Finally posting some bonafide molam on this blog, performance starts at about 2:40.
A little slice of lore is that when I was about 12 or 13 my mom made me watch the king and I with Yul Brynner because she had a crush on him and all I retained from it was a lifelong fascination with Thai dancing. Just another little way mom’s attempts at controlling my trajectory took a surprising and for her baffling turn.
This dance is about 1000 times more romantic and interesting than a Hammerstein musical to me. It’s also incredibly geometric, it’s only 10 minutes long (ideal for watching/listening on a loop) & the music and vocals are pleasing. There are few things I like better or even equivalently to math but ลำ (lam) comes very close.
