#Telangana Lockdown Extension #Owaisi Urges KCR Govt Not to Extend Curbs, Suggests Mini Lockdowns Decision Today #Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday urged the Telangana government not to extend the prevailing COVID-19 lockdown in the state, which is in force since May 12 with a four-hour daily relaxation. After 10 days, it was further extended till May 30. The state Cabinet is going to meet today to decide whether the lockdown in Telangana must be extended. In a series of tweets, the MP said data showed COVID cases were declining in the state much before the lockdown was imposed. "I must reiterate my opposition. It's not a strategy to combat COVID-19. It APPEARS as a "hard on pandemic" strategy but all it does is destroy the lives of poor," Owaisi tweeted. Noting that the only long-term solution is universal vaccination, he said, "Lockdowns give a cruel choice to the poor: poverty, police atrocities, or pandemic. They make a public health crisis into a law and order problem. They are neither a scientific nor a humanitarian strategy." While urging the Chief Minister to not extend lockdown, he said if the government wanted to reduce crowding of the public, it may consider evening curfews from 6 pm, or impose mini lockdowns for COVID-19 clusters. "But expecting people to live for weeks with just a 4-hour lockdown relaxation is not fair at all." Telangana on Saturday reported 2,982 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to over 5.74 lakh, while the toll stood at 3,247 with 21 casualties. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 436, followed by Nalgonda (190) and Khammam (176), the bulletin said. Recoveries outnumbered fresh cases, with 3,837 people testing negative, taking the total to 5,33,862. Active cases stood at 36,917. The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 5,74,026. https://www.instagram.com/p/CPf3GQerB5G/?utm_medium=tumblr
