to help. Not like he would ask her for any help for tonight.

“Hyung Joong, please” he flashed the man a polite smile, his body language reasonable humble as he awaited his Cherry’s arrival. Had it been just up to him he would have had a maid guide him to her room and probably ask Juliet to not fuss over make up, that she was naturally made as a thing of beauty. “ I actually did” he patiently answers, “The property business is ever growing and I see events such as this as a good way to make new contacts. Adding to that my Agency’s CEO was indeed very insistent I attended as the representative of the Company too” a small nod and a telepathic call out to Juliet to come down already, he had been looking forward to the event, perfectly unique and full of opportunities  that he could exploit for the benefit of so many people. But mostly himself.

Myung Yool could only nod, though he wasn’t too interested in Woobin-- Hyunjoong’s background that propelled him high enough to receive such an invite. “Good. I’ll follow along sometime shortly after you two leave. I still have some matters to attend to before I can go out tonight.” It wasn’t too late for him to leave regardless, and it wasn’t like the Prime Minister was going to notice that he was going to be late. He took his time, excusing himself to go on ahead, since he had an appointment starting shortly, but mentioned he would be done by the time that the two were about to go, so that he could see how his daughter looked. Juliet, on the other hand, was a bit fussy about the way she looked for the ball, having to resort between putting her hair up or not, but eventually decided with the latter option of keeping her raven locks in waves draping over her shoulders. The skirt of her gown in her hands, she made her way down the stairs gracefully. “Hyun Joong-ah,” she called. “Did I leave you waiting?” Hopefully she didn’t take too long, so they could head out to the ball and make it there on time.

She was feeling on the nice side of things - a little more than usual - that she’s already asked the maids to get the orders of everyone around the house. That includes the cook staff, the cleaning staff and the guards, though she’s never quite understood why her father’s hired so many people to be around their home. It’s like there’s no sense of privacy, but at the same time, there’s privacy where it feels like some of the staff aren’t even there. 

“Coffee for everyone, plus four marbled cheesecakes and an Oreo ice cream cake, please,” she tells the maid. 

Oreo has never tasted so good, that when she got a hold of Oreo cereal, she’s made sure the maids buy it every time they run out. It happens at least every two weeks at the most, but that’s besides the point, with no one bothering to question her reasoning behind eating ice cream cake in February. Her taste buds just tend to run that way. But despite whether she knows the staff or not, they’re still subject to wandering through the metal detector and a thorough search of their person to ensure they’re not carrying weapons. She’s already lost one person, perhaps another one as well, but she’s going to leave the limit there so it doesn’t get any further. A part of her doesn’t mind that it’s him of all people, coming to drop it off. He’s been coming over for a while now, with Juliet glad that visiting hours are over for the day and she needs some time to relax. This is her moment to relax from the fact that there’s a funeral in progress in one of the large rooms dedicated as a shrine for the funeral.

With nothing but an oversized shirt and the heater to keep her body warm, she’s wandering through the house in the direction of the kitchen as she calls for one of the maids, “Baomu, is the coffee here yet?” she asks, wandering past the front entrance.

It was like greeting a body without a soul. Without a mind to think, as she was curled up underneath the sheets. Her raven hair splayed everywhere, but she didn’t really talk to anyone, and she had requested some time off after the event of the masquerade ball, to cope with what had happened to her father. 

She never answered any messages these days. Not even a call, or anything of the sort because communication from her had become null.

The Lunar New Year was spent with her wearing her long red qipao, and a smaller scale of the original meal for this kind of day. Instead, she wasn’t hungry and excused herself from the table to wander out into the garden outside, guards standing several feet away to ensure her safety, since being out in the open was its own dangerous situation.

Did Juliet care? 

Not one bit.

In a house full of maids and guards, she was all by herself. She wasn’t taking any visitors, and she certainly wasn’t going to be talking to anyone. Not for a little while until she could recover. A maid came out to set her jacket over her shoulders, as the heiress sat on the bench in the middle of the pagoda. “Hong..”

The maid looked at her in questioning.

“紅包拿來?” But it’s in a different context that she’s asking for them. She’s asking for the maid to retrieve them from the wooden box she has prepared in her room. It’s usually a child saying that to their parents, but in this case... who does she turn to? Not her greedy mother, who’s probably conniving behind her back at this moment. She can’t... see her as family. 

What is family?

The maid retrieves the box and returns a moment later, extending it out to her. 

Instead of taking it, she gestured for the maid to follow her as she approaches each of the guards and the maids. With a deep bow, she presented them with a red envelope. 

“Gong Xi Fa Cai.”

She couldn’t believe it. Just moments ago, her father was complaining about how hot it was, shouting to everyone that this was not the life that anyone wanted. That if they knew who was in the Black Lotus gang, to oust them right there while the people took back what was theirs: the city. The capital. Or rather, their nation. But in that he took to rant about these things was more than enough to get the sniper’s attention and zone in on the chaebol. 

Juliet’s eyes are red, watching as a gunshot rang out, loud enough that anyone could detect where it was coming from, but the commotion that Hwang Myung Yool had avoided any chance of paying attention.

A scream left the raven-haired woman’s lips, picking up her dress as she ran through the crowd, fighting her way towards her father. “Daddy!” she screamed. He had already fallen on the floor, the bullet wound aimed on the left side of his chest and his mask had also fallen to his side. She had tears streaming down her cheeks, pushing aside all the fact that her makeup would smear - she was wearing a mask - that people were looking and watching as she fell to her knees and immediately applied pressure to his wound. Her rouge-stained lips quivered, searching for life in his eyes. “Daddy... Daddy... please... please stay with me...”

“J-Juliet...”

“Daddy... it’s going to be okay...” Her head raised to the crowd, her voice shouting through the hall despite the cracks in her tone. “Somebody help me! Someone!”

It’s not fun and games anymore. It’s not a grand celebratory event held by the Prime Minister and his wife. Now, it was the work of a puppet show and if a doll didn’t do the right thing, then all hell would break loose and Fate would have their fun. If they knew just who was in the gang just be able to open the database, make everyone take off their masks and kill off whoever they deemed was the enemy? Instead, Juliet and her father were trapped in here by her boyfriend’s gang’s existence. Their dealings with the Prime Minister and his wife. This was definitely the lowest. If something happened to her father, she never would be able to forgive herself for not being able to do anything.

Sure, she had a portable server installed on her phone, but what good would that do? With their technology, she probably only had two minutes at the most before they could probably kick her off. Plus, her relationship with her boyfriend.... didn’t seem deep enough to care about what happened to the gang. If anything, she wanted it to sink so that she could just have a peaceful life. Wasn’t that selfish of her? Maybe. She sipped on another glass of water to keep herself hydrated, hardly noticing that the people by her side were back on the floor for another dance. 

She should find another partner, if she had just noticed.

The room seemed so suffocating like this, with all of the people all around them forced to dance while there were bloody sights all around them. Even when the music stopped, she wanted to just toss off her shoes or go out for a smoke, but there were too many people and the way that the Syndicate had warned them about the safety precautions left zero chance of taking a breather. Not that she would mind disposing her shoes for tonight, however, but her gown would drag across the floor as a result. But her last dance partner was gone, and even a drink of water hadn’t done much to calm how heated it was in the large hall. Where was Woobin anyways?

But Juliet didn’t have much time to think about it, to wonder or look where he was, because it felt like the music had only just stopped to start again, and she needed to find a partner. Everyone was fighting for their survival, and her hands reach out to the nearest male to extend out her hand, the other holding her gown from dragging, as well as out of proper mannerisms. “Would you like to dance, sir?”
