I personally adore the details about both Root and Shaw being really weird about any human interaction, especially about showing affection. Shaw hides it by never talking about it, by never displaying affection in traditional ways, by denying it. Root hides it by over-demonstrating it, by being too affectionate, so affectionate that it looks like she's joking or like it doesn't mean that much cause she has that playful attitude towards almost everyone. That's why their banter is so dear to me. Basically both of them are like "I love you but you didn't hear that from me and just nevermind" and I find it cute
