LEWIS TAN as Cole Young in Mortal Kombat (2021) dir. Simon McQuoid
Sleep was restless. It was filled with dreams, and horrors, and the flash of silver scales. A large dragon, larger than anything he'd ever seen before, with eyes that were as white as pale fire. Silence that reverberated in his chest, so quiet – that every nightmare was an endless loop of the death he was so close to. The faces filtered through, but the ending was always the same. He stood with the old god, the Blight wrapping around him as an old friend, and the more and more he tried to fight it, the more he failed. He woke with the cool breeze of a spot beside him, empty, and the quietness of the room at Caer Glas only broken by the crackling of embers on the fire. Tianyou spoke, and the Legionnaire finally opened his eyes. He rubbed at his jaw, sitting up and letting the covers pool around his waist. "Tianyou...bed get too warm?"
As per usual, Riandur was...well, himself. It was what he had come to expect given how long they had known each other now. Reading the room certainly wasn't in the legionnaire's repertoire. And the other was good at quite a lot of things. Not that Tianyou would ever admit to as much. The last thing he needed was for Riandur to think he was complimenting him. Nevertheless, that wasn't the reason he had been sitting here for so long. It was mostly concern. Maybe things were okay. Maybe they weren't. Either way, it was something they needed to actually talk about. "Yeah, you kind of drape yourself all over me and you're hairy as fuck so it feels like an owlbear is suffocating me." It wasn't a false statement. Riandur was indeed very warm to sleep next to. "How are you feeling?"

Keeping one eye open around Riandur was becoming more and more stressful as time went on. The legionnaire was more infatuated with death than ever these days and Tianyou was becoming increasingly more concerned. Even now, as the other slept, he was sat there staring. It would probably be weird to watch someone sleep otherwise, but not many people were in the same boat as them. There were two ways any of this could end up. Either Riandur tried to kill him without even realizing or…well, the other option included him defending himself. No matter how he looked at it, he didn’t like either option. He remembered telling the other that he wouldn’t leave. Not back then. Now though? He wasn’t so sure. His father was still hanging on, but when he finally succumbed? Tianyou would have to take his rightful place. Chin resting on his hand, he leaned forward slightly and then whispered. “Riandur…” He certainly didn’t want to startle the silver elvhen, but he figured they needed to talk if he was having all of these thoughts.

It had felt like quite some time since he had seen Ikaros. To be honest, it seemed like his best friend was always missing in action. Definitely not of his own volition though. If Ikaros had been disappearing on purpose, then it wouldn't feel like someone was squeezing his heart in his chest every single time the prince was gone. To be honest, he wasn't even sure if the other was going to come back to him. First, he had thought he lost him in the eluvian. Then, he had thought he lost him with the Kossith. Every way he turned, it felt like they weren't supposed to be around each other. Or maybe the universe was just playing some sick joke on him. His father. Ikaros. Abelas after going through that damn eluvian. Riandur because...he was Riandur, legionnaire and attached to death like they were married. He didn't want to lose any of them. So, when he saw Ikaros, he couldn't do anything but wrap his arms around the other. His words came out whispered. "You can't keep doing this to me. I don't think my heart can take it." He was being dramatic, but it was the truth.

Riandur had tried his best to soothe Tianyou through their bond. It wasn't his best trait, the Elvhen knew he was a bit uncouth, dedicated to the Legion, and all around slightly irresponsible. But he'd never do anything to cause his friends pain, or Tianyou for that matter. Things had been getting more difficult, however. Riandur had always felt the push and pulse from the ring; blood stained hands in his dreams that felt more like the present than the memories he thought they were. Still, he went easily when Tianyou lifted his hand, "The ring," he said plainly, though he wouldn't lie even if he hadn't known what to say. "It won't come off. I told you what they're from, who they're from." He had always had a connection to the dead, and in his dreams, he stood at the forefront of an entire army – made up of the dead. "This is...a new development."
The ring. The grey hand. There was always a lot going on with Riandur, but he couldn’t say that he hadn’t signed up for this. They were tethered together and they would be for quite some time. Whatever the legionnaire dreamed, it was in Tianyou’s head as well. Everything the other thought or felt seemed to just make a beeline to his head. If he were smarter, he probably would have chosen someone that wasn’t so surrounded by death. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it seemed that was not the case for the high elvhen. He wouldn’t have chosen any different if he had to choose again though. Dropping the other’s hand, he looked Riandur in the eyes as he spoke. His brows furrowed because he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to think. He wasn’t sure how to even help when he wanted to so badly. Eventually, his gaze fell to the floor between them. “I don’t want to lose you again, Riandur.” It was the most sentiment he would give the other. Tianyou had become used to not letting Riandur know how much he did indeed love him because that just wasn’t who they were. He could say it, but even now he wasn’t going to start listing off the reasons why.

"You not going to drink that?" Riandur had his arm slung around Tianyou's neck and shoulders, holding the Elvhen a bit closer as the chaos around them ensued. This was definitely the most relaxed he'd been in a while, and Tianyou's presence was the only part that truly mattered to him. He knew the other had to go back to Avalon, had been called back for a while, and while Rian was fine in the Keep, it was difficult to feel the other's emotions from so far away. Tianyou was quite emotional. "You seem upset."
"I will when I'm good and ready." Upset didn't quite cover what he was feeling right now. There were the usual thoughts about his father getting worse by the day, but now he had to add Riandur's problems on top of that. He wasn't sure if the legionnaire was just ignoring the problem or just didn't care, but Tianyou was hyperaware of the now dead hand that the other was sporting. Then, of course, there were the nightmares that seemed to be plaguing him about some crazy shit. It wasn't like Riandur wasn't a killer though anyway. That was why he was in the position he was in now anyway. Nevertheless, he gripped the legionnaire's right arm at the elbow and lifted up his hand with a sigh. "What's this about?"
