to the SUPER unofficial freezepop archive! (super bcuz there's a youtube channel with the same name that i am also NOT affiliated with)

here you can find pics, gifs, fanart, vids, graphics, stories, tour diaries and more stuff related to freezepop. i'm sort of a new fan, so i'm finding new stuff almost every day and would appreciate your help if i get something wrong!! i'm starting this bcuz...

who is freezepop?

freezepop is a synthpop band from boston started in 1999. it's original members are liz enthusiasm (jussi gamache), the other sean t. drinkwater (sean drinkwater), and the duke of pannenkoeken aka the duke of belgian waffles aka the duke of candied apples (kasson crooker). the duke left the band in 2009, but they got two new members: christmas disco-marie sagan (ashley holtgraver) and robert john bananas foster (seth damascus-kennedy). when they're all in the same place, they call it super freezepop!

you may know their songs from the rock band games or guitar hero. i have a little history on them on my main here.

who are you?

i'm cave!!! my main blog is @cavejebus. i'll probably be the only one doing this, and it might just be until the end of my summer break, but i'll try to do my best for the 2 freezepop fans out there...check out my main pinned post for more info abt me!

Monday, April 22

We got up at 4 a.m. and took a cab to the airport. We flew to Frankfort. It's a cool airport. The security to get back into the U.S. was a lot tighter than anything we'd experienced flying over. The flight was long. Really really long. Then we had to sit on the plane for another half hour because the customs lines were too long. The weather was cold and gray and rainy. It made us want to curl up into fetal position. This day was not so good.

I want to go on tour again.

We actually had the whole day free to do what we wanted! It was sooooooooooooooo what we needed. The weather was gorgeous and sunny and warm. We started out walking through the park. There were a great many booths there, mostly of a vaguely hippie nature (natural food, hemp jewelry, candles, etc.). But a great many of them were selling crepes. The boys still had no luck procuring any carbonated beverages. We walked for a while until we gave up on finding a convenience store, and just went to a cafe instead. Whilst there, the Duke and Sean shared some kind of male bonding moment involving an attractive woman and very tight jeans. The Duke actually said "Boo-yah!" And I don't think it was entirely ironically, either. It was perhaps the most shocking moment of our whole tour. The Duke was really losing it that last day.

Also, we noticed a rather interesting Spanish-specific phenomenon of hot girls with brooms. It seems they all get jobs sweeping up. Who knew?

We walked as far as the Sagrada Familia, the most crazy, fucked-up cathedral we'd ever seen. It was amazing. We climbed the stairs all the way up to the top. Walking down made us very dizzy.

We discovered that it's impossible to be in a bad mood when there are palm trees around. At the Sagrada Familia cathedral. Mind-boggling. I highly recommend it.

We walked back to the hotel area and had lunch at a tapas bar. Advice to anybody traveling in Spain: try the potato omelette-y kinda thing. It's really yummy. We rested up a bit and headed back out, through the park again, but a different way this time. Lo and behold, there's a giant Wooly Mammoth! How terribly exciting! And then there was this amazing fountain/staircase that was just too beautiful for words. And we even saw parrots! Just flying around! Like normal birds! PARROTS!!! That kind of thing doesn't happen in Boston.

It was a short walk from the park to the beach. Yes, we got to see the Mediterranean. Sigh. I'm going all nostalgic. The water was really cold, but Sean and I had to wade in anyway. We hung out there for a while. It put us in the best mood ever. Seriously.

Sean made some new friends.

We got some gelati on the way back to the hotel. It was really really yummy. That night, Sean and I ventured out while the Duke spent some quality time with the QY-70. We found this big pedestrian street that we should have gone to the night before when we were looking for food. Except then we ended up having bad expensive pizza again. But it wasn't quite as bad. And then we had more gelati. It was a lovely night.

Saturday, April 20

Julio met us in the morning and accompanied us to the airport (us in taxi, him on motorcycle). We had a little breakfast and then took off for Barcelona. The flight wasn't too long, and the landing was really cool-looking. The cab ride to our hotel was very beautiful. Another gorgeous city with near-perfect weather. And palm trees! Can't go wrong with that.

