Scott, owner of @turnturnturnpdx, asked me to design a neon sign for his bar/ vinyl shop (aka the Bohemian Clubhouse). It was just hung in the window this weekend, facing Killingsworth. Bending by Peter at Artico Lite here in pdx!! I'm rather chuffed about it; this is the 2nd physical neon sign I’ve designed and I hope to do more!

Next in the hello/goodbye series – auf wiedersehen, German for goodbye. Inspired by the style of Richard Clark, a British calligrapher and letterer who produced gorgeous works in the mid-18th century. I did a detailed pencil sketch first and then drew it digitally – not easy but I learned a lot !

Because I’m speaking next month at the Typographics conference, they asked me to write an article for their blog, about GIFs, neon and my process. It’s called Electric Letterland: Building neon GIFs in homage to the real thing.

starting new “hello/goodbye” series in various languages. “Hello”s as bright neon gifs, and “goodbye”’s as brush or pen style custom lettering. Good explorations to be done always!
