IVF - The Two Week Wait No One Talks About
If you are familiar with IVF (In-Vitro-Fertilization) you will hear about the Two Week Wait between the procedure and your first blood exam or as we call it your first Beta.Â
If you search the topic online, you will find many blogs and articles about recommendations and ideas of things to do during those 2 weeks.Â
After those 2 weeks have passed, you will take your first Beta. If the Beta is positive, you will need to go back to get a second Beta usually 2 days after, in which your HCG level should double to have a viable pregnancy.Â
Once your HCG level has doubled and your doctor says you don’t need any additional Betas your next step will be to schedule an Ultrasound in 2 weeks.Â
This is the Two Week Wait no one talks about! These two weeks are worse than the 2 weeks between your procedure and your first Beat. You are already pregnant but during these 2 weeks, you don’t know if you will end up with a viable pregnancy or with a chemical miscarriage.Â
In the Ultrasound appointment, the doctor will look for a heartbeat and a gestational sac. The Ultrasound appointment can either be a happy time by hearing your baby’s heartbeat or a nightmare because you didn’t hear a heartbeat.Â
