There is always something about it that makes it so comforting in being within the water. The way how sounds became muffled, and everything feels so free and loose. It was almost like being in another world - a dream almost. For Mathias it is something a tad different. As cheesy as it sound, the water always felt like home for him. The feeling of belonging washes over him every time when he takes a dip within the academy’s pool, not quite homey but enough for comfort.
He couldn’t hear anything, and he was pleased about it - in fact, the only time silence washed over him was when he was swimming. He could feel the splash of the water against his raising arm, and the flurry of water being kicked by his feet. His movement was fluid, not excess, but well practice. Almost, just almost, it was like he was part of the water, a fish swimming along in it’s natural habitat. Another roll and he was off, swimming back to where he had started. The feeling of his lungs burning, screaming for air brought - as morbid as it can sound - some sense of aliveness within himself. Turning his head to the right, he took a quick breath before diving back into the water.
Blue, the water is so crystal blue - pretty - but not that one he quite liked. It was too clear, too transparent for his liking. He missed those icy seas that would wash up upon the coast of Denmark - the white, blue and black somehow mixing perfectly together. Instead of a heavy chlorine smell, it would be salty and fresh, with the taste of the cold breeze at the tip of his tongue. Once his finger had glazed at the feeling of tile, the Dane rises his head above the water, panting heavily at the laps he was doing for a good 2 hours.
Removing his goggles away, Mathias gave a small sigh. It still felt weird, like a feeling that didn’t feel just right. He carelessly throws his goggle in hand onto the side of the pool, pushing himself away from the ledge to only float on the calm waves of the pool. His own blue - ocean blue as many would comment on - studied the bright lights and tiles of the ceiling, as he let himself drift on, and on, with no real goal or purpose in mind. (Just like his own life.) It was relaxing, just him, silence and the soft sound of the water crashing against the ledge of the pool. But it wasn’t the intrusive and aggressive crash that he was used to, it was more smooth, calm and gentle. With another sigh, Mathias dive back down into the waters, maybe the water can protect him, from something, anything.
It was peaceful for a while, just the blond Dane, floating about occasionally in the pool. A sense of serenity filled the place, that is until the doors clicked open. Curious Mathias turned himself, wondering who it is that will be here, after all, so far it had only been him in the pool lately. He lazily swims over to the ledge, once secure, he runs a hand through his blond wet locks, pushing them back so he can see who is the newcomer of his solace.
When Francis received the list of all available clubs within the school it was difficult to decide which ones he wanted to invest his time in. There was an art club of course, which interested him for the sole reason of meeting more people interested in the trait and maybe pick up a few things here and there. He decided joining would only help him in his studies and the improvement of his skills. There were other clubs as well but he just wasn’t very interested in joining. He didn’t exactly needed to join a club in order to meet people and become a real social butterfly- he could easily manage that without having to go to club meet ups and what not. There was a cooking club that he looked into that seemed right up his alley but by second thought, he didn’t want to be doing things he had always been doing and end up being just like his parents. He was already into art like his father was, he didn’t want to also follow his partissair mother.
The choice was really difficult because he wasn’t planning on spending his college days not doing anything with his life and having a couple of nice hobbies on the side. When he stumbled upon swimming he knew this would be the perfect choice. He could get a little bit of exercise and most likely meet a couple of other people nice and in shape like him-- nothing wrong with wanting to hang out with good looking healthy people right? He went to visit the pool earlier this week to have a little look. It was empty back then and wondered if it was always this quiet and if there were many people in the club or if he was going to be the only person there, swimming all by himself. He looked down into the bright blue and the stillness of the water and it made him feel relaxed, content.
It reminded him of the bright waters of France whenever he went for small family vacations to the country and he used to swim in beautiful natural water springs. The beautiful movement of the water like a dance and the cool feeling on your skin. He knew right then and there that joining the swimming team would be a great idea.
This morning Francis gathered all of his stuff and left for the pool to dare his very first dive into the water. It was a quiet morning and Francis didn’t want to take the chance of going later that day and the pool being full of people. He knew group meet ups were every Tuesday morning and wondered if some of them would be around as well. perhaps it wouldn’t be all too crowded and this was a nice chance to meet some of them. When he arrived he immediately changed into his swimming trunks. It has been a while since he put these one but as he caught a quick glimpse of himself in the mirror he noticed he still pulled it off just as well. His slender body, the slight hint of a tan and broad shoulders almost indicated that France had been swimming professionally for while- if only that were the case. He laughed.
The pool was as quiet as the last time he went and expected nobody to be there-- that was until he heard some splashing of water as he saw a blond head of hair appear from the water. He knew the stranger had noticed him and saw him swimming to the side, leaning on the ledge. Francis almost felt guilty for breaking him out of his serene state and caught him in a private moment.
“Bonjour, sorry to intrude I thought the pool would be empty” He walked up to the other one, trying to work his hair into a bun at the same time and took a seat on the ledge to the other person. His feet feeling the coldness of the ocean blue water. “Did I miss the swim club meeting or are we just very early? I’m the new guy, as the kids would say” he laughed, offering a hand to the other “I’m Francis, enchanté“
