I'm rereading Methyl Nitrate Pineapples right now (I grew up on this fic... how strange to realize I've out-aged Sophie!)--and. THE BANTER. THE PACING, THE SCENE TRANSITIONS, THE SUBTLETIES OF SOPHIE'S PTSD, PENGUIN THE HYPERVENTILATING DINOSAUR... this fic is life-altering. I love it so much. Thank you for all that you've shared with the world over the years!
thank you for loving 🫶
idk if you've seen it or will, but victor frankenstein in guillermo del toro's "frankenstein" (2025) gave me sophie vibes. but i can also see her as the creature so the duality is very interesting
i have seen it! and well the story should've been perfect for del toro's sensibilities but i found it lacking compared to the emotionally devastating complexity of mary shelley's writing. in her book victor grew up surrounded by kind loving parents and siblings, yet became an arrogant, selfish, spoiled young man who took for granted all the wonderful privileges in his life. no traumatic childhood and abusive father to explain his flaws, victor simply was what he was: human. and he has a muuuuch more fascinating character arc in the book - being so ashamed that he's created a "monster" that he doesn't tell anyone until basically the very end! and then he stops making the creature's girlfriend because he considers her lack of agency and consent! the movie should've kept the creature hunting down victor's friends and family filled with the deepest loathing for humanity. stalking victor while victor himself is surrounded by loved ones while at the same time denying his own creation that connection. generational cinematic fumble from del toro (<- very shocked that i even wrote that)
i wanted to watch jacob elordi fall to his knees in broken desperation and say to oscar isaac, "Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous." and then when victor destroys the female creature, i wanted to watch jacob elordi growl, "Man, you shall repent of the injuries you inflict."
and the quote by lord byron at the end of frankenstein (2025) should've been a quote by mary shelley you know famously the original author of frankenstein (1818). guillermo what was that

more asks! sorry 😭 i feel like i arrived super late to the sophie party but i have Thoughts and Opinions!
I was thinking today about Sophie's connection to the number 13. Hexhead. The 13th Supernova. A primer number too, since she's into that. And ironically, a lucky number (in number theory, i know its famously known as an unlucky number).
But also, in tarot, 13 is the number associated with Death! Not that it means actual death, but it signifies transformation, change and endings. All three things Sophie happens to be surrounded with and embody at certain points. She's The Alchemist, heavily associated with the transformation of matter as a chemist. She transformed her own life by leaving the WG, and that decision brought change to many peoples lives. She brought about the ending of an age by meddling with Ace and Blackbeard.
And let's not forget her.. ehem... involvement with a certain surgeon of Death.
And I could keep going honestly, but i think the point is made. All this just to say i love love love your writing!
:3 one of the best things i've gained from writing fic is a steadfast trust that readers will be insightful and perceptive, they'll make connections based off their own interests and personal experiences, which might intersect with the author's experiences or might not. when i get letters like this i feel a renewed surge of faith. thanks for enjoying my writing 🤍🦦
Hii!
I was wondering, since in your sophieverse you've repeatedly built up an encounter between sophie and blackbeard, as well as written such an interesting dynamic between, what did you think/ how did it feel in manga when you reached the encounter between the blackbeard pirates and the heart pirates? Did it seem like the cards all played out in your favor? Did it force you to rethink how certain things will play out? Either way cant wait to find out if i ever get to read it, but i wanted to know your reaction haha.
it was honestly very funny, you can somewhat guess these things might happen in the future (law and teach both being d's, and foils to luffy) but i didn't expect their face-off to be so... traumatic (?) still, i enjoyed it a lot. our characters belong in situations. and if that situation is a pit of despair and suffering, so be it <3
laws!💙
may have binged through your sophie fics instead of doind work for uni but damn it was worth it. loved the characterization. subscribed to CBA so one day where i really need it I can get massively cheered up by an update like with all my other favorite fics seem to do (it's really magic)! also omg chapter 15 @&#&idjwl83883iwhe&@&#!!!
thanks for enjoying my writing, now get your uni work done and pass your classes and remember to take breaks and bask in sunlight 🤍
oh. uh. have we met before...?
Had to clean someone’s apartment complete with a pot of coffee that had molded over.
The spirit of Sophie possessed me, I wanted to eliminate poverty and get rid of that weird stuff growing on the ceiling.
comrade, you are so brave. sophie would be proud. the horrors persist but so does a faint glimmer of wealth redistribution (seen through a sparkling clean coffee pot) 🫡
The feminist pervert is a lonely but righteous path.
Tagging men? This is low even for you people.
Two things: One, you were a real one for making the John Silver/Teach parallels in MNP. Two, Sophie the ex-marine absolutely fits the archetype in the broader mecha genre of conflicted-yet-obsessive technician. Stuff those people into human-shaped weapons until they become human-shaped weapons queen, you can do no wrong
she would absolutely have that "hahaha nooo stay in the giant robot and let me tamper with your mind-body connection to the machine in search of evidence for a soul haha ur so sexy 🤍" going on
horny for mech pilots. horny for commanding officers. WHERE is the horny for r&d.
Reading that one bit where Sophie’s despairing about her relationship and all the ways she messed up and well:
There’s always a bigger romantic L to take.
You could be a dumbass and watching 500 episodes of one piece because a pretty coworker told you to. Despite her being a conservative evangelical who would probably stop talking to you if she knew you weren’t straight.
And start going to church with her because dimples make you unwise.
And now your Quaker one piece fan and STILL single.
And you don’t anymore.
So Sophie should feel better because there are specimens out there who have screwed up a lot more than her.
my dear that's not a romantic L, that's a missile dodged 😭🫶 this person would want to deport me and send you to conversion camp, who cares about her dimples 😭
stand your quaker ass up !!! STAND UP !
There should be an antibiotic resistant pathogens devils
That’s scary.
