How to Find Verified International Buyers for Indian Spices (2026 Guide)
India's spice exports crossed USD 4.43 billion in FY 2025-26, moving to buyers in more than 150 countries. But finding a buyer and finding a verified buyer are two totally different problems — and that gap is where most first-time exporters lose money, time, or both.
Where demand is concentrated (FY 2025-26):
Top countries: USA (14%), China (12%), UAE (9%), Bangladesh (8%), Saudi Arabia (5%)
Top spices: Chili (27%), Cumin (12%), Spice Oils & Oleoresins (12%), Small Cardamom (9%)
Four mandatory registrations before any serious buyer takes you seriously:
IEC from DGFT
CRES from Spices Board of India (7–15 days processing, valid 3 years)
GST Registration
APEDA/FSSAI for processed products
Where to find genuine buyers:
Spices Board Buyer-Seller Meets — government-run, highly credible
Trade data platforms (Panjiva, Import Genius, Trademap.org) — show real customs import history
Trade fairs like Gulfood, Anuga, and SIAL
What USA and EU buyers expect. US buyers operate under FSVP with mandatory FDA registration and Salmonella testing. EU buyers enforce a pesticide residue limit of 0.01 mg/kg and cap ethylene oxide at 0.1 mg/kg — still the single biggest reason for EU shipment rejections.
Red flags to watch for. A buyer pushing for a large first order with no trial run, refusing to share business registration, or insisting on 100% advance payment — two or more of these together are worth slowing down for.
