I try to support the choices my kids are making, but I feel for all their acquired knowledge of things lgbtq+ they have this mentality where they’re just entitled to be ignorant about their choices, such as the problematic elf. I’m glad someone can verbalize my frustration like this guy. Makes me feel like I’m not alone…

Not knowing your history can lead to bad takes like this one. Heck, it can lead to thinking you're safer than you are. I watch teens be soooooo confident in a rural area in a way that makes me think they absolutely don't understand why knowing when gay marriage was legalized in the US, and that it was within their own short lifetimes matters. When you think you invented being gay and say, have no idea that the lavender scare was a bigger deal and had a more lasting effect than the red scare and that even though they were happening simultaneously you've never read about it in school, that matters. Your ignorance makes you feel safe, but I see Toby's full face of makeup and I know he doesn't live where I am or he'd know why he needs pride. The liberal bubble you live in can make your conservative ideas seem reasonable, but I'd you were to see what it's like for other people, you'd know.
