Finn doesn’t respond, at first. It’s strange to see Poe look uncertain — the pilot is usually so assertive, so confident, both in the Rebellion and in his own abilities. Finn wants to worry, seeing that expression on Poe’s face — but they don’t have time. Instead he reaches out, grasps Poe’s shoulders and squeezes, firm and ( he hopes ) comforting.

“ I’m nothing like you.” Finn’s voice is sharp, and he slams his hand into the barrier in a knee-jerk reaction. The implication disgusts him, and it’s written all over his face. “The people you betrayed were your family, you sicko. People who loved you. They were trying to train you to be a jedi for kriff’s sake. The First Order kidnapped me when I was a baby. I never had a choice until I got a chance to escape — you did. And you chose wrong.”

Finn suspects that Kylo Ren still has a choice, though the idea makes him feel sick to his stomach. He knows General Leia still believes her son could change, that there might be light in him left, even after everything. Typically, Finn would want to agree — it would be foolish of him to dismiss the idea that people change, when he was a stormtrooper himself ( and a cowardly one at that. ) But Kylo Ren...

Well. You really couldn’t blame Finn for holding a grudge, could you? Especially when it’s clear Kylo Ren won’t be changing anytime soon.

Finn nods. He’s heard about the clones, of course. “We’re programmed to emulate them, kind of. We weren’t really supposed to be... individuals.” Finn knows that programmed isn’t really the word for it. Finn is human, not a robot; he was brainwashed and manipulated and tortured into that position. But it’s certainly easier to say.
