          it is likely unintentional          the lipstick left staining his cheek          she knows  .  it is also an understood reality that his outings are that of an esteemed bachelor to most of the city  ;;  idle banter  &&  flirtations are not only expected but in some ways  required  .  she further knows better than to think anything personal of it  ,  but she cannot help a mischievous whim to use it as  pretense  .     ¨  you have been quite busy  , ¨  she remarks when she saunters up to him  ,  rubbing the waxy residue off of his face with her thumb  .  when he leans down to greet her with a kiss her she turns her face so he just barely can’t reach her lips  &&  moves instead to start trailing kisses along his jaw  &&  neck .  she can smell the city  &&  its festivities on him  ,  masking the usual coffee  &&  copper  (  that she has learned to prefer  ,  if she is honest with herself  )  with alcohol  &&  perfume  .         &&  when she has lulled him properly into a false sense of security  ,  toothiana nips at his skin  ,  taking it between her teeth  &&  sucking the spot with enough force that a mark is guaranteed to be forming already  .  she is polite enough not to break skin  this time  around  ,  but the bruise which forms is bound to be sensitive for some time  .

    ¨  i believe i have earned the right to be  territorial  ,  ¨  she says between doing it again  &&  again  ,  mercilessly  .  ¨  would you not say so  ?  ¨

           she isn’t certain how it happened  ;;  isn’t sure she wants to know really ,  but  somehow  she has returned to find both valrún  &&  the faerie meant to be watching him covered in the most  glorious  messes of paint ever managed under her roof  .  perhaps this is what ought to have been expected when she suggested it as an option for his assistance to her work  :  that somehow  ,  some way  ,  it would not go as smoothly as it was meant to  . if the look on her faerie’s face is anything to go by  ,  it was as much their fault as  valrún’s  ,  but regardless what’s done is done now  . 

    ¨   perhaps rather than painting memory boxes i should be asking you to mix the paints themselves  .  you seem to have quite the affinity for it already  , ¨ she muses  ,  smile wry .            toothiana sighs  ,  although her expression is telling of fond  bemusement  more than anything else  .  she runs her thumb over the young man’s cheek  ,  smearing a bit of blue paint in the process  &&  draws his head close so that she can place a gentle kiss on top of it  .
