Fortune cookies??
Random weird thought: WHY does Sherlock say he can always predict the fortune cookies? Most Chinese restaurants in the UK don't even give you fortune cookies; it's much more of a thing in the US. (Some do, but in my experience it's not super-common.)
Making it work is a hassle:
āNo, I didnāt kill anyone yesterday, but if you donāt stop being boring - ā
ā - whose shirt - ā
āNo brains in the fridge, weāve talked about this!ā
ā'Of course I havenāt drugged you, you always look like that until youāve had your ā ow!ā
Working, itās a hassle still:
āThis is stupid, the bed is clearly too small. Sebastian will have to - ā
āSorry, boss, didnāt see you there. Oh, was that your nose?ā - āUngdhf!ā - āNo, didnāt catch that.ā
āIf youāre all quite finished, then maybe John⦠John? John, what - ?!ā
āThis isnāt breakfast, this is a pipe bomb!ā
And everyone wears bruises and no one imagines that this is bliss, but they are broken men all, and when the night fades theyāre still there.
Ok, so while I'm amusing myself dissing ships that aren't mine (no offence intended! I know what works for me but you are all entitled to your own opinions) here's what mormorlock made me think of:
Mormorlock: like marmalade but instead of sweet, orange and good on toast it's black, sticky, bitter-salty and you keep finding it smeared on your skin or under your fingernails, days after you thought you'd washed the last of it off...
OMG I just realised something. So Marylock doesn't really do it for me: the Marylock fics that I've found plausible generally feature what I consider to be rather OOC(anon) versions of Sherlock. Not, of course, that there is anything wrong with non-canon versions! But this is about what we can learn about canon representations. OTV with John in the middle works, and I can also get behind an in-character Mary (so far as anyone has any idea about Mary's character) who fancies Sherlock, but I just Do Not See that Sherlock fancies her at all.
And that's when I realised what Mary does, in this context. I know a lot of people don't like her and found her chumminess with Sherlock in T6T to be straining belief (after all, she shot him!) -- but. BUT. Mary is Sherlock's _platonic_ (2nd)BFF. They are so similar, they understand each other, they like each other... they have no chemistry whatsoever. THIS is what a platonic friendship looks like.
And then contrast this with the dynamic between Sherlock and John. Could it be any clearer?? Mary shows us, makes us acknowledge, what we've been seeing all along. If we find Marylock more plausible than Johnlock, we desperately need to take off our het-goggles...
š didnāt need my heart anyway⦠š
Ouch. I think I just realised why this show appeals to me so much...
Part I: Chekhov, Absurdism, and the Meaning of The Final Problem

Ray Bradbury: vignette, one shot collection, dialogue light, description heavy, communication issues, creepy but beautiful, disturbing ending, sf and horror liberally mixed, my head is a distressing yet lyrical place, is it a hallucination or is it real?, itās probably real
CJ Cherryh: epic, got nine sequels planned out in my head, politics, aliens who act like actual aliens, plotty, violence, major character death, mindfuck, war, revolutions, family sucks sometimes, might do a vaguely happy ending if i decide i like the main character

Lois McMaster Bujold: space opera, wonāt make sense unless youāve read the earlier stories, pov disabled character, bamf women, war, mild gore, civil war aftermath, politics, class issues, complicated parent-child relationships, canāt believe uterine replicators arenāt a thing in sf wtf, one bisexual character, one trans man character, one nonbinary character, confronting ableism, mental health issues, major character death, guys i stg this is not a trek fic
it's funny because it's true

But where is āJohn, the soldierā? John just ducks. Sherlock and Irene acts, but not John. So where is the soldier?
John is a doctor here first of all. First of all he ducks and protects himself from possibly being hit as he is a bit in the way of the flying bullet. And then you can see that he immediately leans and crouches forward to check on the shot agent. He saw that the whole situation and the other left agents are under control by Sherlock and Irene and that the roles are contributed and so he does what he CAN do and contribute best next and acts as THE DOCTOR. No need for the soldier in this situation. ;)
This is probably my favourite scene in the whole series and yet Iāve never looked at what John is doing!
this is why it is important to rewatch the episodes multiple times. it is nearly impossible to catch and see all the details and small things (which sometimes are not so small after all and are clues that the creators leave us everywhere) from just one viewing and at once. ;) unless you are actually Sherlock himself. š as the saying goes: we see but we do not observe. š
boy, does that sound smartarse⦠šš I swear it is not meant in a bad way š you know what I mean š
Yup that is my excuse for rewatching for the Nth time :D
