Letting out a deep breath, Yukina debated on how long she should wait. There was a bench she could sit on for a bit, and though sitting was not necessary for this, it would help in her concentration. Not being a fighter by nature left a bit to be desired when it came to the mastery of her powers. But she knew she could manage this– having had enough practice in her past.
Though personally, she didn’t like to think about it. Lingering on those memories was too painful sometimes.
After some time, she curled her hands together on her lap and sat up a bit straighter. Energy hummed around in her chest, and her eyes went aglow for a brief moment. Yukina doubted he would be harmed by this, but she did hope he’d forgive her for using such a tactic.
All around her she could feel the temperature suddenly drop, dipping into freezing temperatures within a matter of seconds. The bench became coated in ice, and the trees were in a similar state. Frozen branches were in no state to hold up any weight, and sure enough, the distinct sound of cracking resounded through the park.
Several broke, and she stood up in a hurry to look around her. Did it… work?
Maybe she had called ahead to let Shizuru or Kuwabara know she’d be around. For whatever reason, Yukina actually seemed to enjoy their company. Perhaps even Botan would stop in for a moment, and while noisy, she could be entertaining to spy on.
Content with the conclusions he had drawn, Hiei settled in for a rare moment of relaxation. He did enjoy the sound of human world birds much more than any other in the demon world, and the trees of this park were fresh, snuffing out the stench of pollution and humanity. His arms tucked behind his head, the tiny swordsman closed his eyes for a moment, trusting he’d wake the moment he heard another’s voice begin to chat up his sister.
And then...
CRACK!
Hiei felt the branch give just before it fell to the ground. Quick as ever, he recovered, but not fast enough to scramble to another tree. His guard had been down, he’d let himself be surprised, and it showed in the way he landed, knees bent, with one hand on the ground to steady himself, crouched nearly like a cat.
It took him a moment to put together what had happened, and a second longer when he caught his sister’s eyes. This was rather...awkward and embarrassing. He said nothing to make the situation better, even as he drew himself to his full height. What could he say? Moreover, what was with blue-haired women forcing him to fall out of trees?
“Then tell me,” Kalluto’s tone took on a sharp edge. “Where is the village?” He wanted that stone. If he could not obtain one from Hiei, perhaps he could extract one from the source.
Maybe the prophecy was meant to come true after all. Maybe he would be the one to kill the Glacial Village, though indirectly. “Too far for you to reach. Even if you could find the mountain’s base, you’d never be able to make it through all the ice and snow unless you were an ice or fire demon yourself. Are you really that desperate for a bauble?”
“That is, if I don’t get to them first.”
(When you’re trying to bond with your teammate but they just drop some heavy stuff on you….)
tbh I really want to just start showing more of the story, rather than obsessing over everything looking perfect. I think I’m going to start being more careful as I work, though…

Hiei begrudgingly having to hold onto one of the other Reikai Tantei.
“I may be small, but that’s just because I’m still growing."
OOC; Things I want to do for Hiei...
1. Write up a few new verses for him (Inuyasha and Pokemon in particular).
2. Write up drabbles for him, particularly relationship based ones. Especially Botan and Kurama.
Kalluto was unfazed by Hiei’s words. He almost did not catch them, he was almost hypnotized by the jewel. “Tell me: where can I find a jewel as precious as the one you have.”
“You can’t.” It was that simple. This wasn’t just any hiruseki stone--it had been shed by a newly made mother for the child she brought into the world. “This was the tear my mother shed for me during my birth. Unless you find the ice maidens’ village, you won’t even have a chance of stealing one.”
So stupid. Obviously he’d crawled towards another demon’s established territory if there was a well nearby. Still, he was grateful for the water and drank it all down, even if it felt raw at first on his throat. Soon it was soothing, and the coppery taste of blood began to fade as well.
“Impatient brat, aren’t you?” He had more strength to insult now. “You’ll get yours. What do you want?”
Once again, the boy bit his tongue. The demon seemed to have recovered a bit of his strength which made Kalluto more cautious.
A blue glint from around Hiei’s neck caught the Zoldyck’s eye. Normally, the boy was not greedy, having grown up with everything he could have possibly wanted. But something about the stone inspired a feeling of lust; to obtain the stone, no matter the cost. He knew he was gawking at the stone but he could not look away.
It’s an old sensation, not by any means new, but strange all the same. It’s been a long while since he’s caught anyone staring at the jewel hanging from his neck. He should have expected this.
With a rough laugh, Hiei sits himself up more, wanting to look in the girl’s eyes, see his mother’s gem reflected in them. “If you want my hiruseki stone that badly, you’ll have to kill me for it. You might be tempted, but we both know even in this state there’s a better chance I could steal your eyes out of your skull than you could steal what’s around my neck.”

A terrible motivation indeed–that Meiko recognizes, that his want to destroy is a dark thing indeed. It is not a task that she feels that she would carry out herself, but in the end, his desire has nothing to do with her, nor does she know, or harbor any sort of attachment to the beings of which he speaks. Do to that, if they were to disappear entirely from this earth, it would hurt her no more than a thorn wedged momentarily into unsuspecting flesh. She remains silent, allowing the male to have his fill of prattle. Meiko wonders just how it is he came to be in possession of such shards of power, probably stripping them from their previous, much less intelligent owners no doubt. The acc- usation of fibbery however, has her tilting her head, just enough to gaze at him with empty hues, lashes semi lowered as she contemplates him over. The yokai offers not a single verbal acknowledgement, simply raises a slender arm, fingers spread wide, palm facing his trail of destruction as energy, sparked and dance within the fleshy center of her hand. It’s eagerness is so great, that as the white hot fibers meet, audible pops, crackles, and zaps sound out against the open air. The shimmer condenses, collapsing into the perfectness of a smooth, a small, luminous, sphere. There is a moments pause as she holds it there, the force, lifting her hair, billowing her robes. Meiko lets it fly, expelling it like cannon fire as it travels the Hiei’s blackened path, knocking over what little of the trees that had remained, clinging for dear life, digging up more dirt and ash, sending it up it up into a great cloud, illuminated by the strength of her spirits, spiraling out off into the distant horizon like an imploding star.
