Day 22:
CRAZY global event happening right now. Don't want to talk about it publicly. It's busy as hell today!
Day 21:
Day 21:
The Full Circle cafeteria Ingress portal that is closest to my desk was taken over the holiday. Not to worry though, by lunchtime someone on my team smashed it into smitherines! I took the portal. It doesn't have very high level resonators on it. But hopefully the level 8+ players will notice it and upgrade it. Very exciting for my first day back to work! In other news, I nearly puked at the gym from drinking water while I was all worked up. And the breakfast tastes weird today. Not sure why... It's like they switched from cooking stuff in coconut oil to bacon grease or something.
Day 20: This conference name always makes me laugh, but doesn't exactly seem to fit with the theme of most of the rest of the rooms. To be perfectly honest I'm not even sure if the themes are per zone or per building, but a lot of the others seem to mix a famous name with something else like "Gilmore girls gone wild" or "Jimmy Encarta"
Day 19:
I really love the conversations I get to have during my day-to-day! I meet the most interesting people and get to have the most unique conversations I've ever experienced! The perspectives are diverse, and it's really refreshing! Slow season is really at its slowest so people seem to have time to notice genuine interest and match it worth their own. I've got to hear insider stuff about VR and its future, what other social networks teens are populating and why, logistics and burn of accessories and electronics use on campus, future plans for future campuses, and so much more! We got to leave a bit early today because it was so slow. I got to see Santa Cruz in the daytime. Beautiful!
Day 18:
It was really quiet this morning, and I had a tiny bit of an eerie feeling while crossing under the road. Dad says that tunnel is freaky. I’ve never paid it any attention really, but there is always a security guard standing out there watching over. I feel really bad for him, because most people won’t show up on campus for at least another hour, who knows how long he’s already been standing there before I showed up, and it’s really cold outside. Still, it shows how much they care about us. They think of everything here.
Day 17:
So as not to lose this post/day completely, I’ll just insert this here ;))
I had a friend visit today. It’s the last day before official vacation, so this place is pretty much a ghost town. It’s been slow for the past week, but this is the pinnacle of slowness. My friend came at lunch, and we lagged on even getting out of the building because there was so much stuff to see. I had to return to my desk and we ate there, but after my coworker had his lunch, they let me go for the day. Cindi and I explored the campus until about dinner about dark. It was pretty awesome to show her all around. It really made me feel proud about this place and be thankful for this experience! It also showed me again, how big this place actually is and how long it will take to fully explore and experience it all. A bunch of the smaller food places were closed, but the main cafe’s were still rocking and of course the microkitchens are always full of goodness! I found a couple of Sun Microsystems leftovers too. Some random trashcans still in use as well as some wall placards. TIL: the building naming scheme pre-existed the current occupants here at Hogwarts.
Day 16:
Okay, so there are things to be excited about, and then there are things that it seems silly to be excited about. I think this is the latter. Never-the-less, I'm really excited about the fact that the five or so security guards that I have to pass by at all the choke points and badge reader secured doors I exit and enter the building through multiple times daily to smoke a cig, are finally starting to recognize and remember me. So instead of saying "Have a great day!" and "Good Morning :))" Now they say "See you soon!" and "Welcome back :))" I feel like a grinch to say this, but even though they seem really sincere and are nothing but pleasant and nice, and it's probably required for them to greet me... It still feels like canned empathy when you hear it all day every day. This of course means that next week, I'll get transferred to the desks on the other side of campus and it will all start over again. I won't see these guys for another month or two. :/
Day 16: Tried the photography thing again. It's now even more apparent that I'm not going to be able to replicate what my eyes are seeing...
Day 15:
The shuttle got me here a bit early this morning. It was very beautiful out. My building looked bitchin from the parking lot of East Campus across the street. Unfortunately I'm not as skilled at photography as computers so they came out all washed out. I wasn't expecting the aperture to stay open so long. I thought I was doing something wrong so I kept moving it from darkness to lightness and I think it confused the sensors or something. I kept getting half flashes as if the camera was trying to say "What the fuck, Chuck!?"
Day 1-infinity:
Day 14:
I always forget to talk about the bikes here. The campus is so big that I like to bike everywhere. There are TONS of bikes all over everywhere so wherever you are you can just jump on one and just leave it where you end up for someone else. There is a bike shop that maintains them all. They have this awesome Dynamo that powers the lights. When it gets dark they turn in automatically. They have girl and boy versions but they all look the same otherwise. Definitely one of my favorite things about hogwarts!
Day 13: This is a cool, very intricate model of the building I'm currently working in (minus the roof park)
Day 13:
All I'm hearing from every1 all day is STAR WARS‼️ Even lunch was Star Wars themed. Not sure why I'm not interested but I'm not...
Crowdsourced ideas for the next line of this story anyone?
Day 12:
Came across this wall/board today. There is a section you can’t see that has a little story exercise where everyone can add a line. The rule is that whatever letter the last word ends with has to be the first letter of the next word.
Did you get three things so they are prime?
Obviously, lol
