Reminder on the anniversary of the 19th amendment that not ALL women gained the right to vote 100 years ago.
Asian American women couldn’t vote until 1952.
Native American women couldn’t vote in EVERY state until 1962.
Black women couldn’t vote until 1965.
Got the good spot 🥰

Police officers shoot and kill Kid in Los Angeles: ‘He ran because he was scared’
Andrew Heney, owner of the Freeway autoshop, told a local CBS affiliate: “We had a security guard that was out front, because we had just had certain issues with people tagging and stuff like that.”
“And then the police came up, and they pulled their guns on him and he ran because he was scared, and they shot and killed him. He’s got a clean background and everything. There’s no reason.”
The sheriff’s department are claiming Andres Gyuardado had a gun but the autoshop owner and witness to the shooting says that’s absolutely not true he never carried a weapon and didn’t that night.
What’s even worse is that right after the shooting, the Store owner said the cops immediately destroyed all the surrounding security cameras, broke into the store, stole his DVR with the recordings, and then created an illegal warrant after doing all this.
The shop owner also states he never called the police and doesn’t understand because “There was no reason for them to be there.”

Okay Bernie stans.
I need you all to prepare yourselves to vote for Biden in November.
I’m not happy about it either. I wanted Elizabeth Warren to destroy Trump on the debate floor. I wanted to watch her shatter the glass ceiling. I wanted student loan forgiveness, Medicare for All, and refugee and immigrant protections.
But I’m not going to get that. So I am going all in for Biden.
This can no longer be a matter of “well if I don’t get my way THEN I’M NOT VOTING”. I’d hoped you all learned your lessons four years ago, but from what I’ve seen on social media, that’s not been the case. Biden is not ideal but he is better than the alternative. He is a Democrat who will continue Obama’s legacy. And you have a shot in hell of getting progressive movements like Medicare for All under a blue majority Congress; we do not have that under Trump.
Biden is more willing to listen to the progressive factions of the Democrat party than Trump is. We will get shit done under him.
We cannot survive a second term of Trump. I need you all to hold your noses, put on your big girl pants, and deal with it. Prepare to vote for Biden.
Also, I’ve reviewed most of his plans and they are good. No, they are not as good as Warren’s plans. But he commits to LGBTQ+ protections, repealing the transgender in the military ban, and his refugee/immigration protections are way better than I expected (he actually has some culpability to the deportations under the Obama administration).
He is a good choice, guys. Maybe not the best. But he will get us to where we need to be and is a fucking return to SANITY in the government, which we badly fucking need.
Two, TWO Supreme Court justices are on the table for the next president, plus all the other federal judges McConnell has been stacking benches with the past three years. That’s Roe v. Wade, and a whole lot else, for the foreseeable future.
The reality is that we live in a two party system and while I do not want Biden, I am capable of recognizing nuance and shades of gray. If it comes down to Biden, as it very likely may he will not do as much damage as four more years of Trump, and that is an ethical imperative.
This is also why we all MUST vote down-ticket as well.
Biden’s win allows RBG and Stephen Breyer to retire.
Think about that.
Not voting isn’t a protest. It’s a surrender. If we want change, real change, then we have to drag our country to the left. One. Election. At. A time. It’s not an all-or-nothing scenario. So if it comes down to it, vote for Biden. Get on the bus headed away from fascism and the alt-right. If that bus isn’t heading directly to where we want to go, then we ride it until we have a chance to get on a different bus. Not voting is NOT an option.
I think this is all the more important to emphasize in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder. Here’s Biden attending a protest in Wilmington, DE over the weekend and meeting with black church leaders to discuss responses to the protests
And here’s the White House going dark after protests breakout in front
register to vote, educate yourself, then turn in your fucking ballots like your life depends on it
NOT VOTING IS NOT A PROTEST. IT IS A SURRENDER.
for the love of god PLEASE vote for Biden even if you think he sucks because you know what sucks way worse? LITERAL FASCISM
Voting cannot be the bulk of our efforts, but it sure as hell should be part of them. It’s especially important to flip the Senate. Mitch is pocket-vetoing every half-decent thing in the Senate.
I don’t usually post political stuff on here but I feel like this is important.
It is your CIVIC DUTY to vote and make sure that the country doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Yes you. The one reading this. IT IS YOUR DUTY.
I know this is a clothespin vote (this is my first election, and it really sucks that I hate both candidates) but if you don’t go out there and vote this coming November, I don’t want to hear any bitching and moaning when Trump wins and Roe v Wade or some other essential human right is taken away.
YOU CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT A POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT THAT YOUR INACTION HELPED TO CREATE.
HEY IF YOURE IN THE US. CONGRESS IS TRYING TO END ENCRYPTION SO THEY CAN POSSIBLY LIMIT OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH UNDER "FOR THE CHILDREN" ITS BEEN AT THE START OF THE PANDEMIC AND NOW AT THE SENATE, CALL YR REPS AND TELL THEM YOUR AGAINST THE EARN IT BILL. TELL THEM ITS THE END OF FREE SPEECH.

