I’m thankful for the uprising concerning George Floyd but why can’t we show up for Black women like this? Racism and police brutality aren’t Black man only problems. It broke my heart to see that we weren’t able to reserve #SayHerName for Black women.
I keep seeing so many posts about “pray for our men”, “having a Black son is a different type of strength.”...etc.
Who is praying for our daughters?
...you've seen the Louisville protests recently for Breonna Taylor, right?
Nope. Hence why I made the post. Funny that that protest isn’t getting as much (or any) attention or acknowledgement. Breonna was also killed earlier in the year. Why do Black women have to be acknowledged under the shadows of Black men?
I’ve never seen an uprising based off a Black woman by herself being killed by police.
I’m not saying that we should stop protesting the treatment of Black men in America but I AM saying we have to extend that same energy, anger and outcry for Black women without her being in a man’s shadow, even in death.
Forever saying your names.
What’s crazy is people will look at this and probably only be able to name 2 or 3 women and still will say we don’t have an inclusion issue in the #BlackLivesMatter movement. We do. We fucking do.
