@thehypocritewith5names thanks for reminding me i have a chnt sydney design somewhere. and here’s some extra elevens/luminaries
I guess my DQ followers can have something as a treat 🤷♂️
I think a big part of the reason Pokopia is hitting so hard for so many people is that we have had an absolute glut of post apocalyptic media that take the "humans are the monsters/disease/problem" angle. Even the most well meaning solar-punk I can think of often have this undercurrent of 'humanity's nature is inherently short sighted and exploitive and they must constantly be kept in check to protect the environment' which slides very quickly into 'the world would be better off without humans in it to complicate and threaten things'.
But Pokopia fully does not do that. The world is lonely without humans and lesser for humanity's absence. So much of the game is about how Pokemon miss humans and are struggling to make sense of a world without us, how the ecosystem is just as hurt by our absence as any other species, and how the things we left behind, even in ruins and burned shells, are often beautiful and strange and helpful to the Pokemon who find them.
Pokemon have always been this allegory for the natural world- back to the original idea of the games inspired by children who caught bugs and kept ant farms- and thus the relationship between Pokemon and humans becomes this allegory for the relationship between nature and humans. And Pokopia looks you dead in the eye and says "the world would be poorer without humans, and if we all vanished tomorrow the echoes of who we are and the things we did would still ring out for eons uncountable. We would be missed and mourned and searched for and the wound of our absence would be deeply felt on this earth for the rest of its turning. The actions of a few greedy short sighted humans will never change that."
And that. That hits.
and if anyone’s wondering why i don’t post my art much here, it’s because most of it consists of hot trans dq men with their boobs out. incredibly sorry about that
pmd gates to infinity was still the saddest game i’ve played in my life and this title’s probably hard to beat. i can’t go into details rn cause im typing this all out on a rush, but compared to other games… it just felt real. yeah yeah rare vague post coming from me but just.. think about it yeah?
spike chunsoft listen to me. create a pokémon mystery dungeon dating sim and you will make a billion trillion dollars
I don't need friends, they disappoint me
So how about that one line, huh.
Despite everything.
what's your thoughts on Alef and Gwaelin's relationship?
OHH THATS A GOOD ONE!! I do like to think at first Gwaelin fell in love with the hero, the scion, etc it wasn’t really genuine. She didn’t see the real boy behind this. At least in every version of dq1 before the HD2D remake. From there, she would start to genuinely love Alef, just Alef himself and not just see him as the legendary hero, the Scion of Erdrick, especially if you bring her along. In DQ builders 1, she still seemed to thought about him, perhaps regretting that she wasn’t able to help him, and not be there for him.
Okay I need to ramble about these Taunie and Urbain real quick because I’m thinking about them oh my godddd
I feel like Taunie/Urbain, their biggest worry and fear, is being a terrible leader. They internalize their emotions as much as possible to appear constantly collected and available, filling that bottle more and more so when it eventually cracks it essentially explodes.
However, I could imagine them standing on the rooftop with someone else. Taunie/Urbain leans against the wall and spills the worries they have about their leadership. The thoughts they have that they think proves they aren’t a good leader. The other person shuffles awkwardly in place, freezing when they look to them for reassurance. Deep down, they know Taunie/Urbain can take it. But they still aren’t sure how to tell them that some of their worries are, in fact, true.
That they could be better. That they have had many failures. That those failures make them a leader Team MZ can’t really rely on.
Taunie/Urbain’s deep want to help others, so deep it’s basically a need, makes them an incredibly kind person. But as my friend said, it’s so selfless that it circles back around to appearing selfish. When they’re busy helping other people, it leaves them looking unavailable and unreliable to the people who actually need them. For example, during the Rust Syndicate plot, where they’re absent for much of it because they’re busy helping Lumiose citizens and Quasartico.
It mistakenly comes off as selfish and egotistical when they defend their ability to battle and lead, because everything they do is because they want to help everyone. But they can’t help everyone. It’s just not possible, and it just puts distance between they and the people they actually need to be there for.
They are so humanely flawed and I love them so much ughhhh
