Hello nonblack reader of this post, I think you ought to share this one so that you and your peers can actively remind yourselves 1) of how your Black peers feel when you tolerate antiblack racism in your art spaces for entertainment and 2) that we notice it, but don't believe it is secure around enough of you to bring it up 🙏🏾

shortening “androgynous” to “andro” literally makes zero sense because “andro” is the Greek root for “man,” and the point of being androgynous is to look neither like a man nor a woman—or look like both at the same time.

the word “androgynous” is a combination of the Greek root “andro,” meaning “man,” and the Latin root “gyn,” meaning “woman.” it literally means “looks like both a man and a woman.” it would make zero sense to limit it to one of the roots, because then you’re erasing the entire point of the word “androgynous.”

if you were to shorten “androgynous,” the only way that would make sense is “androgyn,” which at that point, just say the whole word 😭
