born and raised in south korea now works as a pastry chef/baker for camp zarafa. she discovered this place years ago when she was going through something. an affair she never wanted to be a part of, nor had any knowledge of. her first love broke her heart and her trust. it turns out, she was just a side chick of the person who she thought she loves. played with her feelings for awhile until she catches him with the original. since then, she ghosted him and stops responding to all his calls and messages and flew to camp zarafa to heal. and never did she bother them again.
the island truly is a magical place. for the most part, her stay was really relaxing and that helped her slowly move on. then the next, she fell in love with the island and its culture. since then, she decided to stay as a local for camp zarafa who helps other fellow islanders heal. thankfully, they gave her a spot as a baker / pastry chef so she doesn't only help other heartbrokoen islanders, but she also gets paid to make delicious pastries for everyone.

kaia has 2 other siblings and she’s the middle child that’s why the attention’s not always on her and mostly overlooked.
since she’s ignored in her household, kaia finds herself closest to her grandmother. her grandmother’s also the one who taught her how to bake.
before moving to camp zarafa, kaia owns a bakery in seoul called cuppy cakes.
she had no idea that her first love’s just using her to cheat on their girlfriend.
kaia found knitting so relaxing during her stay as a guest in camp zarafa and she’s been doing it ever since, even to the point that she’s made outfits out of it. she soon turned it into a side business and started selling it to locals.
flustered at being caught, he scrambled for an excuse to save face. “ sorry,” he pressed, immediately averting his gaze in an attempts to look interested at anything than the confectionary between her hands. “ i was reading this book and the, uh, smell had me moving before i could even think. “ he stood, rather uselessly, off to the side as he observed her expert movements.
“ what flavor is it? i’ve seen a couple episodes of cake boss, you know, so i’m technically an expert. “
at this point , she loses focus on the cake she’s doing to settle her gaze on the stranger . for a long time of working here , this is her first time seeing such a face so she assumes , he might be a guest . “ i can’t blame you for that one . this smells really good right now . to be completely honest with you though , this smell is new to me too . ” grinning widely , she continues to finish off the layer of the cake by spreading the cake crumbs all around it .
“ an expert huh ? okay then mister cake boss expert , what do you call this cake that’s completely purple in color and has a cream cheese filling in it ? ”
“hey i have a great idea if you’re game.” she cracks a coquettish grin, the hint of mischief strong in her tone. but her idea isn’t anything volatile or remotely dangerous. “we might as well get to know each other, right? so let’s do a cultural exchange. tell me where you’re from and what’s… i don’t know a specialty food from that region.”
lips already stretched out wide from grinning at her suggestion . kaia really likes the sound of that considering she can’t stop talking about her hometown whenever she misses it from time to time or feels homesick . “ um , okay ! i don’t know how this game really goes but i guess i’ll start from what you suggested . i’m from seoul , south korea and the specialty food , we have lots of that . most of it are spicy . but everyone’s favorite is our kimchi . ”
☁️ there’s an ethereal quality to kaia’s movements ; and dottie’s convinced that the girl is an angel. how else could the sight of something as mundane as kaia icing a cake fill dottie’s soul with the warmth of a midsummer’s day ?
the soft lilt of kaia’s words draw the girl out of her daydreams. “ h-huh ? me ? just standing here ? watching you ? like a creep ? —— nup, no way ! that’s libel, i’ll sue ! ” dottie quips, nose scrunching gently in a slightly nervous force of habit as she wanders a little closer ; settling herself down on the stool across from kaia with a laugh as warm as honey. “ it smells heavenly in here —— what’re you making ? ”
dark hues settle on perfecting the cake as if her life depends on it . somehow , she successfully smothers the white icing around the cake . although not perfect , it’s enough to let the third layer stick . which is just a bunch of cake crumbs she blended earlier .
soft gaze wanders towards the other baker with plump lips flashing her a gentle smile , giggling afterwards only because she finds her response cute and hilarious . “ honest to god ? you weren’t watching ? ” kaia teases , carefully patting the purple cake crumbs on the icing so that there’ll be less mess to clean up right after . “ it’s an ube cake ! zara asked me to make it for everyone . ” she chuckles nervously , making sure that she’s doing the exact same thing the woman on her phone is doing . “ it’s my first time making it and i don’t know what it tastes like or if it tastes like just what they’re expecting . ”
unsure of whether or not to accept the invitation, lola stays frozen to her spot across the room, fingers poised on picking at her bottom lip : an anxious habit she had accustomed herself to. “ what are you making ? ” she instead offers, pulling her legs up onto the stool underneath her .
this is one of her favorite parts in baking : having an audience . kaia loves showing off how talented she is in this field , getting used to the culture here and figuring out which flavor the local wants . “ i’m making ube cake with cream cheese . it’s basically a purple yam that locals seems to love here . the camp master asked me to make one for everyone . ”
"oh….well i wasn’t really staring at you…” salem chuckled nervously moving over to sit on the stool by the counter as she looks down at the cake a soft smile tugging on the corners of her lips “that cake looks amazing actually what flavor is it?”
kaia stops smothering the cream all over the base of her cake to look over at the female who walked in on her . plump lips curl up into a gentle smile , her gaze settling back on the cake . “ so you’re staring at the cake then . ” giggling , she continue to decorating it . “ it’s mango flavor . i know for sure you’ll love this for desert later on . ”
“ i can feel your eyes on me . so instead of just standing there , why don’t you join me here ? ” voice mumbles softly , though loud enough for the other to hear whilst her gaze focuses on smearing the cream on the cake she just baked .
