Wonder is an interactive choose-your-own-adventure story of self-discovery and budding romance. You play as an average college freshman over the course of a couple of weeks.

This game was created with Twine, for my Fine Arts Research class. I handled both the writing and the coding.

I have always been preoccupied with stories relating women to the supernatural, to the monstrous, operating in both domestic and public spheres. This ignited my fascination for the Aswang, an umbrella term for the Filipino witch, viscera-sucker, vampire, ghoul, and weredog. A being that transcends childhood fear to the adult justification of the ostracisation and murder of seemingly innocent civilians. Thus, the project will combine scholarly articles, news reportage, and personal anecdotes regarding the persistence of Aswang lore in the 21st century, through the medium of podcast. An endeavor that seeks to explore the facts in the fiction, the hearsay.

We'll tackle the classifications of the Aswang, use weird high school metaphors, and joke about banana plants.

In this video essay, I talk about how the minimalist movement affected design trends during the 2010s and how it changed the trajectory of aesthetics. The possible reasons for this change are also discussed, as well as the downsides of minimalism when it comes to certain aspects of arts and design—particularly for book cover designs.

Action-Adventure Novel based on Disney villains and Joseph Campbell's "The Hero's Journey"

I have often been intrigued by the evolution of the Disney villain, from a one-dimensional antagonist to a more layered, more human entity. I wanted to revive the genuinely villainous villain of the classical Disney films, but I also wanted to impose changes in the type of prince-saving-princess storyline popular in those films. By employing Joseph Campbell's "The Hero's Journey" and defamiliarizing the concepts of hero and villain, I wanted to explore what it truly means to be good or evil.

World of Angelaria: An exercise in World Building By Juan Paolo Datu Map made using Inkarnate. Establishing your setting is the first step in writing a story. From the likes of Tolkien's Arda to Blizzard's Azeroth, to C.S Lewis' Narnia and many many others, the world you build the stage in which the story is set, and can set the expectations of your readers. This project was started by me as an exercise in world building. It is the culmination of different real world inspirations into a world of my own design. There are many things still left to be said, and many places left for me to explore. But for now, this is Angelaria as I know it to be.
