Facetime for android is a video calling application that is designed by Apple and exclusive to its devices. While you cannot place a video call to an Android smartphone using FaceTime, other third-party applications are supported by both interfaces. These applications allow you to complete video calls between the iPhone and Android smartphones, offering similar features to the FaceTime application.
Video Call from iPhone to Android Phone with Skype
One of the most popular apps for chatting and making audio or video calls is Skype. Skype is available on multiple platforms like iOS, Android, and Windows Phone -- and allows for cross-platform video calling, unlike FaceTime. An iPhone user can download the free app from the App Store, while an Android user can download it for free from Google Play. Sign in with an existing account or tap "Create Account" and fill out the form to get started. When you arrive on the Contacts page, tap the Add Friend icon and tap "Search Skype Directory" to type in your friend's username. Tap it, then tap "Video Call" to initialize the call.
FaceTime Features
Facetime for android is integrated into the iPhone 4 and requires no additional downloads. You can tap the FaceTime button during a normal phone call to invite the other person to a video chat, or call another Apple user from the FaceTime application itself. You can switch between the front and rear cameras to show your face or give someone a glimpse of your surroundings. The application requires Wi-Fi to function, and as of July 2011, does not work over 3G networks.
