“Are you fucking kidding me? If I wanted to hear shitty covers of B-list ABBA songs I’d go to the karaoke bar down the street.” Alexa responds not holding back and looks to Ezra as she pulls up a record of her own, The Cure’s Pornography. “This is what you should get. You trust me, don’t you? And use your head, vinyl always sounds better.”
Reluctantly, he puts the record back where he found it, a soft frown forming on his lips only momentarily. He was almost certain he’d mentioned Mamma Mia was his favorite movie, and that ABBA was his second favorite band next to Fleetwood Mac, but he could always come back for the album. When he’s alone. If only to make Alexa happy. “Yeah, okay,” he says, taking the album from her and studying it carefully, “Is Friday I’m In Love on here?”
cartfm:
“mate,” van breathes out, donning a certain seriousness with his voice, “anything mamma mia is priceless. how’s that even a question?” he says this, looking at his best buddy right in the eyes, his expression sincere and serious. if there’s something van took seriously second to the flower van, it was music– vinyls, especially.
“oh thank god,” he says, a hand coming up cover his chest, “that was the most important test of our friendship. i don’t know if i could hang with someone who didn’t support my addiction.” he’s mostly teasing, of course, theirs is a bond that can’t be broken, but its nice to keep things fresh.
sonatassolo:
Sonata excitedly flickered through the records at the shop, feeling the urge to buy something even if it wasn’t that special. They looked over at Ezra who they said they’d meet here and grinned at the other’s selection, “I know I said you could borrow my record of it, but I do think it’s worth having a copy of your own. Unlimited listening rights.” They were shoulder to shoulder, Sonata leaning over slightly to take a better look at the soundtrack. “Oh, looking at it just does something to me. Feeling like we ought to have an impromptu screening, celebrating our living right to celebrate.” they teased.
“This is why I hang with you,” he says with a grin, sliding the record under his arm, “You get me.” Sonata was one of Ezra’s only friends that understood, and matched, his enthusiasm for Mamma Mia. It was a niche interest, especially for a man covered almost completely in tattoos, but there was just something about it. “I wholeheartedly agree,” he says, grinning down at them, “But I don’t want to see a single dirty look about my off-key singing.”
andvs:
andy loved to come in the record shop on her breaks, or whenever she had spare time really. not so much as to browse, but to clear her head and feel in control again. her fingers delicately swept past the records, as if she was in search for something - no, idle fingers needed something to fiddle with - when she heard a voice next to her, and she turned slightly, to speak. “in an age where technology will most likely one day rule over everything we know and love, music included, i bet that record would be sorely looked for,” she mused quietly, a small smile on her face, “why not buy it now for a mere thirty dollars, for a potential profit in the future?”
he tilts his head as she speaks, some of what she’s saying getting lost on him. the business side of his brain was severely underdeveloped, or at least that’s what his father liked to say. nothing was really ever about making money to him, after all, he was probably among the cheapest tattoo artists in the state- and he was talented. “oh, i could never sell it,” he says with a shrug, “at least not for more than i bought it for. i can’t charge someone more than i paid for something new after i’ve used it.”
niamhisms:
Niamh had been absorbed enough in her own perusing that she jumped just a little when he spoke, which was enough to have her feeling a smidge resentful. She hid it well though, trying to be graceful, until she looked down at the record in his hands and found herself breaking out into a gleeful smile. “’Better’? Sweetheart, I think if it was ever going to sound good, it would have by now. I think that’s called a lost cause.”
Ezra throws a hand over his heart, dramatically feigning hurt as he clutches the album in his other hand. “Niamh, do not tell me you don’t like Mamma Mia,” he says, looking at her expectantly, “It’s already a near-perfect album, I’m just wondering if the sound will be any better. Not the content. The content is...” he kisses his fingers, “chefs kiss.”
“what do you think?” ezra asks the person beside him in the record shop, holding up a vinyl copy of the mamma mia: here we go again soundtrack, “think it’s worth the thirty bucks? it’s my most played on spotify, but like- you think it’s gonna sound any better?”
◊ ♫ ◊— look what the cat dragged in! that’s EZRA GREENE and HE/HIM is an around 25-year-old CASUAL VISITOR to the store, but they’ve been in the neighborhood for 7 YEARS. I think they are a TATTOO ARTIST and I overheard them listening to MODERN LONELINESS by LAUV, and, I dunno man, it seemed pretty fitting. Like, call me shallow but I look at them and think of ALEX FITZALAN and ARMS LINED WITH TATTOOS, IMPULSE PURCHASES FROM AMAZON, AND FALLING IN LOVE WITH STRANGERS ON THE TRAIN.