What is that sort of raw power? It matches his own--it might even surpass it! How can she...That’s not possible! He’s the most powerful demon in these lands! There’s no way that’s her base power level. She must be enhancing her demonic energy somehow, like through jewel shards!
“So tell me, hag. How many do you have?” he asks cautiously, trying not to show any sign of being impressed or nervous. “Jewel shards. There’s no way you’d ever be able to match me otherwise. I knew you only wanted to collect more for yourself. I bet you have a whole pouch full of them, probably hidden somewhere in your stomach.”
And yet now he’s hesitant to fight her for them. Jewel shards or not, power is power. Even if her own is augmented by ten, even fifteen shards, it would still make it supremely difficult to swipe them, especially given her age. She must be experienced. He can’t let his guard down for even an instant.
“Yeah, I guess it wouldn’t be a big deal to you but guess who was the guy that had to explain that big ass headache? Here’s a hint; not baby Vegeta.” Water under the bridge his ass! There was still a bit of a sore spot there even if he had forgiven Hiei long ago. Though it was time to let that go. Hiei was a reformed man now.. mostly… kinda. So there was no way he would return to such underhanded tricks to get the upper hand if say Yusuke and Hiei were on opposing sides… mostly.. kinda. Nah, Yusuke trusted him no matter how often Hiei insisted it was a detriment decision for his well being.
“That’s… some way of saying you like her.” Hiei was far more assertive in these situations than he led on, wasn’t he? This conversation would need to be put on hold, however, as the portal linking the demon world to the human world was now in sight. “C’mon, Hiei. We’re almost there.” He stated, kicking off against a branch one final time for a tremendous burst of speed and air-time.
Within a matter of seconds, Yusuke landed directly in front of the aforementioned portal, gazing upon its imposing size. “Alright, partner, we’re here. You sure you didn’t forget to pack your tooth brush?” He quipped, launching himself into the vortex without even so much as waiting for a response.
“Why would a baby ever explain anything? I’ll assume you’re referencing a friend of Koenma’s.” Talking to humans like Kuwabara and Yusuke could be so frustrating. It was only the Dark Tournament semi-finals that Hiei even learned how to play rock-paper-scissors. Vegeta must be another infantile ruler, but what that has to do with Keiko, he’ll never understand, and at this point, he’s too afraid to ask.
Thank God they were back to focusing on the mission at hand. He wasn’t sure how much more of that sort of talk he could take. Perhaps he really should just keep it to Kurama, his advice about ‘opening up more’ to their friends be damned.
He continued to say nothing as they approached the portal, reverting to his normally stoic disposition. Another quip from Yusuke, and Hiei followed after him through the vortex without so much as a scoff in response.
The witch’s lips curved into a scowl, whoever was out there seemed to want to maintain their concealment, like it mattered anyway; there were much important things to deal with, like the expected guards that would congregate before the gate & the dangers that lurked beyond it.
This world was quite different from Earth, no birds chirped, no sound of the breeze rustling the foliage; nothing & that in itself was quite unsettling.
“Who goes there?” The demand was met with a small, innocent smile from the woman in question. “I do.” A tree branch was shifted out of the way as Akako came into view. She was a petite adolescent, dainty, with long dark hair and carmine hues that held many a secret, upon assessment she wouldn’t seem like much of a threat but that was just an assumption.
“This land is off-limits to anyone without strict permission, get out of here, you arent wanted!” Barked the guard, his features were twisted, grotesque, with eyes that bulged from their sockets when he spoke. Akako remained composed, taking step after step without breaking their connected gaze. A hand came to rest upon the troll’s shoulder “You’re off duty, starting now.” It was a mere whisper, a crimson spark slithering between her fingers before dispersing into the guard in question, leaving him completely immobile.
“I’m really glad you changed your mind.” Another brief pat on the shoulder and she passed him, the charm on her finger enough to crack the lock that held the door firmly shut. With that she was back on her journey, acknowledging the fact that she was still being tailed but opting to remain indifferent to it until it confronted her.
Well. That little trick looked oddly familiar. Hiei couldn’t help but smirk as he watched the girl ruthlessly cut down the guard. That took him back to some fairly memorable times with Kurama and Goki. Hadn’t thought about the latter in a long while.
But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s finally done something worth intervening for. He doesn’t give a damn about the guard, or any of the others she may kill, but it would be best to nip this little plan of hers in the bud right now before it spirals out of control and threatens people he marginally cares about.
“You’re on the wrong side of the border, human,” Hiei finally calls out to her. “Be a good little human girl and hurry on home. You wouldn’t want me to have to force. I won’t ask nicely like that fool of a security guard tried to.”
psa; im the kind of roleplayer that’s more than willing to start in the smack dab middle of a relationship and then talk about their connections and history later because it’s fun to throw my muse(s) into a random situation and watch their dumb ass work their way out of it.