After resting up a bit, we took a cab to the club, Razzmatazz, which was actually like 5 clubs in one. We were in Room 3. It was in this ultra-bleak part of town, but the club itself was pretty cool. The folks there were quite nice. After our soundcheck, we went off on a little photo shoot for this local magazine. Then all of a sudden, there were endless groups of teenagers walking by. 80% of the guys were wearing the same sweater, with an 80's looking zipper at the neck. And Pascal, the nice photographer gave me chocolate so I wouldn't pass out from hunger.

Then we went back to the club to meet Belen, the promoter, who gave us a ride back to our hotel in her Mini! That was a pretty nifty vehicle. We went off in search of dinner, and ended up at this Italian restaurant where they were playing the Pet Shop Boys. I had a really amazing pizza. The Duke had this terrifying, inedible rabbit thing.

Back at the club, we did a little interview up on the roof for lack of any better place to do it. Then we watched Me Enveno de Azules, another Elefant band. Then was our set. The turnout was really good, and there was a group of especially enthusiastic dancing crazy people up front. And another girl was taking pictures of my stripey socks (different ones this time). After everyone left our show, we went over to Room 2, where a heavy metal show was ending. Dark Moor were kicking all sorts of ass! Then millions of Spanish metalheads streamed out. It was awesome. There was going to be a second show going on there that night, Miss Kittin, which we wanted to check out, but it wasn't going to be for another couple of hours, and the clubs were closed while they were setting everything up, and seeing as our "dressing room" was not much more than a weird hallway thing where we could stash our gear, and the neighborhood was so crappy, we didn't really have anywhere to go to wait around. So we left. That was probably stupid, but oh well.

We went out in search of food and/or soda. Here's where a convenience store would have been really... convenient. We wandered and wandered, and all these restaurants were just closing (it was like 2 am), and we just literally could not find anything. Until we found this one place that was still open, and had really crappy frozen pizza that turned out to be more expensive than the marvelous pizza I'd had for dinner. Hmph.

Friday, April 19

We got up early and headed to the bus station. Our drive to Vigo took from 11 to 6. It was actually a really nice time though, getting to see the Spanish countryside. Lovely stuff. We stopped at this weird place for lunch, which didn't really work out so well, since all they seemed to have there were ham sandwiches. My god, the Spanish love ham! It's nuts.

Victor from Vademecum picked us up at the bus station and brought us to our hotel. Didn't actually get to see much of Vigo, other than a few blocks I wandered around before heading back to the hotel. Then Julio met us there and brought us over to the club, which was only a few blocks away. It was tucked in this little alleyway, and was really cool looking inside. Lots of pink sparkly decor. I liked it.

Julio brought us to a little restaurant nearby. I was a little apprehensive about the complete lack of anything remotely vegetarian on their menu, but i've gotta say, that was one excellent salad. Really! It was magical. Julio ordered this prawn appetizer, and they brought out this plate of whole prawns. The boys both have SERIOUS messy-food issues, so it was very amusing watching them struggle to try to keep their hands clean. They managed pretty well, though. It was a fun dinner, Julio was really cool. We had too much wine and too much food and were ready to pass out. We went back to our rooms to get ready and were soooo tempted not to go back to the club. That would not have been so cool, though.

We did an interview, and then we played at 12:30. We were the only band that night. It was another good crowd too. Afterwards, we hung out with Julio and drank my new favorite drink, gin and lemon fanta. mmm. I was very proud of myself because I stayed out later than Sean. It has to happen every once in a while, I guess.

Thursday, April 18

We slept much better this time. We went to meet my parents and Caro for breakfast and/or lunch. Afterwards, the Duke took off to meet Luis and Montse, they were going back to the TV studio to watch another band, this sort of Spanish synthpop supergroup called Que Mutada. They dress up like superheroes. Then Sean wandered off, and I spent the afternoon doing one of those bus tours with the folks and Caro. Everything was so lovely, and the weather was perfect for riding around on top of a bus.

