“Who’s the real you? The person who did something awful, or the one who’s horrified by the awful thing you did? Is one part of you allowed to forgive the other?”

I’d love to relax but it’s just not realistic
THE MANDALORIAN Chapter 15: The Believer

@preempire liked this post for a starter (because terrible life decisions)
It hadn’t been easy, finding a way off Morak once Mando and his crew left. The Empire had chosen it as a secret refinery for a reason, after all. It was a planet with very little traffic––except for the unsavory kind that knew to go there and he needed to stay as far away from them as possible for survival. What’s more, there were very few temptations to draw any more respectable or less Imperial ships to the jungle planet.
When he finally did manage to catch a ship stopping over, he negotiated passage––and isn’t he glad the New Republic didn’t find out about all of his funds or he would have been shit out of luck––and then he was on his way, finally.
He isn’t going to complain for the difficulty or the delay, though. Mando and that marshal lady had given him a break and more of one than he deserved. Sure, he blew up the refinery, got rid of the rhydonium, and took out those sick bastards who still thought the Empire was a good idea, that tragedies like Burnin Konn were acceptable…
But that didn’t wipe away his past.
[ It didn’t banish the nightmares, the terrors. It just meant that maybe he got several hours of sleep instead of a couple here and there. ]
As he had waited on Morak, he had planned, tried to figure out the best place for a dead man to go. It had to be some planet where the New Republic wouldn’t pay too much attention to new arrivals or to its inhabitants in general… yet he didn’t want to get trapped on another world off the beaten path with no means of escape if the situation should demand.
Really, the first choice that came to mind seemed the best.
Tatooine.
Of course, when he had made that decision, he had fully expected that he would be a perfect stranger there, surrounded by other perfect strangers.
What he had not expected was to see the very one who assisted in his supposed death.
There’s the briefest moment of something not unlike panic as he sees that familiar shiny armor.
SHIT. Of all the people! Of all the planets! Him and his stupid luck! This is payback from the universe or the Force or whatever it is that determines when it’s time somebody gets what’s coming to them. He’s sure of it.
Would Mando be okay with seeing him? Would he be pissed? Was the deal that he was allowed to leave, provided Mando never had to see his ugly mug again? Was he supposed to have stayed on Morak? Dammit, why didn’t he ask for the terms of their agreement?
But then… Well. Even past his own racing thoughts, he can’t help but notice something seems… wrong, and it’s absolutely ridiculous the way his heart sinks at the thought.
Where’s the little green guy?
After several more moments of debate, he curses himself for a sap and starts toward the other.
He’ll just… figure out if the guy’s kid is okay, and then make an excuse to leave so he doesn’t overstay his welcome or Mando’s good will. That’s it. It’ll be fine, right?
Once he thinks he’s been spotted, he gives a wave and a nervous little smile.
“Yo! Mando! Never would’ve thought to cross paths with you here. Guess it’s a small galaxy, after all, huh?”
See? He wasn’t trying to bother the guy. Just… being sociable. That’s all.
