Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Hiya! Any tips on how to get started writing actual w/w smut vs lite petting or vague camera cuts?? Do you plan it out in your head or does it just flow naturally as you write?

hey! honestly it’s kinda natural, however it takes a lot of practice. like my career is stem-based, I’m by no means a practiced writer lol. I (personally) think I’ve grown a lot since the first fic I posted — and even that was written a whole year before I actually posted it.

to answer the other part of your question, sometimes I have a plan, sometimes I don’t! most of the time, I have a very specific scene or scenario that I’ve imagined, and then just start writing. that scene might only be a couple hundred words and then I spend time filling in the rest.

I won’t lie, when I wrote smut for the first time, I was a little embarrassed. like this is stuff I normally keep to myself, in my head. I think I’ve just learned to get over it. I’m not even phased anymore, and most of the comments I receive are positive so it’s encouraging.

my advise to you on how to get started is to literally just write without thinking about how others might judge you (or how you might judge yourself). write a rough draft that might be really really rough, and see where it takes you. you’ll get to the point where you can do a vague camera cut, but just keep writing.