Then we met back up at the hotel and Luis and Montse brought us to the club. After soundcheck, we had an interview with our biggest Spanish fans, Vikki and Nikki from Shock!, an 80s fanzine, and their photographer friend Kuno. That turned out to be a lot of fun. Afterwards, Luis and Montse brought us to this restaurant that also had that cool 1971 decor going on. It was kinda diner-y. I had a grilled cheese. Mmmm. Luis amazed us all with his condiment-burger. That guy sure likes his mayonnaise.

Coke Light is much better than Diet Coke. That's because they use two sweeteners. And the glass bottles. Yeah.

The show was a great one. There was a big crowd, and they were dancing and having fun. It was a nice change after all the bored teenagers at the TV station. The cool thing about our Spain shows is that some people already knew our music and were actually singing along. Some girl took photos of my stripey socks.

Ocho y Medio was the name of the club, which helps this make a bit more sense. Pic by Prof. Enthusiasm.

After the show, we said goodbye to Luis and Montse and went to go get some food with my parents and Caro. We ended up at what seemed like a fancy Spanish IHOP. I had a banana split.

Wednesday, April 17

We got the worst night's sleep of the tour. Madrid is really noisy at all hours of the night. Our hotel wasn't even on a main street, either. And every night around 3 am, they collect the trash. Every night! Our window had a big door in front of it, which I suppose would keep more of the noise out, but we seeing as we had to get up early and did not have an alarm clock, we thought we would sleep with it open. Doh! Yeah, we didn't have to worry about waking up early...

So then Tito from Elefant met us. One of the cool things about this trip was that we finally got to meet a bunch of people that we've been emailing with for so long. The Elefant gang especially. We took a cab to the TVE station. Tito served as our translator, which was great because we really got spoiled with everyone speaking English in Scandinavia. And I knew enough French for us to get by there and in Belgium. But we're all really clueless about Spanish. We soundchecked and then he brought us to the cafeteria for lunch. We sat outside for a while afterwards, which was gloriously pleasant. Sunny and warm and a little breezy... it was marvelous, since the weather had been on the gray and chilly side for most of our tour so far. After lunch, we had some wacky hijinks in our dressing room, which was this cool old studio straight out of 1971. And the Duke's luggage showed up too!

The Duke had way too much fun with what we're guessing was some sort of boom mike contraption.

And we tried to catch up on some sleep.

Then it was time for me to get my makeup done! Seriously! Sooo funny. I ended up looking like a Vegas showgirl. I'm hoping it looked a bit more normal under the TV lights. It kinda creeped me out.

I went in looking normal and came out looking scary.

I got back to the dressing room to find my parents and my French sis Caroline and her friend Nathalie. But we didn't have time to hang out because then we had to go tape the show. It was pretty strange. The station hires teenagers to be the audience, but only about 15 of them, and they just make them stand in one place and position the cameras so it looks like the room is full. The teenagers seemed kinda bored. And the music was not very loud. The whole thing seemed pretty subdued, which made it difficult to be animated or to rokk out at all. And plus, being on TV is just weird. I haven't been on TV since my Brownie troop visited the Uncle Gus show in like 1980. So I don't really know how we did, I haven't seen the tape yet. Hm. The photo sure looks impressive though.

After the taping, we went upstairs do to a radio interview. And then we all headed over to the Elefant headquarters, which was on the outskirts of Madrid. Luis and Montse have an apartment upstairs from the office, with a funny little dog and nice space age-y furniture. They made us a wonderful dinner, and Luis played us a lot of amazing obscure Spanish synthpop from the 70s and early 80s. I think having a nice low-key evening was exactly what we needed at that point. We had a great time.

omgomgomg. 1st of all ty for the ask. 2nd of all i'm not quite sure if they've ever actually said anything about that...like their fave flavor or something...but in MY opinion i think sean would be cherry, liz would be orange or grape, and the duke would be lime

Tuesday, April 16

We went to the little crepe stand downstairs for our breakfast. I got nutella and grand marnier. The boys got a variety of eggy/cheesy/hammy ones and sweet ones. Sean ordered one with butter and jam. This seemed to horrify the crepe guy. He was like "Together?!" Those wacky French. Anyway, the crepes were sheer decadence.