“not all cops”
I work in a non-restraint facility for special needs kids (21 and under) with extreme behavioral issues. I’m talking real violent stuff. Sixteen and twenty-one year old boys who can (and do) home-run swing desks at your head.
As a non-restraint facility, we are trained to respond to these outbursts in the most non-threatening, non-confrontational way possible, while still protecting both the bystanders and the person currently attacking us.
We are monitored every second of our shift to make sure the safety and dignity of our clients is maintained, especially–and just let me emphasize this–the safety and dignity of the person attempting to hurt us. Their right to be treated fairly and with empathy is not forfeit just because their brain chemistry fucked them up today.
We have to be calm, regardless.
We have to be gentle, regardless.
We can never respond with any kind of force, ever.
Those rules apply to all the staff, all the time, no matter what.
So when I hear bullshit about how somebody “reached for their waistband” or they were “resisting,” when I hear yet another police officer got off because the situation was “scary” or he “feared for his safety” or whatever the fuck, I lose my shit.
You wanna talk about how you were frightened for your safety, walking up to someone in the middle of a psychotic episode? Yeah, well, I’ve been there. Pretty regular–probably twice a week, at least–no gun, no taser, with guidelines that state I cannot even use my fucking thumb because that’s considered “grabbing” and therefore a “restraint.”
And you know what? I’ve walked away from every one of those. I haven’t died. I’ve never even been seriously injured. We defused the situation in ways that didn’t involving riddling the other participant with bullets and at the end of the day, everyone went home. Go fucking figure.
And yet–and fucking yet–I keep hearing “not all cops.”
“Not all cops” are bad. “Not all cops” shoot innocent people .3 seconds after rolling up on the scene. “Not all cops” are racist fuckbags, misusing power for a personal joyride. “Not all cops” rape people at gunpoint (and get off scott-fucking-free).
Yet, at my place of employment, somehow everyone is calm in a crisis. Somehow everyone responds to violence with non-violence. Somehow everyone is always able to act like a goddamn compassionate human-being in the middle of the worst kind of street fight–
but you’re telling me that cops, people paid to protect, can’t all do what I do?
You’re telling me that cops, trained to respond to crises, can’t all respond to the same crises, with the same skill, that I do?
And you’re telling me that cops have to stick together in the face of these “potentially false” accusations. That cops have to support each other, no matter what, because their job is dangerous or whatever. That yeah, some cops, but ~actually, sweetie, not all cops~
Fuck that noise. My job is dangerous, too. But you better believe that if anyone sees a member of our staff breaking regulation, their ass gets reported immediately. That person loses their clearances; they can no longer be hired in the field, anywhere. There’s no moving to another district. There’s no finding another location. We make it stop.
So until every cop is cleaning house, until every cop stops this strategically blind bullshit, until every cop refuses to stand by and watch the rampant abuse and corruption inherent in this system, until all the bad cops are weeded out and unemployable–
Until that moment, then yeah, all cops.
I wrote this in 2015. Five years ago, I thought we’d have made some sweeping changes by now.
Alright. Here we go. This fucking post again. Most people commenting on this are great, but some of ya’ll make me tired to my soul.
1. Is this post intended to galvanize through hyperbole?
Yes.
2. Does that make the situation it describes less true?
No.
3. “But you work in a controlled environment! Cops don’t know what they’re walking into!”
This is true. I agree, I was comparing apples to oranges, but at the end of the day, apples and oranges are both still fruit.
“Innocent until proven guilty” is a thing. Cops do not get to be firing squads because it’s easier/they’re frightened/the other person was probably guilty anyway/maybe the person was secretly asking for it.
Guns are a last resort. Meaning, you actually have to work your way through the other options first. “Gun” cannot be the solution to every problem. Here, I’ll even make you a cheat sheet.
Things “GUN” is a solution for:
Life-threatening danger to self or others
Defense of personal property
Things “GUN” is NOT a solution for:
Selling untaxed cigarettes
Cooking outside
Playing in the park
Running away, unarmed.
There’s like 500 more but you’re smart, you get the idea.
4a. “Hope those unarmed cops you want can talk down all the mass shooters!”
&
4b. “LOL because criminals aren’t going to have guns.”
It worries me that to you “maybe don’t shoot anyone within .3 seconds of rolling up on the scene” and “maybe let’s not have cops raping people at gunpoint” means “GuEsS wE CaN’T hAvE AnY GuNS ThEN!11!”
Are you honestly so irresponsible a gun owner that those are the same to you?
It is possible to carry a gun and not fire it.
It is possible to carry a gun and fire it appropriately.
It is NOT appropriate to fire a gun or threaten to fire a gun at everyone who doesn’t show you what you deem is the proper amount of respect. It is also not appropriate to walk into a random house and kill whoever you see. You know, in case maybe that was something you were confused about.
5. “But I’M a cop and I’M not bad!”
Cool. Then this will be easy for you.
Call out abusers in your work place. If your union protects abusers and continues to place them in a position of power over others, work with other “not bad” cops to dismantle your union.
Here’s the thing the “not all cops” people don’t want to admit–positions of power attract those who desire power over people.
So unfortunately, yes, your field is a favorite of bullies and abusers. Bullies and abusers find the idea of a job where they’re given absolute power and authority over others very attractive. You are going to have bad actors sneak in.
Are there also some police who truly want to do their best and protect people? Of course! But wanting to do good isn’t good enough. If you swear to protect and serve, then you don’t get to pick and choose who that applies to. You have to protect and serve everyone in your community when you’re on duty, even if the person you have to protect people from ends up being one of your coworkers.
It’s ugly. It’s hard. It sucks. Doesn’t matter. You still gotta.
You can’t look away from the misdeeds of your friends and call yourself honest.
Just… do better.
black lives matter. unfollow me if you disagree
