Crisis mode issue?? Nothings really a crisis… but about the CEO, last year this big Chinese company bought like 20% of Fantagio’s stock shares, so their CEO (Wei Jie) became co-CEO with Na Byungjun (the founder and CEO). A few months ago, Wei Jie’s company bought more of Fantagio (like 50%+), making Wei Jie have more “power.” And now Na Byungjun has been dismissed as CEO, so Wei Jie is the only CEO now.

Jk I just found out what happened

Wei Jie’s company (Gold Finance Group) owns 50.7% of Fantagio. At the most recent board meeting, Gold Finance decided to remove Na Byungjun without warning, which caused a lot of panic. Fantagio then set up an emergency meeting to try and stop this because they claimed that it was a one-sided affair (and hadn’t been discussed). Here’s more

So based on decisions in the emergency meeting, the strike will also mean that top radio stations (like KBS CoolFM and SBS PowerFM) will not be allowed to play Fantagio artists’ songs. (source)

There’s also a worry that, if Na Byungjun is not reinstated and that JC group remains in power, they may “sell” artists to different companies for profit. Current groups with contracts have measures to prevent against this meaning (I assume) 5urprise, Hello Venus, ASTRO, Surprise U, and Weki Meki, as well as contracted actors and actresses would all be safe at Fantagio minus some management changes until their contracts expire (the soonest of which is Hello Venus, I believe). However, for unsigned artists (trainees, possibly Ong Seongwu because it’s unclear if he has signed a contract with Fantagio for his post-Wanna One career), JC Group would not be restricted and could “sell” these trainees for profit. Side note: Ong Seongwu would be fine in Wanna One for the duration of his contract with YMC. The Fantagio debacle likely won’t affect him until after Wanna One, and then only if he doesn’t already have a contract with Fantagio. If he doesn’t already have a contract with Fantagio and JC Group get their way, Seongwu can still avoid issues if another company bought his contract (which is what I think is most likely to happen, given his popularity).

Side note: I’ve seen people say that Fantagio has at least 4 new acting trainees, so their “careers” as trainees would be affected.

Please remember that this affects more than just Fantagio’s artists.

This is a company with so many more employees than just their idols and actors. Fantagio isn’t just ASTRO or Weki Meki or Hello Venus, but a company full of so many great people who have all been treated like family by the artists, and who treat the artists like family. A big management change like this means a lot for employees who aren’t signed to contracts like the artists. If the strike doesn’t work and Na Byungjun isn’t reinstated, JC Group could fire literally everybody and hire new staff. Group’s managers could even change, meaning people like Noh Taeyoon (who has been with ASTRO since the start) could be kicked to the curb with a single decision. Please, please take into consideration that this is a lot bigger than something that affects only Fantagio’s artists.
