Think about it⊠itâs a bunch of small voids and small galaxies. In these galaxies, whatâve they got? Alt universes. Boom.â
Rian furrowed his brow but carefully wrote down what the other said. This man was mad. Then, he offered out a hand, âI forgot to introduce myself to you. My name is Rian OâSullivan... Whatâs your name, Mr. Alien Expert?â

âYou wonât be disappointed?â Francis asked, loosely grasping Rianâs hand in return. The touch was comforting, even if he had no memory of marrying him. He didnât feel heâd made those promises to Rian, but he also felt like he ought to keep them, if he really wanted to. Though honestly he wasnât sure he couldâhe could scarcely have been further from the mood for sex.
âYou could never disappoint me,â he responded, placing a gentle kiss against the back of Francisâ hand. âOr at least, it will take more than deciding to take a night off. I need one too. After all, I did doze off before you could even get more than a syllable out.â
Out of instinct, Rian released the other when their meal was delivered. Part of him was still worried something would be said. Mumbling a quiet âMerci beaucoupâ and trying to ignore his accent shining through, he began to eat.
thebeautyofliberty:
âTo Oscar,â Francis echoed in agreement, tapping his glass against Rianâs before taking a drink. He took another before responding to Rianâs question.
âHonestly, I donât know,â he said with a slight shrug. âMaybe itâs something with the government.â It had actually been fairly stable recently, which was a first for Francis in the last century. âI think I just need a good nightâs sleep.â And a nice hookah of opium. Maybe drugs would make this world make more sense.
Giving a laugh, Rian reached across the table and took one of his loverâs hands. âMaybe it is just that... If you would like to hold off on our âexperimenting,â we have been pretty busy the past week. Perhaps it would be nice to have a night of just... Lying in each otherâs arms? We can do whatever you wanted to do tonight tomorrow.â
The redhead squeezed the Frenchmanâs hand gently before taking a swig of his drink with his free hand. âUp to you however because I promise I was still looking forward to it.â
Anything you can do i can do better
âI donât sing with strangers, so take your musical theatre elsewhere.â
thebeautyofliberty:
âOkay.â Francis went up and dawdled around a few minutes trying to figure out a cocktail to pick and then just ordered straight cognac and a bottle of red wine back to the table. He set Rianâs drink down in front of him as he re-joined him at the table.
âTo our health, and some sanity in this wild world,â he said, raising his glass, and hoping it had some kind of cathartic effect on whatever in Godâs name was happening to him right now.
Rian raised his glass and offered a sympathetic smile before mumbling, âAnd to Oscar.â Then, without hesitation, he knocked back a couple of gulps before setting it back down. âAre you feeling better? I know earlier you felt a little off, but... Iâm a little worried about you. I know youâve said Iâve done nothing, but something must have happened.â
@hxundofstgeorgeâ (O)
âNo, we donât use towels in Dublin,â Rian stated dryly, holding a hand up to make the other man wait in the doorway before walking into his apartment. âDid you consider that the driver saw you and decided it could be fun to splash you? After all, you are completely overdressed for just coming to meet me.â
Rian was the opposite wearing only in a ratty sweater and jeans. Nothing to write home about. Walking back to Arthur, he handed off the towel before finally allowing him in.Â
tiarnafrancach:
âAlternate universes! How the hell wouldnât ya believe in them? What proof dâyou have against them?â This is what you get for being Irish in the manâs vicinity, especially when heâs been without this sense of camaraderie or brotherhood or whatever. Years in the US had softened his accent so, but being around a fellow Irishman brought something out in him. âI mean, câmon, thisâd make a whole fuck of a lot more interesting a story than whatever yours is! âMonâenâŠâ
If only to get the other off his back, Rian slowly flipped to another page in his notebook and began to take notes. In a monotone voice he stated, âWell, go on. If you have convincing evidence then this would be more interested than interviewing the owner of a donut shop over just âHow she does it.ââ The Irishman offered a small smile, catching a hint of the accent from the other, finally realizing why he was stopped. Besides, he didnât even like donuts.Â

thebeautyofliberty:
âRight.â Fuck. He grabbed a menu and looked it over, grabbing the first thing off it that he recognized, which was pot au feu. âTwo of these, please,â he said to the waiter. âDo you want something from the bar, Rian? Iâd like a drink myselfâŠâ Something strong.
âSurprise me,â he chimed, offering a smile and relaxing in his seat. The Irishman was still distracted by all of the sights and people around him. He sat quietly, trying to catch any conversation he could. Thankfully, he hadnât noticed that Francis had forgotten the fact he couldnât read the menu and instead just assumed that Francis forgot he didnât know what was served within the bar.Â
thebeautyofliberty:
Francis kept ahold of Rianâs hand, just because they could, and led him over to a free table. He assumed the privacy of such was preferable to sitting at the bar. A waiter came by with menus and Francis passed one to Rian. He didnât feel hungry in the slightest himself, only slightly sick to the stomach. Too anxious to eat.
âPick whatever you like,â he said to Rian, scanning the list of cocktails.
âAm I allowed to ask you to choose?â The redhead asked, blushing lightly. He had a major problem of being unable to read the menu aside from a few words. Unlike the Rian of the 21st century, Rian had yet to learn French past the basics. Or rather, he could speak better than he could read.Â
âIâll just have the same as you, Francis.â
thebeautyofliberty:
He found the chance to pause by a newspaper stand and examine the front page. December, 1900. 14 years until the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. His gut twisted unpleasantly, and he hurried them along, trying to recall, as they walked, where these places were he used to know.
Eventually he found a familiar corner, and led them down the steps to the basement bar. He flirted their way past the bouncer-type, and led Rian into the warmly lit, smoky bar, peopled with couples like themâthe sort who wouldnâtâcouldnâtâbe caught holding hands out on the street above.
âVoila,â Francis murmured in Rianâs ear, still pleased to be able to show this to him, despite the circumstances. âWeâve fallen down the rabbit hole; welcome to Wonderland.â
Rianâs eyes widened as they walked inside. It was perfect. Desperately, he reached back to Francisâ hands, hairs standing on end at the light whisper from Francis. âThank you... Thank you so much...â
His stomach grumbled, reminding him why they were really there, but he still waited for Francis to lead the way, unsure if it truly was safe within the bar and not wanting to draw attention to himself.Â