After a few errands, it was off to the airport. That part was really confusing and irritating and involved lots of looking around for things that weren't there. But thenwe had a stopover in Geneva, which was really short but long enough for us to decide that Switzerland really kicked ass. Yeah crazy mountains! We flew Crossair, and let me just say: Wow!! The nicest airline silverware I've ever seen! It was gorgeous. I should have stolen some.

So we arrived in Madrid, and were claiming our luggage when an airport employee approached us and notified us that the Duke's luggage was still in Geneva. Doh. Nice of him to tell us, though. Anyway, we met Luis and Montse from Elefant, they helped us sort out the luggage dealie, and they drove us into town. Madrid is so gorgeous! They brought us to our hotel, we all went out for a drink, and then they went back home. We went to a 7-11 to try to get the Duke some hair product for our big TV appearance. They only had aerosol hair spray. Ick.

Monday, April 15

We got up very early to catch our train. Boothnavy drove us to the station. Then it was time to say goodbye to him, as we was staying in Copenhagen to produce Si Señor's album. We were rather apprehensive about continuing on without him. He'd been our chauffeur, sound man, road manager, roadie, keyboard tech, photographer, videographer, and all-around wacky antics guy.

So we got on the train and fell asleep. The train actually goes on the ferry, which was pretty cool. I woke up for that part. Then fell asleep again. We had to change trains. The bathrooms at the train station were pretty scary. Big round steel basins. I couldn't quite figure out how one was supposed to use them. So we got on another train for 4 more hours. A cool old-skool German guy got on, with one of those funny mountaineering-type hats with the feather. I tried to make sandwiches, but the cheese we'd bought in Copenhagen turned out to be horrifically smelly. It looked like non-threatening cheese, like sliced Swiss or something. But my god, I opened the package and -PHEW- it stunk to high heaven.

Then we had to change trains again. Sean still wasn't having fun in Germany. We got on a bullet train this time. It was cool except there wasn't really much room to stow our abundance of gear and luggage and merch. Finally, we got into Paris at 10 pm. My parents met us at the station and we all went back to their apartment. Considering we didn't do much of anything all day but sit around, we were still pretty wiped out. Go figure.

Sunday, April 14

We slept late. And then the Duke and I headed to the train station to get some tickets for our trip back to Paris. Oh yeah, the whole rental car thingy. Well, we could have exchanged our car for an automatic and driven back to Paris. But after the whole going-to-Sweden-accidentally thing really sealed the deal for us, we did not want to drive at all. The thought of having to drive 14 hours in one day, not really knowing where we were going and not really being able to read the signs didn't sound so fun. Not that a 14-hour train ride sounded all that terribly exciting either, but the thought of being completely brain dead for a day did have a certain appeal. So yeah. We got some train tickets.

We came back and headed out for our Malmo show. We got to see the tunnel/bridge combination yet again, in the light this time! We ended up getting minorly lost again, but eventually found where we were supposed to be. We met the great folks from Twisterella.com, who were organizing the event for their third anniversary. After soundcheck, they pointed us in the direction of some food. There was a big shopping area nearby, but it being Sunday and all, almost nothing was open. We did manage to find a fun convenience store, which was quite entertaining.

We ended up at a realllly yummy Mexican restaurant. Sean wanted to marry our waitress. For real. Then, we saw Rick and Judi and Jakob and Laura and Lasse walking outside, so Boothnavy went and got them. So we all had delicious Mexican food and then we headed back to the show.

Our set was fun and we met bunch of adorable Swedish indiepop kids. Let me just say: Wow. The Swedes are a good-looking people. Holy moly! Everyone was so cute and stylish and really sweet too! When I'm rich, I'm definitely getting a summer house in Sweden.

Then it was time to head back to Copenhagen, and time to say goodbye to the Danes, and Rick and Judi too. Awww. Sads.
