I’m slowly learning to love myself with the pieces you left of me.

“TORU-SAN? Ah… the guy work for.” Sliding his eyes over the retracted sleeve of his dress shirt, he peeked over at the clock face coiling over his wrist. Plenty of time to spare, he though, and let his frame sink deeper into the plushness of the cushion he chose to perch on. “What did I tell you about causing too much trouble? Didn’t I say something like this can happen? Now look what that has gotten you into.” ∰
“But Toru-san is very kind. And he doesn’t deserve to have some idiot just come in and make him lose business over a cup of coffee.” When things like this happen, she isn’t usually the one to stand idly by while it unfolds. “I know you’ve told me, but would you have been able to just sit there? I guess I’ll just have to report him to the department chair if anything else should happen again. Or have someone else read over my paper. I should have gotten a higher grade for this!”
“NOT a big deal,” he parroted, nodding his head to that. Of course, if Kei was anyone else, the level of believability of that sentence would have been high enough for the subject matter to be dropped. However, Murakawa Kei, heir to the leading cooperation in Japan, childhood friend to the most unintelligibly scrooge of information, was not just anyone. He was certainly not just anyone in this woman’s life; not now, not ever. And unfortunately being given that privilege meant that a) he does not believe that something to do with her studies would be anything of a trivial matter b) Yurika tends to be very, very bad at lying, even without his apparent mind-reading power activated.
“And why did he say it was subpar? Didn’t you work hard on it?” ∰
Yurika remained quiet for a while, taking the time to put her books away in her bag as an attempt to keep her irritation at bay before finally taking a deep breath.
“I did work hard on it.” She began to explain. “The stupid professor just has a grudge on me because I yelled at him and kicked him out of the cafe I work at after he insulted Toru-san’s coffee. He was making a scene and it was messing with the customers. Little did I know he would end up being one of my teachers.”
“…. DUMB enough to make you go super-saiyan on your books?” Gloved fingers swept over bent knees as books and papers piled over his the compact sinews of his arm. With that, he stood up straight again, turning his face back towards her voice. “If I heard it right, you were saying something about being ‘subpar’.” ∰
“It’s not a big deal.” Yurika responded, although her previous actions clearly told otherwise. She reached out and took the books out of his hold. “I turned in a history paper not too long ago, and when I got it back, the professor made sure to tell me it was subpar.”

what is the deal
“It’s some dumb school stuff, that’s all.”
“That’s what I just said,” he mumbled with a sigh escaping out of him afterwards. Watching her with slight amusement as she took the tape from him, Hayate hoped that she didn’t think he was a stalker or anything. He’d usually would just hang out in the pop section of the store, not really paying attention to the people that were around him. Other than that – he had spotted her a few times just standing there staring at the varieties of albums.
“You don’t have a cassette player?” He wasn’t surprised about that. Those types of players were really, but Hayate had kept his for ‘rare’ occasions. “..here, I’ll let you borrow mines.” Luckily, he had his on him right at the moment. Digging back into the same pocket which he pulled the tape out, he held onto a cassette player. Extending his hand out a little towards her. “You know how to use one, right? Just put the tape in and press play.”
Yurika watched as he pulled out the cassette player, genuinely surprised that someone would happen to be carrying such an outdated device around. Nowadays, all she really saw were those ipods, or even people’s phones, but not a whole cassette player. She took it once it was given to her and said, “Yes, I know how to use one. My dad once kept one around. That was a long time ago, though.”
“But thank you very much! Can I have your name?” She paused. “Oh, and maybe your phone number too so I know how to get this back to you, in case we don’t see each other at the store.”

And with that, the class was dismissed. Usui watched quietly behind his desk as a few girls chatted together in a small group, others rushed out as soon as possible, and some quickly wrote down as much as they could from the board behind him. Leaning back in his seat, the professor saw someone in particular out of the corner of his eye.
The waitress. She was about to leave. “Ah–” He opened his mouth, “Fijioka-san.”
“A word? Please?”
Ugh.
Yurika had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. She thought she could slip away easily, avoid any sort of discussion with this man whom she had immediately recognized from the moment they first began this course. Normally, were he any other person, she wouldn’t hesitate on acting as she normally would--but he just had to be an exception. Her professor. Who would’ve thought?
So, Yurika turned to face him slowly, expression kept as neutral as possible as she walked the few steps back to his desk.
“There was something you wanted to talk about...?”
kouutei:
“I wouldn’t consider myself being overworked. I’m just fine.”
“But how’s school goin? I imagine you’re doing well since I never hear you complain.”
Her brows drew together slightly at his response, but she decided not to press on the subject. Instead, she focused on the question now directed towards her.
“School has been fine. Although recently I’ve been assigned a group project in my sociology class, and so far the group I’m with doesn’t seem all that cooperative. It’s a little frustrating.”
kouutei:
“Right, okay I’ll check it out.”
“But yeah my day was alright I guess, I haven’t really done much today. What about you?”
“Nothing but work, huh? You should take a break every once in a while, Toru-san. It’s not good to overwork yourself too much.”
“I haven’t done much either today, though. Just some school stuff, but that’s about it.”
