forever annoyed at the lack of non-woven jedi garments. excuse you, fibrecraft is the basis of society. where are they getting their cloth from? are they weaving it themselves? are they spinning it themselves? where is the knitwear. you cannot tell me that there are no sweaters in the jedi order. there are probably hideous sweaters made from fourteen different colours of yarn because they're made from the wool leftover from other projects. all of the colours manage to clash. and embroidery is just too good for teaching patience. hand-sewing in general is good and meditative.
these people are going to be darning their own socks, patching holes in their robes. they are going to have needles and thread in their survival kits and know how to hold the cloth tension just right with the force so they can re-weave the bigger holes by using tiny, straight sticks to hold the warp in place.
Oh @dapurinthos please don't leave behind these amazing tags!
YES! Oh I have so many weird headcanons for this!
One of my ideas is that over the last 25k years Jedi have domesticated/bred some kind of wool-producing animal (maybe a space-alpaca if their temples are often in the mountains?). Also maybe some kind of textile plant. The animal naturally has brown fur and the plant has some kind of cream fuzz – hence why their robes are the way they are. Some Jedi will dye the textiles different colors but that's their prerogative and the usual Temple produce is undyed.
Also love the idea of Jedi using embroidery to cover holes and slashes in their robes. A neat little trick that keeps them from being thrown out of fancy diplomatic parties for looking like hobos But also keeps them from having to throw away robes after the first encounter with a bounty hunter. Outsiders think Jedi with the most heavily embroidered robes are the highest-ranked but they're just the ones most stubborn about throwing out clothes.
Padawans don't have the heavily embroidered robes but that's usually because they're constantly outgrowing them. Or a few padawans do have heavily embroidered robes but that's because those robes are hand-me-downs.
Also Jedi don’t throw out old clothes – if scraps aren’t big enough to be used as rags or what have you they can be woven into these big soft rugs and similar things.
But yes 100% agree with y'all the Jedi have ALL the textile arts you can't tell me they don't!
