Coffee was absolutely needed today. Holland hadn’t been able to sleep, complaining about his snoring, and had woken Jimmy up in the middle of the night. Again. After that, he’d struggled to get back to sleep again which meant he absolutely needed caffeine more than ever before. It seemed he wasn’t the only one.
Jimmy had spotted Ezra in the queue for coffee, and tried to get his attention but hadn’t seemed to be able to. He didn’t quite remember how they became such good friends, but here they were a few months down the line. It didn’t help that Jimmy was absolutely in love with Ezra’s little girl and seeing her, despite the crying, only made him more excited for the newest addition to the Shore family.
He’d got his coffee before Ezra, but stopped to add too much sugar to his coffee before heading out, going to grab the door but Ezra beat him to it.
“Ezra, hey,” Jimmy smiled, coffee in hand, before he looked down at Easter. He leaned down a little to meet the tot’s eyeline, and although she wasn’t looking at or listening to him, he still spoke to her.
“Hello sweetheart, aren’t you a grumpy girl today?” He cooed with a little pout before straightening up. “Everything okay?”
Hearing his name being called, Ezra glanced over his shoulder to be met with a very sympathetic looking Jimmy Shore. In one way, he was relieved to see the man but, in another, he just wanted to get back home without any interruption. It was unusual for the nurse to feel so stressed, but maybe these long shifts and lack of sleep was really starting to take it’s toll. Ezra offered Jimmy a warm smile, before exhaling a sigh when questioned if everything was okay. “You know how it is, man.. Easter’s teething and.. no matter how many times I put teething gel onto her gums or hand her a teething ring that we’ve placed into the freezer, nothing is working for her today. I’m exhausted.” He informed, though really disliked surrendering to his true emotion. Ezra hated letting other’s know how tired he was.
As she was being cooed over and spoken to, Easter’s cries slowed to more of a sob as she finally laid eyes on Jimmy, and though she was a little more quiet for a few seconds, she soon burst into tears again.
“You’ve had kids, man. How’d you handle this stage?” Ezra asked as he soothed a hand over his daughter’s head and tried once more with her pacifier.
